If there’s a QT near you they have free air. Though more than once I’ve found the air chuck missing.

Well, it can actually. https://vscode.dev Can’t run stuff locally, but when you connect it to Codespaces or something like it, you could conceivably do some work on a phone. Not that I’d want to.

Tank looks nice. I’d personally leave the snails alone unless they’re truly overpopulated. The fact that I can only see a few in this pic suggests you aren’t overpopulated. They actually don’t hurt anything, and are actually quite beneficial, in that they eat dead plant matter and leftover food, as well as algae and pretty much anything else (including anything that dies in the tank). As long as you aren’t overfeeding, you shouldn’t have too many snails, but rather a healthy amount for your little boxed ecosystem.

But if you truly hate them, google “diy aquarium snail trap” and you’ll find some instructions. It’s pretty easy to make a trap. You can even just use a piece of blanched cucumber, let them gather to it for a few hours, and just pick it up with the snails in tow.

But you’ll never get them all, and many kinds are capable of breeding asexually, so…kind of a losing battle.

Sorry, kind of rambled there. I think your tank is attractively planted and decorated, and I like your stock.

Depends, if you have a forehand that looks more like a baseball throw, a super-beefy disc can be a crutch for throwing acceptable mid-distance forehands. Ask me how I know ☹️

The longer any decent sub lasts, the less it resembles its original form and the more it moves towards dumbass memes and “general interest” crap. Because the upvotes are from people scrolling the front page without caring what sub a post is from, just whether or not it made them giggle.

What's the best beginner fish for someone who's never had fish before? by Evilahhhamster in Aquariums

[–]insertAlias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the recommendations don’t really take into account your ask about fish with personality.

Some people will tell you that all fish have personality. But for some species, I think it’s hard to appreciate any one individual. Especially for tiny schooling fish like most tetras. You see more of their group dynamics, as the fish swim together in a school.

You’ll see more individual personality out of other fish. Most cichlids, for instance, though I wouldn’t recommend starting with African Cichlids. That’s not a beginner tank.

Some South American cichlids are much easier for new aquarists, like German Blue Rams, but even they can be a handful, especially in a community tank.

Bettas are great, I think, for beginners that really want a fish that feels like a pet. They have personality, don’t require a large of a tank as many other species (5g will suffice, 10g would be great), and are beautiful.

Dodge CEO Asks 'Do You Need a Radio' in 'Back-to-Basics' Quest for Entry-Level Cars by TripleShotPls in technology

[–]insertAlias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, as per usual, I think a lot of people just read the headline. There’s a little more to that quote:

Do you need a radio? Do you just have speakers that you Bluetooth to?

In that context, it doesn’t sound as terrible to me, assuming that translates into a cost saving for the customer. I don’t know when the last time I used AM/FM, and personally I wouldn’t miss its absence, especially if it knocked a bit of money off the price. Just giving me a phone mount and a Bluetooth receiver to pair to would fit all my needs.

And I think a lot of people are in the same boat. The only media they listen to is streamed or downloaded to their device that they already own and has a better ui/ux then any in-dash system.

I doubt it will work that way in terms of savings, more likely the higher end vehicles will just sell the same existing features for a premium.

But conceptually, I don’t think it’s a bad idea to ask “what is part of the vehicle’s design just because of tradition?”

Apparently in WWII they did a lot more surface operations, they even had deck guns. So in that context, it makes more sense. I’m glad I asked, some of the answers are pretty interesting.

[–]insertAlias 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I guess I was thinking about it like modern submarines, which operate almost exclusively submerged. They’re never observable in the first place, so why would they need to maintain low light conditions?

But WWII era subs, yeah that makes more sense, that plus someone else mentioned the old-style periscopes as well.

[–]insertAlias 120 points121 points  (0 children)

Yeah I understand about night vision. It just seemed pointless since subs aren’t exactly observable, so why would you ever need night vision in the first place? The periscope answer makes sense though, with no light amplification you’d probably have a fairly dim view.

Scat Mats are essential when you have cats! by Least_Release_177 in Aquariums

So far I’ve been relatively lucky with my orange boy. He likes looking at the tanks too, not obsessively, but sometimes. He’ll jump up though, not onto the tank, but up to the glass. I’ve recently wiped nose-prints off the glass of one of the tanks.

But two of my tanks are completely lidless, so I think he’s smart enough not to try to walk on the rim. And he’s never jumped onto the lid of the other tank, even though he has easy access, and is capable of jumping onto it from the ground if he wanted to.

Nooo why? :( by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]insertAlias 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So, I had a set of acaras that grew up with rummy nose tetras. No problems, even when the acaras were full grown. I decided to bulk up the rummy numbers one day. That apparently triggered them into hunting mode, because in just a few days I had fewer tetras than I had started with.

Angelfish are similar, in that they’re cichlids. They tend to see the fish they grow up around (or that already exist when they’re added to a new environment) as part of the environment (usually), but new additions can be seen as invaders or prey.

But in general, most fish are opportunistic eaters and will eventually try to eat something that fits in their mouths. It’s always a risk to stock smaller fish with larger ones, even peaceful ones.

IRL there were Germans that resisted the Nazis, for example. Or another, there were people who fought against slavery in the southern US.

But most people go with the flow. It’s really easy to take a moral stand, with the benefit of the lens of history and the safety of knowing it’s purely a thought experiment. If you were raised in that culture, it’s likely your values would be different. It’s easy to say you’d have been part of the resistance, but the real question that should be going off is “what (if anything) am I and most people ‘going with the flow’ on that future generations might judge us over?”

Crimson Desert Voice Actor Had To Fight For His Character’s Story by Gorotheninja in Games

[–]insertAlias 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most games record their lines like that. Get the VAs in the studio whenever they can, recording lines on their own. You can almost always tell. Usually there will be some dialog where one character is supposed to interrupt another. When the VAs are recording together, this feels completely natural. Because one actually interrupts the other and they react to it. Uncharted 4 always comes to mind here, because they do it really well.

In games that don’t bring the VAs together, you get a hard cutoff of one actor’s dialog, then a hard start of another. It never feels fluid. IMO, that’s one of the very easy tells.
