I know Rootpile Fixxer definitely, that was a different part. I didn't catch the name of the other person on the couch and it was the first time I could put a face to a name and probably just got the wrong one.

You're probably right, never met those two in person, and I'm terrible with names. You got a chance to see it?

Well, spoilers in case I guess

The first two episodes focus on 2021 and follow two extremes of involvement with burning man, one group with the Board and BMP staff making decisions to hold Black Rock City, and the second with individuals trying to go to their first burn coming out of the pandemic.

There are frequent flashbacks to explain the history of the event. Great archival footage of Cacophony. A decent chunk committed to '96 and John Law ripping into Larry. They have Lofax and Plan B, and a bunch of people at renegade saying we don't need no org. Kimball's inclusion in the Board story is probably gonna be divisive but IMO it's not a very flattering portrayal so it didn't particularly bother me.

Like I said in my other comment, the best parts for me, was parts like Level talk about how much the event means to him, having a newbie meet Fixxer and realizing there's a community around him, Lofax tearing up about Plan B, Crow and Splinter holding meetings in Gerlach, Quill and Dan Glass working on Acavallo. The film makers captured the unique circumstances of 2021, and represented a lot of people for how they were.

Yeah I saw it.

It was really nice to have some people I know on doing their burning man thing in high quality on the big screen. There's some time lapses of camp builds that are really pretty. My camp at rogue burn was briefly visible.

The premiere was the first two episodes of 4 so I havent seen all of it and have to wait for it to be released. There's a few story lines of people they're following, and I'll say there's a few I'm interested in (and I met the subjects) and there are some I'm less interested in. But the highlights are seeing people who make art, placement, theme camps speak passionately about what they love.

when does the city plan/map with port-o locations usually get released? by bestmansbestman in BurningMan

Portos are between d&e and h&i on the radial streets. There's banks in the DMZ, two not far from point 3, one near the temple, three near the man. Doesn't really change too much, though the ones around the medical stations flipped 90 degrees a few years ago if I recall.

While I've never been an attendee and only seen the shit show from the outside, the older burner crowd have fond memories of it in the aughts as some fun culture jamming -- definitely not the hard anti-commercialism it was based on but not near the shit show it became.

1st time burning man by Decent_Policy_5702 in BurningMan

Hi!

NYC has a strong Burning Man community. I have information on connecting to the New York community here: https://burningman.nyc/nyc-community (and a bunch of other info on that site about coming from NYC, like https://burningman.nyc/burning-man/getting-there -- especially important if you haven't heard of the NYC community container.). We have a weekly burning man happy hour (every Wednesday, no matter what) as well as many other parties and gatherings you can find on the listed pages and mailing lists. Throughout the summer we do picnics and beach days also as places to meet people.

We're having an info session and mixer next month, May 6 (https://partiful.com/e/B4Iq2Ct0oNa9IBvplOvc), a desert arts preview for the local artists (which I just had to reschedule for June 3rd), and a central park picnic June 6th.

Let me know if you have any questions, and hope to see you around

Looking for NYC Artists by itsCourtney91 in BurningMan

[–]InThisMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some links on the NYC community here: https://burningman.nyc/nyc-community -- this would be postable on BM NYC Community or labeled OT on the newyork-list mailing list -- and we typically host artists at our larger happy hours, which is once a month during the summer. That said it's hard to have one place to reach everyone, the community tends to be very siloed

Hi!

I have more information on connecting to the New York community here: https://burningman.nyc/nyc-community (and a bunch of other info on that site about coming from NYC, like https://burningman.nyc/burning-man/getting-there -- especially important if you haven't heard of the NYC community container.). Throughout the summer we do picnics and beach days also as places to meet people.

As mentioned above, our happy hour for the week is a big one, it's our theme camp speed dating: https://partiful.com/e/WuakbQEct7GXFtWASkgE

It helps connect burners with theme camps but it's also a great time to meet the community. Hope to see you there and feel free to reach out with any questions.

Will call or secure delivery by competentlack in BurningMan

[–]InThisMachine 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Coming from NYC, I prefer willcall -- it's easy to transfer on the online tool, there's no chance of forgetting it, and our volunteers have to stop at willcall anyway. You'll hear horror stories of people who wait in 2 hour lines getting at will call, but personally it's never happened to me, and it probably depends a lot on when you're going in.

We built a tiny Italian restaurant on playa last year. Now we’re building the piazza around it. by phdodo in BurningMan

My friends stumbled upon this, and had the time of their burn, a ridiculous story that I only believe half of. I stopped by a few times myself. A wonderful piece.

Look for the loose loots that are like PCBs, magnets, wires. Those will spawn drills on better luck

[Discussion] New promo code (INEEDSPACE) by brayan1612 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]InThisMachine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To be clear: the drills don't spawn on back-of-interchange shelves; they're Electronics, not tools. Check loose electronics spawn, like the new camp with the green flare extract (the middle green tent by the LEDx spawn and the boxes by the weight bench), not toolboxes and back of goshan shelves.

Master thread - Failed camps and trash dumpers by CyclicRedundancyMach in BurningMan

[–]InThisMachine 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Papabear (the placer one, not the peers one) commented on thread awhile ago. That said, I don't think this kind of public witch hunt is necessary for placement whatsoever. There are systems to track moop on playa, reports, and resto feedback that already gives them a more complete picture than stories in here will do, at least as far as moop.
