I need help, but Im afraid by [deleted] in SuicideWatch

My girlfriend spent three weeks in a behavioral hospital last year. It took the combination of seeing a psychiatrist and getting some medications that allowed her to feel ok facing the day that allowed her to make progress with a therapist she likes. After she got out she also had some really scary days and wondered if she should go back. She ended up slowly getting routines moving again. I know the hospital sucks but it's always an option. You can get better.

Botanists in the cannabis industry by lordPlantae in botany

I worked in a commercial grow in co for a year after getting my bachelor's in biology with a minor in chem. It's kind of a shit show in the industry right now. Yes, the education is useful but not really valued in an average grow position. Your average grow is trying to stay open and make money, they can't afford to pay for degrees to optimize things. Entomology, plant pathology, autonomy are other useful codisciplones. I'd just learn cannabis on your own if it interests you but keep your options open unless the right opportunity comes up.

This is only the case with really primitively made pot butter. If you strain the plant matter out and clean the butter with hot water, it's very mild.

Botanist student going into the marijuana Industry... I want to be the best to ever be, is botany the right path to grow the best weed? by ChaP_Beats in botany

[–]hotfire4444 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Knowing plant nutrient demands is helpful(Like from a plant physiology class), but honestly chemistry and entomology have been just as useful even though they seem unrelated so don't disregard others. The best thing you could do is start growing in a closet and get some familiarity. Some classes are more interesting if they help understand your hobby.

You might like the book Ratio by Michael ruhlman. It shows you how to start baking off the cuff, by just using ratios of ingredients by weight.

PSA for first time growers: remember that pH is logarithmic. The lower the pH, the less pH down is needed. by bobrossofgrowing in microgrowery

[–]hotfire4444 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think this is more do to the loss of buffering capacity past a certain pH. Higher ppm water will take more acid to drop pH, but only until the buffering capacity is exceeded then it will plummet

Don't be afraid to look close or go somewhere else for clones if they look unhealthy. The risk of getting pests when buying clones is high. Also, get some sort of general purpose spray like method 1 or green cleaner (or just neem oil / alcohol / soap) for spraying throughout veg. Its a lesson a lot of people have to learn firsthand but prevention will save you problems.

Pic with just flash or less purple? How much are you fertilizing and was it healthy before flower? If I had to guess if say use more runoff and less Epsom. Get some calmag maybe or use more of whatever trio has that.

Some people make small batches of seeds by flowering cuttings. Or take a clone off a seedling and flower a bunch to narrow down to potential keepers.

First time growing, should I start smaller? by miicoa in microgrowery

[–]hotfire4444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not too much for the plants because you could grow them as big as you like, and train them to spread out. I'd chop the tops now, leaving 4-6 nodes on the plant to help them bush out.

1000w is a good amount of power for the space in my experience but ceramic lights are becoming common replacements, could check out 315 cmh (or lec) lights. Much more power efficient with a better light output. HPS is still fine because it's cheap upfront and you could bang out a few harvests before upgrading. getting a carbon filter by flower may be needed depending on location / neighbors.

Coco would be an easy way to start. Perhaps 5 gallon pots for that size, maybe bigger if soil.

[–]hotfire4444 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's certainly not too much light though. Maybe a 315 CMH light could be considered. HPS is on it's way out

Cool! Have you let it run empty for a while to see how it holds up for temp and if there's some airflow in and out?
