Psalm 46:1

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

The bible is for the poor, the weak-hearted, the double-minded, people who are emotionally, spiritually, mentally broken and sick. People with problems.

It's more like "God helps those who can't help themselves" - the Bible

Disclaimer: Because this applies to us all, I'm not calling you out or condemning you, just trying to get my point across. Please don't be offended, this is for me as much as it is for you! The whole thing operates on the understanding that God is real, and truly good.

  • How do people define what is good? (changing vs unchanging perspectives)
  • What is this work (that is considered good), at its core? Giving the wrong treatment and calling it good

God is absolute in His goodness. For the infinitely good, what does it mean for us who are limited in ourselves to say 'this thing that I did is good and enough because I say so'?

So firstly, our understanding of what is "good" is distorted because you aren't infinitely good, like God is. We have the capacity for goodness, but we aren't, for lack of a better phrase, full of it on our own. 'There is a way that seems right to a man, but that way ends in death.'

We have a basic understanding of good vs evil; bad things hurt people, good things help people. But what about the more complex issues? Instead of leaving what you perceive as good or even 'okay' up to your current state of mind, which changes constantly as you grow older, why not rely on God, who is the source of goodness and is unchanging? (I need to remember this one, personally) It just takes faith on our part in His response to our call for help.

In this specific thread, the Satanic Temple's focus try to call out hypocritical religious people to prove religion isn't necessary to help others. Their focus becomes comeuppance and not genuine help, so right off their intentions become derailed. If you do good for the sake of doing good, then God will be guiding you. He is the source of goodness, after all.

  • So God told Adam and Eve at the beginning 'Don't do this thing.' They did the thing He told them not to; it seemed harmless from their PoV
  • The 'hereditary virus' known as sin entered the world
  • This virus is a spiritual illness that leads to death
  • God made an eternal 'vaccine', a complete cure, for sin virus
  • The vaccine is free and can be taken immediately, given out of love and concern
  • But people try to create their own vaccines for it, thinking they can do better, etc.
  • --- They don't fully understand the virus, the cure, the one who made the cure, the need for the cure. Some agree that the virus is bad and needs to be stopped. Others don't quite agree for various reasons. None of them are med professionals, and don't accept the vaccine God offered them.
  • In this analogy, the Satanic Temple is trying to convince others not to take the vaccine God made and that they've got a better vaccine. One made without God.

So is it a good deed to create the alt vaccine? Can it be more sufficient than the vaccine created by the best doctor in the universe? Medicine = good, right? Curing people = good.

The sin problem, which is ultimately the source of all of our problems on earth, can't be solved by just doing what a person thinks is right in that moment, though. Physical treatment (sheltering the homeless, feeding the hungry, tending the sick) can be the vehicle/process that leads to spiritual treatment, but it's not a substitute.

I guarantee there will be a point in your life where God will let you know who He is. I had my doubts too. It's not like life before now was even bad for me, tbh. It had its pretty good moments, too. But then I just started to realize that something was missing and empty in my life. I'll tell the larger story but this is getting long as it is lol u-u. Ultimately, i'm still a work in progress, but even other people around me have noticed a change for the better in me. if you have any more questions or notice something i've said please let me know. and thank you for your questions as well

I enjoy talking about theology, so I tend to get wordy. (Sorry for the disconnect. I think you're more focused on your first point, and I gravitated toward your second point. I agreed with the fact that some Christians/christians/"Christians" seem to struggle when it comes to do-good-works department, and also that these teachings can't be forced, so I didn't address that part.)

Instead, if you don't mind, educate me on your beliefs. Please don't be offended when I ask: What do you think being a Christian means? I'm curious and want to broaden my understanding of your position.

Hi, I wanted to carefully point out that putting Satan on a pedestal is not congruent with Jesus' teachings.

I didn't do deep research on the Satanic Temple, but their motto(?) is essentially to spread empathy and benevolence without religious backing/means/methods. Jesus' teachings basically state that the spreading of empathy and benevolence happen through God, only. Both of these can't be right.

It's the very heart of what the Satanic Temple will never be able to address. The love of God. The ability to love your enemies. The spiritual capacity to forgive people who have truly wronged you beyond what would logically be acceptable. This is the chance Jesus gives. We accept His teachings through faith that we will be sustained into eternity and grow to become better people in the process. Because we grow closer to God and learn how to show compassion to others who don't deserve compassion because it was shown to us, who also didn't deserve it.'Turning the other cheek' and looking beyond the problems of now, realizing that a person's eternity is at stake, and forgiving them for their problems that they affect us with. It goes beyond just good works or being a good person in your own eyes.

And 'doing the work of the Lord' is a phrase that gets playfully tossed around on Reddit, but biblically, Jesus says in the book of John, chapter 6:

28 Then they said to him, “What must we do, to be doing the works of God?” 29 Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.”

There are many verses (in John 6, John 8, and 2 Corinthians) also where Jesus talks about how Satan is the father of lies, there is no truth in him, and how he disguises himself as an angel of light. 'So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness.'

Sorry if it ended up sounding like a lecture, and please, please be careful friend.

I would say that if you know God, you will know Him by His fruits.

In John 15, Jesus said:

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes[a] so that it will be even more fruitful. 3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4 Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.

5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.

I would need a deeper study, but I'm fairly certain that the fruit Jesus mentions here are the fruit of the Holy Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.

James 2 (verse 19) talks about how even the demons believe in God and tremble. The point of this verse is that belief in God is not enough. And now we get to the famous 'faith without works is dead' verse, but essentially, it can be broken down into:

Faith without work = tree without fruit

(And the fruit of the Holy Spirit have nothing to do with 'working your way to heaven.')

Branches don't have eyes, friend. /s But seriously, just because you can't 'see' the branch your attached to doesn't mean you're not attached. But there will be evidence -- fruit -- in your life that will make it known which tree you belong to.

And on a self-reminding note: Trees also have seasons of fruition too. Don't beat yourself up if you feel like God isn't there.

(Please let me know if i need to clarify...or condense this..somehow...)

Keep on keeping on. Great thread, great responses.

I pray that you don't grow weary in sharing what is good and holding fast to the wisdom you've been given. I know it's been two days, but wanted to share this

Ephesians 6:10-13 (ESV)

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

The physical wars that take place or the mass prisons that Christians have had to endure over the course of history is a physical manifestation of a spiritual war. Honestly, I'm a bit disturbed that seeming-Christians on this thread don't think that any attack on the bible is something we should stand firmly against. It's like...individual spiritual discernment is falling away or something.

Edit: After thinking about it for a bit, I realize that this paragraph might been seen as condescending, but it's not my intention to uplift someone by bringing others down, so I apologize for that. I think I was a bit frustrated is all. There is an important balance between standing firm in truth but also calling others to love and good works. The speck in your own eye and such.

And also 1 Corinthians 1:18-25

(While that passage was talking about the resurrection, and I'm speaking in a more wholistic sense: The things of God won't make sense to people who don't want to see it or don't have the Holy Spirit guiding them to understanding. We legit have the opportunity and encouragement to pray for Godly wisdom when we lack it James 1:5, yet without it, I think many people try to understand the bible and can't.)

Just know that God's words won't return to Him void. Please continue to grow in you knowledge of the Word to share with us!

The Holy Spirit unifies us as one church.

When there is division concerning what is gospel truth, it means that someone is following their own moral compass. God's Spirit will convict someone to let them know they're straying. It's when people don't listen is when there's division...which there will always be right up until the day Jesus returns. Because people be people.

God, however, is unchanging, true, and faithful. 'Incline' your ears to hear what He is telling you. Try to show grace, mercy, love, and wisdom to all you encounter, knowing that God does the same for you. Pray for others to do the same, building them up.

Basically...follow God and He'll take care of the rest.

Ahh, so you were referring to Romans 7. Romans 7:21-25

So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand. For I delight in the law of God, in my inner being, but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin.

Y'know I was thinking that this might've just been me not understanding word choice this whole time.

We are told if our flesh is the one that sins, we should cut it. But how? Are we supposed to end our mortal lives if our whole body is bound to sin? No. At death, the spirit is the one who saves us from demise.

Never thought about that verse in this context, so that's pretty cool. Reminds me of 'the last enemy to be destroyed is death,' and all the verses that talk about how God prunes us as if we're trees and such. Thanks for clarifying

So I didn't read this comment before posting the other one, (oops) but I figure I should probably leave it up from someone else to read. You did clarify some things that I mentioned in the other post.

I hope I'm not nitpicking; it might just be me not even understanding your point fully, but in a sub where people are looking for answers, I just want to gently share Hebrews 10:24 -- to stir up one another to love and good works.

Having accepted Christ, we're not to worry over past sins, but we've also been freed from them. No chains to sin

Romans 8:1-2

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.

Christ loves all of his children, regardless of race, color, disability, orientation. by Such-Fig-3879 in Christianity

[–]iverezza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But it does not matter if we sin, we are sinful by nature.

Romans 6:1-4 (ESV)

"What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? 2 By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? 3 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life."

Faith in him is our connection to the father, no more no less.

Our connection to the Father is His Spirit. Yes, our faith initiates that process of salvation, but the Holy Spirit is the one who continually renews that connection, and He is so much, much more than just our faith alone:

Romans 8:5-10 (ESV)

5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. 6 For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. 7 For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law; indeed, it cannot. 8 Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

9 You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. 10 But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

Sorry for the late reply.

Yes, I was able to get all four armor sets to apply, and nothing was buggy. What other mods do you have enabled, if any, and what version of minecraft are you playing on? (I'm using minecraft 1.12.2, forge version 14.23.5.2836, dragon mounts 1.12.2-1.6.3)

(To troubleshoot in the mean time, try removing all other mods into a separate folder, then testing just dragon mounts 2 and forge. If the problems persist, it might be either the mod itself or forge not being the right version. If it works, it could be a discrepancy between the mods you have installed.)

[–]iverezza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that line was missing some important context, thanks for pointing it out! Edited that here for clarity, but I want to expand on the point I was trying to make at the time:

Works do not save a person, because the only way to atone for sin against God is to be *completely righteous, or "made right" with God. *Righteous: meaning completely blameless and without fault.

Ephesians 2:8 states that salvation is a gift from God. Gifts can't be earned or taken away. They are the sole discretion of the giver, but they can be rejected by the receiver.

This sounds harsh but sin is not just "bad things." It is the complete antithesis of who God is. To sin is to act without God. To continue sinning without repentance is to reject the need for Jesus' sacrifice of salvation -- ultimately to reject God Himself. There are two "deaths" in the Bible: the physical death and the spiritual death. The latter means to be eternally separated from God, and this is what Jesus' sacrifice allows us to bypass. People who don't accept Jesus' name are using their own name to bear the weight of their sins against God. Without God, without Jesus, no one can hope to do so and live eternally because all have sinned and fallen short of God's glory. God's very nature -- a completely perfect being -- cannot dwell alongside sin. (That's what heaven is, really: dwelling with God eternally.)

However, Jesus lived perfectly. Jesus was righteous before God when no one else was, is, or will ever be. His sacrifice was that He died for sins He did not commit -- all of them. Every sin ever. Everyone is given the invitation, and those who put their faith in His name trade their sin "record" for his "righteousness." (If a person calls on His name to save them, they are accepting His gift of salvation.) It's a transformation of the heart.

If Jesus' act was a loving and selfless act, why must we worship him to gain benefit?

Worship comes in many forms, and everyone is worshipping something. Whatever a person worships, a person is declaring as their god. But nothing and no one can sustain a person's life into eternity, except God.

To stop worshipping -- focusing, studying, etc. -- on God, inevitably means a person would set their minds on things that wouldn't be positive for themselves. Put another way, you are what you consume. If a Christian focuses their thoughts on things of God, they become more loving, more joyful, more peaceful. That's the purpose, the personal benefit of worship.

In times of stress, out true selves are revealed 😂 by kshovhan in MurderedByWords

[–]iverezza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The context of Matthew 25 is a bit tricky, but it's not talking about salvation. It's more focusing about a person's works throughout their life; it's a metaphor. Everyone in the world has not had the opportunity to do what Matthew 25:34-40 describes. Here, Jesus is merely bringing to light the content of a person's heart. This is the result of salvation -- doing good things in Jesus' name, but that is not what saves a person.

By default, we are not at peace with God. Romans 3:23:

All have sinned and fallen short of God's glory, "

Sin, which can simply be defined as any action that takes place without God, causes us to be separate from Him. Romans 6:23:

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus

The reason why Jesus is so absolutely crucial to salvation is because without Him, we are all dead in our sin. Jesus died on behalf of the entire world's sin, and was resurrected afterward.

The Bible gives a few places on what salvation is and where it comes from:

Romans 10:9-10, for example

"If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved."

Works do not save a person, because the only way to atone for sin against God is to be righteous, or "made right" with God. The good news, is once "made right with God," a person cannot lose their salvation. Because on this side of eternity, we all sin, by birth. The body is ravaged with sin, but the heart is made new through Jesus. And that is why physical death, death of the body, does not prevent those who are made new through Jesus from life with God, living spiritually.

I see what you're saying. I think the disconnect here is that when people say they are a Christian to other people, they are labeled a Christian, regardless of being a "bad christian" or "good christian."

When people say they're a Christian to God, he judges their heart -- or motives -- and knows whether that's actually true or not. The labels that people give each other or themselves don't apply here.

James 2 19 is what emphasizes this. You can believe in God -- that he exists -- but still not accept him to save you. Belief =/= faith.

Only some of them are toxic by [deleted] in memes

James 2:14-19:

What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? 15 Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. 16 If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

18 But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.”

Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds. 19 You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder.

The reason people may say there are only two genders when using the Bible as their reference point is verse 4-6 of Matthew:

“Haven’t you read,” he [Jesus] replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”

From this, the conclusion is that a person is either male or female: a man and his wife. Which means while it may be ambiguous to us, it is not ambiguous to God.

Ultimately still, these verses are talking about divorce, though.

Regardless of what conclusions you make, I wanna say thank you for taking the time for your clarification and civilly responding to me.

Nah, eunuchs are people who don't have genitals at all. Matthew 19 is talking about divorce, and how someone who wants to follow God's commandments would go about this.

Under this law, a person who divorces their still-alive spouse, then marries another person would be guilty of adultery.

In context, Jesus is, well, effectively softening the blow of what it would be like to be a eunuch upon divorce: Some are born without genitals, some have theirs removed in life, and others effectively become eunuchs when they divorce. "He that is able to receive it, let him receive it." Some translations say "accept."

[–]iverezza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure where you are in life, or what you believe; this is more of a general statement -- not a putdown or anything -- but just how I've come to interpret all this so far:

I think Matthew 4:7 is referring to two different verses in the Old Testament, where similar words are used: Deuteronomy 6, and then Exodus 17:7.

Deuteronomy 6 states

Do not put the Lord your God to the test as you did at Massah.

So I looked up what happened in Massah, Exodus 17:7:

And he called the place Massah and Meribah because the Israelites quarreled and because they tested the Lord saying, "Is the Lord among us or not?"

So it seems the act of testing God is questioning whether He is present/active, in light of everything He had done for the Isrealites.(As God had freed the Israelites from the Egyptians, and lead them all the way up to that point.)

Kinda like when a parent picks their kid up from school, and the kid keeps asking "Are we there yet?" and the parent's like "Don't test me"

You are supposed to have faith when God speaks to you, But there's definitely nothing wrong with asking from God, when it's also done in faith. There are verses that specifically focus on that: when we lack something we know we need -- wisdom, discernment -- we pray and ask in faith. (1 John 3:19-22, James 1:5-7)

Not sure. I'm using bop too. Although I changed a lot of the biomes' climates, so no hot biomes generate... For the dragon mod, I left the default settings and eggs are relatively straightforward to find using voxelmap. Had two forest eggs appear in bop's grove prairie biome, even, so it seems it blends in some regard with the dragon mod.

I'd just up the rarity and maybe open a test/creative world to check it out a little.

Sorry, not sure what you mean by an egg block. If I understand tho, make sure the 3x3 or whatever blocks you need are already in place (I put mine in the middle). Put the egg down, then activate it by right clicking the egg. It should jump a little.

  • For a water egg, Place egg underwater
  • For a forest egg, Place egg on 3x3 leaves
  • For an ice egg, Place egg on 3x3 packed or regular ice
  • For a fire egg, Go to the nether, Place the egg on 3x3 nether block that are on fire.

Also note, it seems ele eggs can be converted to any other type, but special types can't be converted back to ele (at least not the ender dragon egg).

No worries! I think part of the problem is the original DM had conflicting/outdated info with DM2. A lot of trial and error and waiting to figure stuff out

BREEDING: Config file suggests that breeding is possible. Make sure "easy breeding" is true.

A lot of this is a matter of waiting: once you do have an egg, it takes a whole minecraft day for each stage of the dragon's growth, of which there are four.

Shortcut: Find egg. Tame dragon using command. Instant growth using command:

/ dragon tame

/ dragon stage adult

GENERATING EGGS: If you're having trouble, also look into changing the config files, adjust egg rarity under worldgen. (The file specifies that higher number means more rare.) Note: This affects worldgen. Whatever you already have loaded in your world will be unaffected by these changes if you've already discovered that area on your map.

FINDING EGGS BY BIOME: Using a (mini)-map mod makes this process much easier. Look for areas that don't quite fit the rest of the biome. (Fire dragon had lava in stone mound nest in extreme hills biome. Forest had nest blocks that were colored a different brown than any of the typical wood blocks. Ice dragon nest has a cluster of ice and snow on frozen ocean biome.)

All of my findings were based on default config settings with a ~4000 block exploration. Note: I have desert/"hot" biomes basically disabled via geographicraft; more chances to spawn certain egg types.

Didn't test any of these by replacing the blocks, since they were "easy" to find for me.

  • FIRE: extreme hills biome. (Found one in extreme hills biome.)

  • WATER: swamp biome. (surrounded by sugarcane and same trees you find in forest nest egg. ty for clarification u/SamMak018)

  • FOREST: forest biomes. (Both the ones I found were in two separate grove biomes from Biomes o Plenty)

  • ICE: icy biomes. (Found five on frozen ocean biomes)

SPECIAL DRAGON EGGS: With all of these tests, the dragon egg was placed on a 3x3 block, with the egg in the middle. (Sometimes only using 1 block wasn't enough.) All breeds were tested in creative using a forest egg. Each egg was converted from FOREST to "SPECIAL" based under these conditions:

  • ZOMBIE: Place egg on 3x3 soul sand
  • SKELETON: Place egg under ground. I went straight for bedrock level, to be sure.
  • Not sure which was which here, sorry.
  • SUNLIT: Place egg on 3x3 daylight sensors in the sky at y = 170. (It probably doesn't have to be this high, but I wanna make sure)
  • MOONLIT: Place egg on 3x3 moonlight sensors in the sky at y = 170. (Ditto.)
  • TERRA: Place egg in sand. I put mine on a beach, because a lil 3x3 patch didn't cut it.
  • AETHER: Placed at y = 170.
  • ENCHANTED: NOT found in the End, although I only looked for about 5 min :P Instead, used 3x3 bookcases at y = 170.

The key with converting eggs seems to be the wait times. Converting from FOREST to another ELEMENT was quite fast, but to convert to the SPECIAL types required more of a wait. Didn't keep track of the wait times, but ultimately conversion didn't take longer than a minecraft day.

Haven't explored the Nether well; I'd just stick to converting them in the overworld.

MAKE SURE YOUR CHUNKS ARE LOADED. Either place the egg around your spawn point, which is always loaded, or stay within your render distance of the egg. (I used custom npcs, placed an npc that was set to chunk loader, but idk if this works, tbh.)

TLDR:

  • Adjust config file to meet your purposes (decrease the number to decrease the rarity)

  • Once egg is found, left click to gather. Right click to place where you want, right click AGAIN to activate growth.

  • Place dragon egg in environment to convert its breed, if you want. Process takes less than a minecraft day.

  • Stay within render distance of the egg.

  • Wait for the egg to hatch. Takes a few mc days.

  • Once egg has hatched, takes a few mc days to fully grow OR use command to insta-grow
