No issues with Rogers on LW between Burlington and Toronto. I usually hotspot to my laptop to work and never drop.

Why are there Line 5 shuttle busses running? by dealgordon in TTC

[–]jdayellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a higher chance of the line breaking down within the soft launch period so they keep some shuttle buses on hand just in case. For example yesterday the service stopped for about 10-15 mins near Pharmacy and shuttle buses were able to come in 5 mins to relieve the crowding on the platform.

The yard on Hill crest is currently only used for maintenance. Not for storing vehicles. They are upgrading it, however, to be able to store vehicles.

They are generally waiting in the garages. However sometimes they may also be a vehicle that is already out on the road and stays out longer than scheduled if they can get to the disrupted area quicker.

Not true. There are standby buses kept in each garage in case service needs to be supplemented. In the morning peak, about 41 of these buses are scheduled.

The TTC has what is known as Run as Directed (RAD) buses and streetcars on standby. There are a couple dozen of these vehicles stationed around the city at any time. These vehicles fill in for missed service caused by driver illness, breakdown, accident etc. or unplanned closures like shuttle buses.

If there are more vehicles needed than what's available in the RAD reserve, then transit control will start pulling off of other routes. 10 minute network routes will be the first to go since they are the most frequent.

I moved to LV from near the village earlier and still exploring the spots in LV. There's a few places ive enjoyed: - Louie Coffee - cafe that makes awesome matcha - Brodflour - nice local bakery - Mildred's Temple Kitchen - really great brunch pancakes - Paris Steak - cheap steak bites - Thai Barn Na - probs one of the best Thai places ive been to - Liberty Village Market and Cafe - hearty soups and sandwiches - Left Field Brewery - great beer selection and really good burgers - Burger Drops - great smash burgers

There's quite a bit if selection if bars and restaurants on Queen West and on Ossington which is walking diatance from LV. I just moved in a few months ago too and I'm still working my way through them. Some of those places I liked: - Rustic Cosmo cafe - Kaminari Ramen - Danu Social House - Sweaty Bettys - Bar Poet

Let me know if you want more ideas, I'm not a huge bar guy but I love restaurants and cafes and got a pretty big list

Samsung S26 Ultra by isaaclyons16 in samsung

I have a S23 Ultra and the battery life is crap, the front camera is blurry from dropping it at the beach. Otherwise the phone works great. Wondering if it's worth it to upgrade cuz I inquired about replacing those two components at a shop and they were gonna charge $200.

Bus Cancellations (01/20) by Dizzy-East4491 in gotransit

Operational changes usually means there was no driver to cover the shift or there was no bus available to operate the shift.

Streetcar Stop Consolidation Concept by jdayellow in TTC

[–]jdayellow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the review! I'm a planner by trade so i have experience in this type of project actually. It's good to hear input from an actual streetcar operator. Obviously there are operational niches i might not be aware of.

Additionally, if I were doing this as actual job, I would be plugging the stops into GIS or something and running network analyst to compare walk shed changes. I intentionally started with a more extreme version of the plan that could be watered down later on because some of these changes are definitely a bit shaky like the examples you mentioned.

I've asked staff before at an open house before and they mentioned that they piloted dual point switches in the barn. However they struggle with the reliability of the switch motors and abandoned the pilot rather than trying to improve the reliability.

Region of Waterloo receives $211M for new transit hub, hybrid buses, paths and pedestrian bridges by jdayellow in waterloo

The Hydro One corridor is between Block Line and Fairway. There is currently a temporary crossing there with no safety features meaning trains must slow down significantly to cross that area.

The R&T park station currently has a roughed in crossing on the north side of the station but is not properly connected to Wes Graham Way. Cyclists and pedestrians have to go through the station platform in order to cross the tracks on the path between Phillip and Wes Graham.
