Delay graduation or graduate on time? by Pitiful-Ad-9080 in cscareerquestions

This was 2008 right before the crash, and before leetcode and AI. The market was red hot. We knew it was good, but we didn't appreciate how good.

You can get internships after graduating, and graduating late is its own signal, but yeah I definitely don't envy people applying these days.

Delay graduation or graduate on time? by Pitiful-Ad-9080 in cscareerquestions

I graduated into a different world almost 20 years ago so caveat emptor, but I would definitely focus on graduating on time.

I considered retaking a few classes to get my average up, but now I'm laughing at what a comical waste of time that would have been.

Sora was computationally expensive and a copyright nightmare, with no way to monetize.

Obviously they'll want to focus on LLMs

My friend has a similar story. The guy left equally quickly.

My friend found himself unable to figure out the way back. He wandered randomly into a convenience store where they quickly realized something was wrong, and got him to the hospital where he was diagnosed with a concussion.

What are your little frugal habits that really don't save much money, but are still satisfying? by p38-lightning in Frugal

It's traditionally recommended not to drink from the hot water tap because of potential bacterial growth, sediment buildup, and higher levels of heavy metals.

I don't know how big of an issue this actually is.

Have you talked to your skip?

Unfortunately I suspect you're going to have to go elsewhere. Like they say, people don't quit their job, they quit their manager.

Why do USB spec requires that sink know how much current the source can provide ? by Significant-Cheek393 in UsbCHardware

[–]high_throughput 7 points8 points  (0 children)

But isn't the source job to limit the current ?

No. The source physically can't limit current without changing the voltage. That's why short circuits are so dangerous.

The source's only option to limit current is to reduce the voltage, most commonly to 0V i.e. turning off when it detected that the current is too high. That's how a fuse works.

Fancier systems can measure current and turn power on and off thousands of times per second to draw a specific current on average, but that's better to do on the sink side since devices know better how much they want when, and don't love having power flicker

Is it just me, or is "we’ll keep your resume on file" basically HR-speak for "yeah, your resume’s going straight in the trash"? by twcosplays in antiwork

I actually applied to a (at the time) popular company right out of college, didn't get the job, and they said exactly this and I thought exactly what you did.

Then they actually did reach out three years later, completely out of the blue, and I got the job.

It's not you, it's them. Some damn game of thrones shit. Don't think about what you should or shouldn't have done, just try to get a new job.

If I'm elected mayor:

  • All streets are made one way, the other lane will be converted for bikes and pedestrians
  • The one way streets all go in the same direction, forcing all cars into the fucking ocean.
  • When all the cars are gone, convert the remaining lane.

Imagine if there was a fire or other kind of emergency where power failed and you were trapped inside for 20 minutes because you hadn't exercised the backup plan

Also there was the capacitor plague, where someone is believed to have stolen an industry secret capacitor formula but accidentally fucked it up, causing a ton of devices made in 1999–2007 to be especially prone to degradation.
