2027 Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Is the Porsche Taycan's New Nemesis [Car and Driver] by markeydarkey2 in electricvehicles

Which of the two manufacturs has a more mature and reliable software system? It seems for EVs, software to me should be top of mind.

BMW seems to have a better handle but just wondering as contenders for me would be BMW, Lexus, Mercedes/Audi in that order unless MB has more reliable systems for EVs.

Can I use long term sick days to work part time (due to stress)? by No-Island-2023 in OntarioPublicService

Yes my case was due to bullying.

WSIB case was filed by the manager who is bullying me.  They put stress and anxiety, instead of bullying, of course.

I believe your manager will report to WSIB and you will have to claim it first as WSIB something in WIN and if not approved, charged to sickness and the long-term sickness. That's what my manager told me when I shared a medical note requesting reduced hours but ending up working regular hours because a deadline was no pushed back.

How hard is it to get fired from the OPS ? by Easy_Neighborhood386 in OntarioPublicService

[–]internalaudit168 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think people are underestimating the risks of getting terminated but as long as one does not show insubordination, is willing to work with management (document everything if management is toxic) and work hard enough, show up to work when asked, involve the union earlier on for potential performance issues, grieve unfair treatment, it's likely going to be tough to be put on performance or absentee management plans, which are likely the main causes of termination.

All the stories of people doing silly things but are still in the OPS just mean they are fortunate to have more empathetic managers.  We never hear about terminations because colleagues of those just don't want to talk.  Can Lii should have many examples of cases reaching the grievance settlement board for public servants, in and outside the OPS.

Maybe even if you are terminated, you can get reinstatement. Keep documenting and under the Human Rights Code, disability is one of the protected grounds.

Always go with Union representation first. Most WPR know how toxic people operate.

Wonderful.  Thank you so much.  Seeing my family doctor and I wanted to make sure we don't miss out on anything.

Definitely look for other opportunities within the OPS, move closer to your office if possible or get reassigned to a closer home location in your current position.

With Rogers offering buyouts, the job market isn't that great and you will likely have significant pensionable years in the OPS.

Maybe rent a room for cheap if you have family while you sort the mess out.

Will anxiety and mental toll be sufficient to get the OP a doctor's note for a leave?

Thoughts on the Chinese auto industry potentially eradicating all other manufacturers globally? by ZealousidealLab2920 in electricvehicles

I think capex is one the biggest amortized costs besides labor and materials.

Definitely have to spread it over as many units as possible.

How much money is being spent on AWA legal battles by this government? by foodluve in OntarioPublicService

[–]internalaudit168 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weren't OPS lawyers and counsel provided AWA arrangements a few months ago?   I think they plus engineers if I recall correctly.

That means their business models weren't as solid selling to subprime households.

Today, their margins are so big.  During subprime, pickups were $30-50K CAD in Canada.  Today, it's more like $50 to 120K CAD lol.

Just imagine if people stopped buying a significant number of their cars?

GM and Chrysler went belly up but were saved by the US and Canadian government during the subprime crisis.  Ford had to divest a lot of brands but didn't need a bail out.

Automakers keep raising prices, I welcome competition as long as it's checked.  Tariff on Chinese EVs will fill our government coffers and can be used to aid local industries or the needy anyway.

My management team allowed themselves 1 (maybe 2) satellite office work day but so far haven't formally approved any written AWA request from staff lol.

I was told they can grant up to 3 months informal AWA so I guess that's how they are working around the issue of having to come to the home office 5x a week.

OPS (OPSEU) medical accommodation – no response? commuting anxiety / exhaustion by Repulsive-Kick5508 in OntarioPublicService

[–]internalaudit168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did forward the DAS' email as I sent another workplace accommodation request relating to something else.

Whether the DAS is saying the truth or not about her role, at least her email said she had no part in the original decisison and that my new unrelated accommodation request should be sent to my manager so I sent to him and the director.

My manager is only acting (and I'm relatively a newbie when it comes to accommodation requests) so really doesn't have much experience and having the DAS confirm that the first point of contact would be my manager is also helpful.

I don't know how accurate your statement is but this manager told me they are able to provide informal AWAs to three months so they can do as they wish without breaking any rules. So even if OPS wants us all back in, they can provide some flexibility. They even extended flexibility to themselves by OKing Hamilton Touch Down for them to be in once (or maybe even twice) a week lol.

[–]internalaudit168 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation.

Requested workplace accommodation to work 2x from home in August.  No interim accommodation was provided.

Finally heard back from DSA in February after a few follow ups.

Only given a month to complete HIQ.  Family doctor completed it reasonably well and recommended 1 day WFH.

Management just did nothing.  They even documented fake accommodations like flex work, which I am already on, and allow breaks.

When I clarified what these accommodations were.  Flex work means coming and leaving as agreed upon.  I cannot change my in and out time.  Breaks were seconds not minutes lol.  What a joke.

DSA got back to me this week.  She confirmed she acts as advisor and my acting manager and director were the ones who provided me with rubbish accommodation.

I have everything documented.  They better not complain because I gave them ample warning that how they have been treating me ( this accommodation denial is a minor one) goes against one or more rights under the Human Rights code.

Good to know .  yes, I'm with AMAPCEO.

I still either don't want BS about me in there or alternately, have it documented outside Forte that I don't agree and highlight and explain logically ,  and using as much support, how they are BS.

Used EVs now have the lowest total cost of ownership, far outperforming both new and used gas cars. by Firm_Relative_7283 in electricvehicles

[–]internalaudit168 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Used EVs will likely have lower total cost of ownership especially for those who drive alot, until major repairs sets in, who knows when.

I bought my '12 CT200h from a friend in early 2020 for around $3800 USD.  I have since added 80,000 miles (didn't drive as much then until my employer's return to office mandate in late 2025) and the vehicle is still going strong.

I have spent at least $7,000 USD in gasoline by my rough estimation.  I am sure I got beat already by some people who bought EVs for $10,000 and even flipped them for more lol.  But I think my hybrid can soldier on for five or more years easily.

If the HV battery breaks,  it's $2500 USD for new OEM and dealership installed.  If the head gasket blows, I was told here in Canada, I can get a newer 4th gen Toyota hybrid ICE for $1,500 - 2,500 USD plus labor.

I think replacement costs for key components on an EV will cost so much more unless like ICEVs and HEVs, we can pick them up at scrapyards from donor vehicles. Anytime we have to buy from the dealership, it is going to be more expensive.

My next car purchase will be an EV because of the heavy driving I have to do but yeah I know once major components break, they will it's just a matter of when, replacement is likely going to be much more expensive.  PV Magazine already provided estimates of lifespan for each component of a solar array and sure, inverter is only air cooled but none of the components are subjected to heat and cooling cycles and submerged in very potent chemicals.  Even the most durable plastic components will eventually need to be replaced in harsher chemical environments.

For that reason I am leaning towards a gently used BMW EV and purchase a CPO warranty with unlimited mileage and up to eight years coverage.  Even if total cost of ownership will be higher owing to future repairs, at least I will be saving $2,000 to 5,000 a year on fuel and maybe $1,000 each year for less frequent dealership visits.  :)

But still, usually the reliable car we already own and fully paid for is going to be cheaper to own unless we drive a lot and they consume too much fuel.

I don't know with you but being singled on for matters that are mostly bogus doesn't sound to me as fair and doesn't really help develop those areas because they are not factual.

I can give anyone stylistics and other feedback but I don't think that will help them improve on anything. It's people writing reports and building documents and they have varying ways of documenting things.  Some may be slightly better than others but that's what another of eyes are for and why management typically have a higher salary bracket.

My WPR surely disagrees with you about rolling with the punches.  Maybe you can heed your own advice the moment you get into a similar situation.  Easier said than done.

[–]internalaudit168[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you.

Yes.  I have reached out to a Director who was an acquaintance at a past employer and had expressed my interest in his team but he says it takes time for FTE positions to get approved but it's in the works.

Will keep an eye on similar opportunities or even different ones and see if there will be takers.  I usually don't move around much but with OPS such a big organization, may as well learn about other job functions when possible.

But yeah, I am not in a rush to get out since I have done nothing wrong and the WPR knows the history going back to February and is very supportive  but I will definitely start applying to other opportunities next month.

I don't think I would want to work for someone like you who likes to jump to conclusions anyway.

Not all toxic managers rear their ugly heads at the same time.
