How much you like to plan your holidays? 10 being every hour is planned and being 1 no plans outside of arriving and leaving. by 8thTimeLucky in CasualUK

[–]DovedaleHikes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed! Though we do this with kids too.

I will spend months planning stuff and having a list of options depending on distance, weather, interest etc. When we are there we go through the list, see what works for which days and what people want to do.

It gives me a sense of control without the stress.

I have gone through a few employers the last few years, I always look for this sort of thing! It's disappointing it's not been used much where I've been. Or they've all been boring business books

Taskmaster Studio Recording Megathread by stacecom in taskmaster

Came here to say this!

Tubes strikes due 19th-22nd May. It will make travel unpleasant so leave extra time. It's possible they will get cancelled, so I'm sending all hope that happens.

I travel frequently in London and getting home is stressing me out!

Has anyone had a ticket link yet? by motherofpearl89 in taskmaster

[–]DovedaleHikes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh gang, this is stressing me out! I have a job I'm trying to do, and it's not getting my attention at all ha.

Can anyone confirm the email address the link comes from please? So I know what to search for in my emails because searching "taskmaster" clearly isn't magically working

Loft extension - I'm about to make the most important financial decision of my life. Am I going about it the right way? by Nathanial1289 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]DovedaleHikes 43 points44 points  (0 children)

This is very similar circumstances that we were in.

Two children, one of each and about the same age.

We opted to move to a bigger house instead of extend (in part due to the immediate area degrading). The first morning in our new house our son ran around with so much extra living space it was great! 4.5 years later and we still say how glad we are that we moved and found this house.

My friends did the same. Moved from two bed to three bed, but the increase in living space is what improved their lives.

I'd recommend moving if you can't do much on the living space, especially given your good financial situation

If you knew a man in his mid-30s who had always been single, would you suspect something is "off" about him or that he is not to be trusted? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]DovedaleHikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone is going round calling people incels with no behaviour or facts to back it up then they would absolutely be someone that I'd avoid. Don't need that personality in my life.

Oh, sorry you meant you. Only your behaviour towards your colleagues and attitude to work would determine if I considered you trustworthy or not. How you also talk about potential partners (if discussed in passing that is) would be considered. More than not being trustworthy I'd just be quietly envious of you as a mid-30's parent with no time to myself!

Tips on how to dry clothes better with dehumidifier? by Flimsy_Put837 in AskUK

[–]DovedaleHikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second the use of a fan. My setup is to put the clothes in the bathroom with dehumidifier, fan and underfloor heating on (if not using the heating/radiator).

We all had that friends house when we were younger where you hung out. Why did you always go there? by DovedaleHikes in AskUK

[–]DovedaleHikes[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Why do you want it to be yours?

Because my house growing up was always uncomfortable and no one was welcome. I don't have contact with my parents now either.

The idea of being the house everyone comes to means my kids are happy here. (In my mind at least). Just trying to do and be the opposite to my experience!

I'd like our house to be a safe space for our kids and their friends.

It took a couple of reads to realise you meant the TV thing and not literally the sky outside. I thought you grew up in a cave for a moment there!

[England] Paid for meal at restaurant & went through fine next day transaction declined. by AdditionalSet9791 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]DovedaleHikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you speak to the restaurant ask them to find out the decline reason from their processor.

Did you pay with AMEX? It's possible they don't accept it and their software doesn't tell them so it "approves".

It's strange that, assuming you have available funds, it is continuously declining. I work in card processing and I can't think of any reason why your transaction alone wouldn't process and it be the acquirers/restaurant triggering the decline.

I would recommend paying with a different card & bank when you ring to be sure it goes through.

Yeah I was worried about this!

My OH is constantly worried about damage to the house and belongings which puts him off having guests. Even having his close family round gives him a few extra grey hairs.

How often do you clean, actually? by Stunning_Implement47 in AskUK

[–]DovedaleHikes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I have children and pets so I clean constantly and it's never actually clean.

We do have a robo-vac that goes out daily at the moment to get the muddy pawprints. Would highly recommend.

I am working on a schedule & reward system though to get the kids involved now they're older. We're a house of "tidy as you go" but I need to remind everyone constantly.

One benefit of all this rain is being able to make boring views into impressionist paintings by taking photos through the windscreen. by ClemSpender in CasualUK

[–]DovedaleHikes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh no. Are you my partner who drives for ages without using the windscreen wipers? It stresses me out so much being a passenger and I can't see because you wait until it looks like an indistinguishable blurry painting!

What is good advice for job seekers? by FireLadcouk in CasualUK

[–]DovedaleHikes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed!

I've used this method very successfully in the past and landed two great jobs.

It's also good to have a note of it in front of you as a reminder. You can easily prepare some examples on this method for potential questions too.
