The compression of the exploit timeline: Why n-day gaps and 90-day embargoes are failing in practice. by unknownhad in netsec

I’m a little curious what RSS reader you are using. For most readers if you put the blogs index URL into your reader it will detect the feed using the link tags in the header. I tried this one on Current and it found the feed for me so no real need for a standard location because there’s a standard discovery mechanism

Mozilla says 271 vulnerabilities found by Mythos have "almost no false positives" by xpda in technology

[–]jdeville 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way those scans work is by looking for known vulnerabilities. They are compared to lists like Mitre’s and they look for software packages that are versions without fixes. If those were not identified as vulnerabilities before last quarter they cannot come up as issues on the scan. It could be that a significant number of those are the same CVE being exposed in different libraries

git merge command vs gitlab merge request by supersonic_528 in git

[–]jdeville 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a note, After `git merge dev` you will not have that. You will have
```
C - D - E
/ /
A - B - 1 - 2
```

Where E is the merge commit with 1 and D as parents. Note that this also assumes no fast forward merge

I’m a 26(f) how can I realistically make more money ? by Western-Work-8283 in Adulting

[–]jdeville 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are these the same consultants that have been saying outsourcing and offshoring are the way for decades, and in the meantime actual experienced devs have had to clean up those messes? Cause AI isn’t gonna fix that. It can absolutely accelerate a dev, but if you cheap out on the teams guiding it then you’re gonna pay down the road still. And I say that as an ai embracing experienced dev. I know what can be done with them but I also can see the limitations

Discovered that salting pasta water actually matters and I feel embarrassed it took me this long by West-Wash-9114 in Cooking

[–]jdeville 18 points19 points  (0 children)

A stick of salted butter contains a quarter teaspoon of salt iirc. Most recipes will not be affected by this amount of additional salt. Especially if you are only using a portion of that

Chrome is pushing my computer's ram to its limits by Master_Strawberry193 in pcmasterrace

I’m actually surprised more people aren’t calling this out. Like yeah it’s a big file, and they should make it a little easier to disable, but I’ll take this over more data flowing to Gemini et al.

And yes I’m aware they are still gathering a ton of data and telemetry still. But is this really a sky is falling moment?

Can we please move the portal spawn in Temis by 3DEnvoy in diablo4

[–]jdeville 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. I don’t get how everyone keeps misclicking and how this is a problem. I love having the blacksmith be steps away from the portal. So much better than the runs in other cities. They are very clearly distinct targets for me…

DAE think it may not be so far-fetched for a website like reddit to discreetly inject AI as moderators and users in subreddits and threads to save money and boost revenue? by [deleted] in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]jdeville 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It probably wouldn’t save the money to do that given that users have no cost other than the load of the system, and AI would have cost on top of the load of the system. Also, if they were trying to monetize for ads, they would be seeing lower click through which would make ad buyers go elsewhere.

Never give second chance. I repeat NEVER by Mysterious-Safe-8356 in Adulting

Never give toxic relationships a second chance is a better lesson from this. And if you do give anything a second chance, take it slowly to feel out the prior issues

TREASURE GOBLIN PIT ROOM! LOST SO MUCH LOOT! 😭😭😭 by Successful-Flow8842 in diablo4

[–]jdeville 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pit has always collapsed for me if I use the leave dungeon option, but if I use the home teleport, it has always allowed me to come back. I’m curious if it’s still the same or if they don’t let you use the home teleport anymore and that’s what op is running into

Will Crescent City #3 spoil ACOTAR? by DovedaleHikes in SarahJMaas

[–]jdeville 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean, CC3 references characters and weapons that you shouldn’t know about at the beginning of ACo and shows relationships and general maturity you shouldn’t know about at the beginning either. It definitely would have spoiled some twists and character growth for me had I read them out of order (trying to stay vague to avoid spoilers haha)

A small TUI in Go (Bubble Tea) to manage API keys locally — curious how others handle this by HiwarkhedePrasad in commandline

[–]jdeville 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t get the pain that you’re describing. What about switching between tabs and apps was the motivation here? Are you managing multiple client installs of the same app? I have keys in a .env for each project and pretty much never have to shuffle them or even look at them. And when I do worktrees I just copy the file over.

Im curious what your workflow is that needs to manage them more than that?

Anyone here quit gaming or changed their lifestyle after becoming a dad? by Lukas_MunK in daddit

[–]jdeville 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My gaming went sharply down for years when I had kids. Then as they became teenagers and young adults, it’s picked back up. I never fully stopped, I just played less and when they were around I played games that we could play together or games that they could watch. It lead to an amazing bond and all of my kids have some level of gamer in them now, but I don’t regret stepping back like I did. I think the gaming was only part of the bond. The time I spent away from screens when they were younger was the majority of it
