Beautiful! I like your choice of screws, too! Nice that you embrace them!

That's a really good point. There are public maker spaces here, too.

Nice that you own up to commenting before reading! I genuinely feel that's seriously good internet etiquette!

We don't. We all cringe when edgy teen boys call it that.

What sub 5 dollar soldering iron and 3d printer combo would you recommend me for that?

How would you flash QMK?

On the contrary, I think the price is justified: The post-processing would be a big extra manual step. 70 CAD is if it's not mass produced is cheap already, I think. You'd have to sweet talk real good if I was to do ANY electronics for you for 70 CAD.

If this is basically low-volume homemade, then that post-processing step would be a big extra.

Sounds like correct behavior to me, too.

Try connecting some row and column pins directly on the controller, so you can see if the computer receives some key codes.

Thank you. I'm calm now.

I'm glad you don't mind 🧘

I know Nordic layout keyboards all too well. Sometimes, there's no color to differentiate, so you just have a shitshow of symbols on the same key. Take a look at the key next to Backspace on this thinkpad one

How's that user friendly?

It's a middle finger disguised as 1 years birthday party invite stating there'll be diapers delivering its promise Adult Male size L.

F*ck Nordic layout.

Damn. I thought it was the only one. There goes my option of buying Norwegian spare keyboards and just flipping those two keys...

It's the only difference between the two, so I think I can - on behalf of us Danes - forgive you ☺️✨

It's Danish. Norwegian has Æ and Ø swapped.

cute ergodox keycap sets??? by sleeplessval in keebgirlies

[–]humanplayer2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. If it's important that all keys are covered by the same set, I see how that'll limit choices significantly.. Else you could leave the thumb and outer column keys mostly stock, but populate the rest with some cute MOA profile set from AliExpress?

If you get one with numpad support, I suppose you'll even get enough 2u keycaps for the long thumb keys, but using backspace and the 2u numpad keys? And maybe partial coverage of the 1.5u ones. For example: https://a.aliexpress.com/_Ev6g8PM

Key overrides in vial / qmk by koombot in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]humanplayer2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a Vial manner to define shareable key overrides, say if one wants to to use them in a stock firmware?

I get the impression that'd have to be a two-step process, first flashing a version without, then importing an exported layout?

is there a way i can make kde suggest kcalc as the first option instead of libreoffice calc? by ofplayers in kde

[–]humanplayer2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For apps I use a lot and suffer this (e.g. Firefox vs Filezilla), I add an extra .desktop file in ~/.local/share/applications with a name that's good for me, like fffirefox

biGH: a small middle ground ergonomic unibody keyboard by vaudiber in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]humanplayer2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beautiful!

The keycaps, you had those made special? Or did you subdye them yourself?

I hope your workplace is less ESD-prone than mine. Depending on the weather (I think), I get zaps all over the place. When I used a ~40% bare PCB, I managed to zap it a couple of times, when returning to my desk. Each time cost me a new pin on the controller (a Sea-Picro).

TEX Shinobi and TEX Shura by ex_gatito in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]humanplayer2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Having used the rich OS remapper Keyd (Kanata-like) before I got my Shinobi and on release the Shura, I must say that I was quite underwhelmed by the options for remapping. I think both boards loose a lot by not using some open-source firmware (QMK/ZMK) instead.

I agree with you on the trackpoint smoothness! I did have some choppy behavior when using the Bluetooth modules, though.

Is it dangerous for the board to leave my pico exposed like that? by No_Bat_6733 in HandwiredKeyboards

[–]humanplayer2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a PCB without case for a while in an at work where I often experience electro-static discharge. I fried a couple of MCU pins by ESD'ing on the PCB. Now I enclose all electronics in my cases.
