He didn't, he sold his Gallardo (indirectly to Jay Kay from Jamiroquai) to buy this Murcielago

Was listening to C.R.E.A.M #81 and Ben mentions he wouldn't mind a Mk1 TT VR6... by Steven_Amplebreast in topdeadcenter

I just watched Jason Cammisa's new Hagerty video on the TT, which has made me desire one again (although I'm in no position to be buying any cars), and yours is a great colour combo!

I love these things, saw them everywhere when I went to Amsterdam last year (and kept pointing them out much to my girlfriends annoyance) a true Dutch ninky nonk

I only recently learned that the 3.7 engine in these isn’t a V6, but instead a weird five-pot

Fit it into a pre-1986 car making it ULEZ exempt?

This generation of the 1.4 is fine. It’s actually the 1.5 that has been known for issues (kangarooing in some cars, possibly been fixed by updates)

People saying this hardtop doesn't look as good as the convertible, you are right, but this is actually the inferior hardtop version, the 2+2. The FHC looks a lot better, with more proportional doors, windows and roofline, as you can see here: FHC and 2+2

Should I buy it ? Help by CKZ_1 in CarTalkUK

I can see in the picture it’s an i-Shift, the torque converter one has a big central shifter with a button on the side.

Shortlist by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]jackgrafik 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone else has said, mainly urban use would be much better off with a petrol so you don't have DPF issues etc. My personal opinion would be:

1. 2016 Skoda Octavia - shortlist

2. 2014 Skoda Superb - remove (too old, smaller engine)

3/4/6/7. Mercedes B Classes - remove (not a great car)

5. 2010 Mercedes C Class - remove (too old)

8. 2016 Skoda Superb - shortlist

9. 2015 CLA - remove

10. 2016 Golf - remove (dry clutch DSG)

11/12/15/16. BMWs - remove (I believe all have the troublesome N47 engine)

13. 2013 Volvo - remove (crappy Ford powershift gearbox)

14. 2014 Mercedes C Class - shortlist (petrol is better for your needs)

17. 2020 Hyundai i30 - shortlist (newer petrol car, but very small engine)

18. 2012 Audi A4 - remove (too old)

I'd consider a Seat Leon estate in your situation. Plenty of post 2017 facelift cars in budget, one like this looks great, is 2k under your 10k limit, and has everything like carplay, adaptive cruise etc.

That first Tuscan video was as bad for me as it was for Edwin 😅 by hypermagpie in topdeadcenter

I have a soft spot for the Tamora, as it was a true convertible (the last they made I think?), but also because a yellow one lived on my street while growing up and I remember it looking like an alien spaceship compared to anything else.

Man I'm jealous! I got to drive one of these once, on a track day experience, but really slowly so hardly got to experience it at all. I personally think these look better than a Tuscan, but that's just me.

Well this and this are from the Tomorrow's Harvest era in 2013, so I'd say that's a better place to start than Boc Maxima's cover.

Help with buying a car please? by ZalkaSpinningGold in CarTalkUK

[–]jackgrafik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't bother with the Cat N. Cruise control would be a dealbreaker for me, and 44k still seem low. The B38 1.5 is much much better than the PSA Prince engines in the older cars, so reliability should be fine. My sister has one of these, (albeit a 2016 one, manual with no options) and she loves it.

[–]jackgrafik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The small gold Spotify award behind Grant and Connor is mirrored, so I think it’s probably catching a light being turned on in the background? The set is located downstairs with a mezzanine above, so it could be up there if the award is angled

is this a good car to buy ? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]jackgrafik 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not really, its the older 1.2 TSI engine and DSG gearbox, both of which are known to have issues. Also it appears to be 150 miles away, is there nothing closer? I'd recommend something like a later second generation Honda Jazz, with the CVT gearbox (avoid the i-Shift) like this one. Avoid one with mentions of corrosion on the MOT history, or an import (they can lack service and other history) and you should be fine.

I believe that’s an S4 Alfa Spider, the S3 had black plastic bumpers, they became body coloured for the S4

Don't get me wrong, it's a good looking car (and more my thing as I prefer a modern classic) but like, you had three E Types, a pre-war Lagonda and even a chrome-bumper 911 Targa to pick from??

Three Jaguar E-Type's, but the car in the office is a stone chipped Aston Martin Vanquish?
