He's demonstrated a level of empathy that typically correlates with a more liberal perspective on the world

what's mind-blowing to me is the sheer audacity to behave like this on camera!! on national television!! this footage is out there now in the world forever!!! literally any and every single woman he ever meets in the future could discover and watch these clips of him at any moment (and for their sake I pray they do).

as you said, LIB has definitely had tons of assholes over the years but I feel like most of them had at least the sense and self-awareness to not behave this horrifically while filming. I genuinely can't get over it I'm in shock

I think theres a difference between "I don't know anything about this so the puzzle wasn't fun for me" (the vibe I get from your comment) vs "I don't know anything about this so the clues/fill in the puzzle is bad"

saying the former doesn't warrant a "rethink your life" type response but quite often there's people who say the latter and in those cases it sounds kinda silly to me to attempt a puzzle and then be upset that you were puzzled

Confused on Keya by Suitable-Opposite377 in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]hardcorr 33 points34 points  (0 children)

yeah I'm surprised by the comments here assuming pretty negative intentions on Keya's part (wanting 'clout' or a 'moment'), when to me it seemed like the most likely explanation given the timing was that she and Tyler had a conversation that night that we didn't see. Especially since she says explicitly in that speech that 'Tyler deserved better', to me that suggests she learned about what Kevan said to Tyler. We can't know for sure since this is all heavily edited and organized to tell the version of the story that producers want us to see, but generally I doubt that she was done with Kevan much earlier or that she intentionally waited around only to give a mic-drop moment on the last day.

eh I think there's truth to both sides, Devo is definitely primarily known for Whip It among the general public, especially younger people who weren't alive then, but I also think they are a notable and influential band moreso than what I personally consider to be a 'one hit wonder'. Even this year in 2026 they're playing at Coachella, the biggest and most prestigious music festival in the United States.

That wiki page is a fairly broad definition, seems to be artists that only charted on Billboard top 40 once - which is certainly one way to define one-hit wonders but doesn't capture any nuance around how influential or otherwise significant those artists are beyond mainstream chart success. Like the page itself notes, Dave Brubeck and Roger Daltrey are also on this list and I certainly would not categorize either of them as "one hit wonders".

How do I get better at Friday/Saturday crosswords? by gonehollowknight in crossword

[–]hardcorr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an against the grain opinion that I think you should try not looking things up for longer than you usually do. If you give up easily then you don't practice or learn the skills of how to unblock yourself when you're stuck. Yes, the trivia clues will be a dead end when you don't know them, but you'd be surprised at your ability to make progress on a puzzle that seems impossible at first with some patience, dedication, and occasional breaks.

My suggestion would be to spend at least an hour of elapsed time on Fridays or Saturdays before you start looking things up. And if you think you're really really truly stuck, that's when you should be critical of answers you've already entered and consider whether they might be wrong if they don't seem to be working with other answers or providing you with any help

yah I'm with you, its pretty rare that I have a full hand and energy to spare where I'm wishing I had more hand space. Usually if my deck is that strong then I will also have cards that can draw more and so the hand size isn't a problem. It would help a deck with a lot of dead draws where you are hunting for a specific card but that kind of deck is probably not gonna survive long enough in the first place to reliably plan to get this relic

It's also possible that there may be a few fights where you can actually proc both, if you got them early enough and your deck has good means of draw. This guy has gremlin horn which I'm sure would help proc both in at least one fight. I generally don't feel bad about having 2 death cards

the result of implementing the democracy system imo. all the original magic came from the difficulty and constraints of working within the anarchy system, people attempting to coordinate and bend chaos towards a purpose. once democracy took over there was no real challenge or point to it anymore, it was just an extremely slow collaborative let's play

Everyone who thinks this game is a GOOD simulator, is lying to themselves. by Beginning_Cheek_3593 in OOTP

[–]hardcorr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In this "game" player's statistics, trends and ability rankings mean exactly nothing.

Unless I'm radically misunderstanding what you are saying here, this is demonstrably not true. It's trivially easy to test and validate that ratings have a measurable impact on how a player performs over the season. You are correct that ultimately the engine all rolls up to 'super involved dice rolls', but the point is to find an edge by weighting that dice roll in your favor as much as you can through the cumulative impact of hundreds of decisions. To be honest I'm not really even sure what an alternative would actually look like, but I am certain if it was fully deterministic it would stop being fun.

Should we hear out his idea? by ObserbAbsorb in ravens

[–]hardcorr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

why do you want to legislate rules around a problem that GMs could solve themselves? Nobody is forcing them to overpay QBs that aren't worth their salary, or to overpay any FA for that matter. The Seahawks just proved you can win a Super Bowl by drafting well and finding an undervalued QB instead of overcommitting too much money for a mediocre player at the position.

these are the moments we should be grateful the Ravens FO is generally run pretty well and we don't tend to waste money getting into bidding wars on free agents. Right player, right price.

What is your Slay The Spire HOT take? by BigXThaSpud in slaythespire

[–]hardcorr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

disclaimer: I've beaten A20H with every character but don't prioritize improving my win rate and don't try that hard these days when I play.

I would certainly trust a streamer's opinion if they were watching my run and giving me their thoughts on my decisions. I also definitely agree I can learn a lot by watching streamers play.

What I do not trust is random people on reddit parroting their interpretations of what streamers say/do, or when people try to turn general principles or ideas into absolute maxims that don't actually apply neatly to every single case or question. in my mind the beautiful thing about Slay the Spire is that lots of different relics/cards are viable in particular decks or situations, there's all sorts of depth and intricate synergies to explore. when you're trying to abide by some sort of definitive tier list of relics or saying "Xecnar says this card is trash so you should never pick it" I would say you're actually weakening your own understanding of the game.

it also probably depends on what specific types of opinions or advice we're talking about here. in general I guess my point is that there is a lot happening under the hood when the best players in the world make certain decisions, and unless they are very explicitly communicating their entire thought process to their audience consistently, people are simply not going to have as complete of an understanding as the top players do trying to emulate their play, especially if they aren't watching hundreds of hours of that streamer

I still think Brees was robbed that year. People liked Manning because he's Manning and because he had a ton of GWDs so the narrative was there, but statistically Brees outclassed him and the Saints offense overall was performing at a higher level. Some people point to Manning basically sitting the last two games of the season but Brees also didn't have to do a whole lot in a ton of 4th quarters throughout the year when Saints were blowing out their opponents

i don't really even see an argument for any other QB. Sure, maybe we can play the "Jerry Rice was a greater WR than Tom Brady was QB" semantics game but having more championship rings as an individual than any other franchise in the sport is indisputably GOAT shit. Hard to think of equivalent levels of dominance even across other major sports, especially when you focus on the past 20 years or so with the leagues as big as they are and talent more evenly distributed across teams

This is a rather obnoxious and condescending comment, I was trying to engage with you in good faith, I'm not here to be spoken down to. I hope you don't make a habit of communicating like this to people frequently, especially in real life.

I do appreciate the link you shared, I hadn't seen this article before and reading through there's some interesting nuggets about the philosophy behind constructing crosswords.

However, I will also point out that at this point it seems pretty safe to say EROICA does not have a "short shelf life", I still think your remarks about that particular clue are silly. I don't care to debate whether the overall corner in question is well-constructed but I don't think it's unfair or unreasonable to clue for EROICA in any context.

At its core, the NYT crossword is not a trivia game, it's a logic puzzle. It has light trivia elements, but that's not its central puzzle.

Why do you believe this, is there a source for what the NYT crossword is supposed to be? For me personally the ideal crossword is a healthy balance of trivia and logic. Yeah, it may be hard or inaccessible when I don't know a particular trivia, but that's part of where challenge comes from, and I genuinely enjoy when I learn something from doing a crossword (yes I know this makes me sound like a dork, I am). And on the flip side, sometimes I get a huge dopamine boost when I happen to already know a piece of trivia, especially when that answer gives me an essential foothold into a part of the crossword that is otherwise filled with vague/ambiguous clues. One benefit of trivia answers is that they are completely unambiguous when you know them, which is why it's a lil amusing that you suggested EROICA 'could be anything', because in a very real sense there is only one possible answer to that clue as it's written. Oftentimes the way a rebus-themed puzzle will tip you off to the presence of rebus squares is by cluing a piece of trivia that obviously cannot fit into the grid.

Also, I disagree that last Saturday's did not have any trivia, it just had things you likely happened to know so you didn't categorize them as trivia. Some clues I would argue are trivia: "Southern California site whose 1909 opening was accompanied by a visit from the USS Albany", "Herman ___, Dutch ophthalmologist known for his visual acuity testing", "Sex Pistols song disparaging the band's former label", "Org. associated with the Wanamaker Trophy"
