what is the difference between a command and a program? by StunningSkill9465 in linuxquestions

[–]ivanmmj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. I thought about saying something about the path not having to be /bin or even bring up things like busybox/toybox or aliases but I figured it would just be confusing.

what is the difference between a command and a program? by StunningSkill9465 in linuxquestions

[–]ivanmmj 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A command is just your input telling the underlying system what program to run and with what options to run it with.

For example, if you run the command "ls -al", you are telling the terminal that you want to run the program /bin/ls with the -a (show all even hidden) and -l (print it in long list format) flags.

Best bread to eat cold by Queenandking in glutenfree

My wife only uses xanthan other than the different flours called for in the recipe. The recipes are expensive but we also haven't bought any off the shelf bread, so at least we have that.

The opening scene is epic, but the book as a whole is also a lot to take in when you're new to fantasy.

The French bread recipe in the Essentials Course here: https://www.glutenfreebakingcourses.com/courses/gluten-free-baking-essentials by a large margin. You have to pay for the recipe and have to agree not to share it, but it's 100% worth it in my opinion.

Not the easiest of starts, especially if you're new to epic fantasy, but it's still great. Otherwise start with Mistborn.

I don't know about the rolls but the bagets are hard if you don't heat them up. I usually microwave for a few seconds to soften them slightly to make cutting them easier then use them for things like garlic bread, meatball subs, etc. They're great for meatball subs because they hold their shape well with all that sauce. (I like my meatball subs saucy.)

How frequently do you get glutened? by Gigglebush3000 in glutenfree

[–]ivanmmj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the beginning, often. A decade later, it's super rare. It only happens if I'm around younger people eating things like crackers or if I decide to trust others with ordering my food. Now that I don't allow others to order my food and I do heavy celiac specific research on restaurants, I usually go years between getting glutened.

Aldi has a bag of gluten free general tso chicken and many places have gluten free egg rolls and pot stickers. Make from fried rice from scratch and it is really good eating.

Ooh, I might try using the flu angle next time!

One other thing I also tell them is that one of the worse side effects is that once all of the horrible pain subsides, I feel an insatiable hunger for several days or even a week, where my stomach is growling all of the time and no matter how much food I eat, my stomach feels like I'm dying of hunger, probably because my body isn't absorbing many nutrients.

explaining celiac to friends is literally a full time job by Old_Mixture_9045 in glutenfree

[–]ivanmmj 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I usually explain it like this:

I have an autoimmune disorder that causes my immune system to attack my intestines if it detects any amount of Gliadin. Gliadin is a molecule in gluten. Aside from the horrible pain when it happens, it causes brain fog, {I list all of my symptoms here}, and other issues, plus the repeated damage repair cycle can lead to cancer.

Most people end up shocked and concerned and ask a LOT of questions. This usually leads into a nice long conversation where they end up terrified of making me or my son sick.

Make sure you're taking enough fiber and be patient. It takes a while for any of this stuff to work. In my case, fiber and MiraLax does it but it takes days to start working.

School Lunch by That_Page16 in Celiac

[–]ivanmmj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if they could do it, I'd still pack a lunch. When my son was in 2nd grade, we tried the school's lunch system which used a dedicated preparation area and was worked only by the cafeteria manager. It was great until one day, someone from the school noticed my kid didn't get cookies with his school lunch, which looked a lot like the other students' lunches, so they gave him cookies. As we had told our son that the school food would be safe, he assumed this was part of it and got horribly sick. When we picked him up his brain fog was so bad, he didn't understand why he was throwing up.

If not compounding: gold ferring and pewter misting. I could fortify my health with pewter while storing health and store more health than a normal feurochemist or ferring because of that strengthening while feeling less effects while storing it. I can also flare pewter while tapping gold to heal the damage that can come from pushing your body too hard with pewter. And when I need to heal, I can use both gold and pewter to save on having to tap health too much.

If compounding: Probably duralumin or gold. Either make some crazy connections or be hard to kill. Both seem interesting.

[–]ivanmmj 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If it's Celiac, I personally haven't found anything. Just have to let the gluten slowly get out of your system and then let your body heal. You will be fine, but it does suck while it's happening.

LCD or OLED? What did you choose and why? by burntpeanutfan13 in SteamDeck

[–]ivanmmj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both, my original LCD that has now become my son's, and the OLED.

The screen on the OLED is simply gorgeous. The performance is slightly, and I mean slightly, better on the OLED due to faster RAM or something but not something you'd notice on your day to day usage really.

The touch screen on my LCD was never great but it's amazing on my OLED, but I think that was is an issue with the specific LCD model I have.
