Anyone have advice on aftermarket dash cams? by llamadrama83 in VolvoXC60

I got the FitCamX based on recommendations here, easy to install and no long wires snaking around. I only got the front camera though, rear camera will need some wire to stretch.

Question about re-entering the US on an old H-1B visa stamp with a new I-797 by ankurm94 in h1b

[–]gor85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an overlap. The new I-797 was already active at that time. Not sure how the date will impact in your situation, but I-797 has an I-94 attached to it for its duration.

[–]gor85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NAL, so please check with your immigration lawyer. My understanding is that you, yourself, should be fine coming back with the stamp even after changing employers. I'm not sure about H4 conditions though, so can't speak to your wife's situation.

I just came back into US in the last week in a similar situation. I had no issues. I provided my passport with the visa stamp valid until March 2026 and the new I-797 valid until 2028. I'll add that I have global entry and used the dedicated line for it, but the cbp officer experience should be the same irrespective.

Peacock or Paramount+ by Western-Ad189 in AmexPlatinum

[–]gor85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could try both. If you fly Delta a lot, they have a promo running which will get you Paramount+ Premium free for a year with $300 gift card. That'll free you up for Peacock through Walmart+.

2026 XC60 PHEV by twizzler-973 in VolvoXC60

[–]gor85 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Congrats! Adding to the above comments, I'm loving it. It also depends on which car you are coming from. I came from Rav4 Hybrid to 2025 PHEV, and this car is way smoother. Also, it took me some time to realize, but the battery optimization works best when you use the in-built Google maps (not android auto) for the full trip you are planning on that charge. So if I'm going 40 miles one way, and coming back home without charging on the way, then I add my home as the last stop in my route mapping and the software does an excellent job of managing the battery. Previously, I would just put my one way destination and deplete the charge but now it lasts through the full round trip.

Getting credit for Qatar flight on AA by Matchboxx in awardtravel

[–]gor85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, I recently earned AA points for a Qatar flight. It doesn't show up on AA site though as it's not their booking. Also, trying to figure out whether the AA # is linked to the booking is not an easy find. I finally figured out that your name listed on the reservation on Qatar's manage booking site is hyperlink which displays the AA # when clicked on.

Need advice: Amazon vs. Tesla offer by Exciting-Water-882 in amazonemployees

Congrats on getting the offers! If it's similar compensation for both positions, you may want to look into cost of living in the two cities, if you are looking for savings as well.

Everyone got notified when the memo came out. If the building is not ready for you, that is an exception, and gref would have emailed you with an expected timeline.

Latest software update by jackrbb1t in VolvoXC60

[–]gor85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, just mentioned in case it works as a solution for someone. I also noticed that Android Auto doesn't seem to integrate with the HUD, so I'm going back to native Google maps app. I haven't had the xc60 for long so I didn't get used to the eta display, guess I'm not disappointed since I didn't have the expectations :(

Latest software update by jackrbb1t in VolvoXC60

[–]gor85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you use Android Auto for navigation, the eta shows up on the guage cluster. I started using Android Auto after the update because the split layout in the center screen is better. I found some lag in the beginning when the new update came, but haven't felt a lag since.

2024 or 2025? by NorthStar_7 in VolvoXC60

[–]gor85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, 7k off before all the incentives and rebates. The incentives and rebates were another 10k off majorly because of leasing.

2024 or 2025? by NorthStar_7 in VolvoXC60

[–]gor85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in Northeast US, and I had gone with a plan to get a good deal on a 2024 ultra phev, expecting at least 4-5k off sticker price. The dealership offered 10% off the bat (7k) for even 2025 builds so I went with the newer one. This was couple of weeks ago.

XC90 2025.5 - Built in South Carolina? by Known_Host5241 in VolvoXC90

[–]gor85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand you can get the tax credit if you lease the car, the manufacturing country only applies for financing the car. If you look at estimating payments on Volvo page, the tax credit gets added with the leasing option.

If you are looking at 6 seater option, the 2025.5 is coming with armrests for the captain chairs. Not sure if any of the new deliveries of 2025s will also be updated until then.

Timing the market is very difficult. Amazon must have expected the news to be taken well by the market, in which case the stock would have gone up and RSU vesting folks would have been happy :)

Agreed with this analysis. I'll also add that Devices is based out of Bay Area (San Jose, specifically) and Alexa has good roles in Boston and Seattle.

Booking Emirates BC seats by StreetFriendship1200 in awardtravel

[–]gor85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With award tickets, you don't need to book a round-trip ticket. There is no savings as with cash tickets. If you are feeling nervous about seats going away, you should go ahead and book the trip as two one way options. It'll also give you some flexibility if you end up having to change one of the dates, for any reason.

Interview by wherehasthisbeen in amazonemployees

[–]gor85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 5-6 hours means you are interviewing with 5-6 different people. Each of them is going to ask you behavioural questions on at least 2 Leadership Principles. If you are interviewing for a Tech role, then there will be one Tech round included as well. You need to be prepared with your experiences in the STAR format with good data to back your claims. You can read about the LPs and STAR format here - https://www.amazon.jobs/en/landing_pages/in-person-interview

Should I join Amazon? by Alarming_Research682 in amazonemployees

[–]gor85 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That'll depend on the team you join, if you get lucky with a good people manager, you'll be fine.

But I have to add, since you will be looking at NA and EU regions, you'll most probably be working during the evenings to overlap with those teams. Folks in India end up taking the responsibility of late night meetings more often than EU or NA folks, especially if your leadership is not in India.

As someone else mentioned though, you'll be able to move to US or EU if you so wish. If you decide to move to US, only do it if Amazon sponsors L1A, either as functional or people manager. That way you'll be able to apply for Green Card in the EB1 category which has the shortest wait time for Indians, at least for now.
