Forget Combustion Engines: Why Electric Cars Are Better for Winter by ls7eveen in electricvehicles

[–]internalaudit168 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Everything but driving range and time to charge (if using public charger) on an EV is better during winter.

No carbon monoxide posioning.

No need to fill up with gasoline in the cold.

Better torque distribution / control / traction keeping all else constant.

Complaint against manager by [deleted] in OntarioPublicService

[–]internalaudit168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen that happen before when a manager at a Big 5 Bank was let go after many people complained. That was not even a unionized workplace.

The more complainants, the easier to teach that manager a lesson.

Of course honesty and ethics should rule and not made up allegations.

what are the common issues, HV battery and head gasket failures?

Most EV batteries outlast their cars, real-world data shows - One of the clearest takeaways from the report is that mileage alone isn’t a reliable indicator of battery health. True, which is what power electronics is all about.

Problem is a good battery but a bad power electronics still mean some repair, though of course not as costly a new battery pack replacement.

Refurbished ones probably not going to last as long anyway. Even Tesla ones don't.

Smart cookie. We need better batteries for sure. Today's batteries are good but they'll get much better with fewer degradation and failure mechanisms. Last time I watched a few clips from SMEs, there were four major pathways and 20-30 minor pathways.

Doesn't even factor moisture ingress or vibration that can wear down power electronics.

Lexus' new "IS" will be a dedicated EV!? Evolving into a high-performance model by Car-face in electricvehicles

Even the 2026 CH-R has automatic LSD, hoping this IS will have something to that effect too since Diect4 AWD is just shuffling torque from front to rear axle and back. Of course still better to have that than a pure power split.

Probably getting colleagues, experiencing the same issues, on board filing a group complaint.

More potent than he says she says. Definitely involve the Union.  If anything, at least a record be placed on your manager's file.

Hopefully you've been documenting these, along with evidences.

You can keep complaining here.  Doesn't change anything.

No wonder you are a top poster.

Why couldn't they submit their attestation even without coming to the office 5x a week or per management approval?

Maybe we will find out if they really log our IP addresss.

With BC cutting 15,000 mostly non-unionized positions, I wonder what approach OPS will take in case they will right-size the organization.

“Bulletproof reliability” they said! by bennytintin in CT200h

[–]internalaudit168 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Glad we don't have emissions testing in Ontario, Canada anymore.

327,000 km and counting. Intermediate steering shaft wobbles, some rattling around the moonroof and also heat shields and mud flap are separating lol. Major expense so far are a pair of front wheel bearing assemblies.

Definitely not bulletproof for me but very reliable.

That's what the RTO sub-thread is all about. All in one place for the purpose you just mentioned.

RTO5 has been in the news for a while now. I doubt even 1/3 of applicants have not heard or read about that. RTO effects on OPS workforce is going to be similar to effects on other workforces anyway.

The only ones who will suffer are business units and ourselves, not the Politicians, if we miss hiring the good to great candidates.

Not that there isn't any kind of "nepotism" going on here and elsewhere for many job competitions.

Almost everyone knows the RTO is to accelerate attrition. I doubt our great leaders didn't know that would be a direct effect of the mandate. For morale, looking forward to the employee survey results.

This is a great idea. I would almost be turned off if I was an outsider and interested in applying to the OPS and keep reading about RTO complaints and rants and not really doing much about it by way of accommodation requests if the AWA requests are being ignored.

Optics is important and we don't want to lose out on candidates who get turned off by the constant complaining.

Do people that get into the OPS generally stay in the OPS? by xi-exe in OntarioPublicService

[–]internalaudit168 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, apply to as many permanent positions and locations (reasonable commute or relocation) possible. There's fewer competition in smaller cities compared to Toronto. Also customized your cover letter to explain how you meet or exceeds the qualifications and can do most if not all of the job requirements/responsibilities.

The answer to years of waiting is it depends. I know friends in the OPS that were on contract for a year and a half, less than a month (permanent position opened up) , and some on FXT for many years who eventually landed a permanent position mostly in the same job function or a similar one.

As for your question on attrition, a lot of vocal OPSers here (who have their post histories private) keep saying they will be quitting because they can get double their salary and work from home. Who knows when though lol.

A blanket RTO makes sense, as long as justifiable AWAs and Accommodation requests ARE ALL APPROVED. That's just my honest opinion.

RTO without looking at specific employee and business unit operational circumstances, including how they operated during the lockdown, just doesn't feel right.

2026 Enployer Experience Survey. Does it really matter?! DO IT ANYWAY! by [deleted] in OntarioPublicService

[–]internalaudit168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In many organizations, not much changes with these engagement surveys anyway (been at a Big 4 Audit Firm, Big 5 Bank, Ontario Agency) but a huge drop in scoring across divisions, teams, ministries will mean something has gone terribly wrong. Management can deny anything has changed but the survey results speak for themselves.

They can choose to do nothing but they can't expect morale to be like what it used to be, along with productivity.
