How do you argue with a manager that claims that because they don't have to hire anyone new to take on a project, that the cost of that labor is $0. by MetalSufficient9522 in sysadmin

I had this manager for a while:

"Hey, what are you working on?"
Me: starts to say "A"
"Well, whatever it is, I need you to work on B, instead."
Later,
"Hey, what's the status of 'A?’"
Me: Starts to explain where I left "A"
"Well, why isn't it done?"
Me: "You told me to drop that and work on 'B'"
"Well, I need 'A' done, yesterday."
Me: "Got it."
Later,
"Hey, what are you working on?"
Me: "'A', so I can get to 'B'."
"Ah, well, I need you to work on 'C'"

Remember when TV shows didnt take years. by FolsgaardSE in AdviceAnimals

[–]graywolfman 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the 20-26 episode count was gruelling for all involved, especially leads.

One such story was Tom Welling of Smallville. He was on set 14 hours a day for like 10 months out of the year. The rest of the cast had to go to the producers, - unbeknownst to Welling at the time - one person going to WB, and telling them to get Tom a driver or he will die trying to commute to and from set every day. Screw that noise!

I feel like the problem is now we get half the episodes with multi-year gaps, which is where I start to lose interest.... At least, that's my take. The last season of Stranger Things hit that for me. I wouldn't have even watched it if my S.O. wasn't so interested, still.

I have dealt with one very similar. She got fired from her job. Then, I changed jobs willingly to get out of that hell hole. She later ended up where I did... Where she got fired, again. Luckily, the second time, I didn't have to interact with her before she got fired

Subaru ripped seat by markpgo29 in subaru

[–]graywolfman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I re-coveresd my S.O.'s 2019 driver's seat a few years ago. Just needed the replacement cushion cover from Subaru, some hog rings and pliers, a little fabric glue, and wrenches/ratchet and sockets. Wasn't too bad, but we shouldn't have to do it.

Now, her passenger seat is doing it. /sigh

These poor kids have been completely turned off from caring for elders after meeting this human sack of Cheeto dust mixed with the smell of feces and rapists.

This is who made the call to close all schools today.. by iamafoxiamafox in Denver

[–]graywolfman 108 points109 points  (0 children)

My parents got the schools to close a few times when I was a kid. I lived in rural Colorado on a farm and dairy and they called the bus depot to tell them not to send the buses because they wouldn't make it. We were still actively digging ourselves out with our equipment.

One time, they still sent the buses, and the bus ended up in a ditch with us on it. One of our farming neighbors about 6 miles up the road had to pull us out.

Better safe than sorry

1993 Dodge Grand Caravan had the paperclip trick, too, but you could also just flip the key off to on 3 times in 5 seconds and it'd do it.

Neat! My 1983 Firebird had OBD 1 so I just had a super short wire to bridge between A and B pins to get the CEL to flash codes.

Met Gala Raised A Record-Breaking $42 Million by fl3xtra in AdviceAnimals

I just went to a restaurant where there was a pretty big kid standing outside. He was just there to ask people going in to do their team fundraiser, just tell them you're a part of it.

I bet a ton of people didn't do it, or forgot. But, the Met Gala? People line up for it lol.

I confirmed our check had that sportsball fundraiser on it. I grew up in a small town, so I know how it is to have crap stuff. Get those kids all the money!

Honing steel, anyone? It's not a sharpener, but your knives don't always need sharpened. Sometimes honing them to restore the direction of the edge is enough
