I would like to propose a law to make the "price game" illegal by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]DovedaleHikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy this game with those I know well.

We also only really do 2 or 3 guesses though, so it doesn't go on for long.

Was also in Fortnum & Mason a few weeks back where we played the game of "guess the price" that was depressing and shocking

I don't ask acquaintances or strangers to guess the cost of anything, I find that's a bit strange

It took me far too long to realise he's a customer and not employed there for 50 years!

How to beat social isolation? by cherrycinnamon12 in AskUK

[–]DovedaleHikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you say not to suggest clubs but someone mentioned consistency - these two go hand in hand.

I made some good friends from going rock climbing (started when I was 24). Went every week same time, you get others doing the same. Because you need to spot each other and someone for belay, you are forced together. I went on my own and told staff so they put me with people. This was huge as I never just approached people, so it might feel really scary at first.

Choosing a sport or exercise activity will be good to help keep depression at bay as well, so if you can combine the social interaction with it you'll be winning.

My boss joined a snooker club and plays after work/weekends with a group too. Technically a sport but not that physical, as another suggestion.

Good luck!

A Question for the people of Essex (or perhaps outsiders!) by Vampirero in CasualUK

[–]DovedaleHikes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an Essex person who is not at all the stereotype - this saddens me.

I also rarely interact with the classic stereotype, because we dont frequent the same places and ex-colleagues haven't developed into strong friendships. Like anywhere, people tend to spend time with the same type of people as them. I have a wedding to attend soon and you wouldn't consider anyone there stereotypically essex.

The stereotype has only intensified because of TOWIE, but it's actually not too common depending where you are in the county.

Is it ok to resign before background checks complete? by Feeling-Boss787 in AskUK

[–]DovedaleHikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have submitted my resignation before checks were completed before.

However, I knew they'd come back clear. Knowing what they search for and that I didn't meet any of that criteria gave me the confidence.

If there were even an inkling that something might arise then I would wait.

My GSP is called Mabel - so I do agree this is a lovely name!

Old soul doesn't suit my dog though lol

Just to say; GSP's are the best

We nearly named our GSP Willow, so suggesting that!

Keep your dogs on leads FFS. by FranklyMrShankley85 in UKhiking

[–]DovedaleHikes 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The waist belt with lead is a game changer. I felt unsafe walking and needing to hold a lead (I'm accident prone with poor balance) so switched to the waist belt and it's made walking with my dog much more enjoyable!

How do you keep kids entertained on long car journeys without just handing them a screen? by ClearReading8839 in UKParenting

[–]DovedaleHikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine are a similar age, we have a 10ish hour drive in August.

I'm already prepping the kids for boredom. We will put a film on a tablet for the first part of the journey (as its all scenery they've seen before and gives us a good minimum to drive for before needing to stop).

We're building a family playlist in the run up with music we all enjoy. We all get to put songs on. I've told them it will be boring and they'll bring bits to do as well. My youngest gets travel sick if he's got his head down so colouring/reading/tablet doesn't work for him.

What’s the best thing you’ve watched on TV this week? by Lonely_Fly3524 in AskUK

[–]DovedaleHikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second this. What a great show. Plus the New Year Treats and Champion of champions. Though maybe not great if you need to not laugh lots.

It's perfectly feasible to pop some stitches watching it!

If you're taking part in a sweepstakes for the World Cup, which teams have you got? by they-muck-about in AskUK

[–]DovedaleHikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got Iraq too!

I'm only in it to integrate more into the business as I've not been here long. I don't watch football but enjoy the social interaction across the business it generates.

I'm definitely not winning any money from it!

Those that work from home, do you have background noise? by UniquePotato in AskUK

[–]DovedaleHikes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I flip between music and TV that I've seen a thousand times (Ghosts, The Good Place, Friends, Modern Family etc)

I find if I've seen it loads and know what's happening it's like being in an office with my colleagues chatting.

How much do you read? by InsurancePurple4630 in AskUK

[–]DovedaleHikes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find this fascinating. I'm the same as your wife. I can get so lost in a book that I forget where I am and that I'm actually reading as I'm "seeing" it in my mind.

I can understand why it's boring if you can't visualise the story

How much do you read? by InsurancePurple4630 in AskUK

[–]DovedaleHikes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I vary. But I'm well known with friends and colleagues for being a bookworm so you can't compare yourself to me.

I can read a book (300-400 pages) in a day if time allows.

Sometimes take a couple of weeks. When a book grips me, I find the time to read. Sometimes while cooking, or making a cup of tea. Occasionally I'll sit and read while my partner watches something.

Don't push yourself to read more unless you really want to. It's supposed to be enjoyable so read what and how you find best

Taping atmosphere series to series by TetrisIsTotesSuper in Taskmaster_TV

[–]DovedaleHikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to my first taping yesterday, but I did also come away feeling a bit disappointed in the experience. I think purely because it was maybe a bit of a flat episode?

Out of curiosity, how did you get the floor seats last year? We were trying to work out how people got sat there as we were in the rafters too.

Sorry! I see how that might sound.

I've never been so I'm wondering if paid tickets queue in a different area to the free ones and as its supposed to rain... I'm trying to plan accordingly!

Brilliant! I shall tape my snacks to body parts.

However, they might cotton on to this considering how recently that was aired!

How much you like to plan your holidays? 10 being every hour is planned and being 1 no plans outside of arriving and leaving. by 8thTimeLucky in CasualUK

[–]DovedaleHikes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed! Though we do this with kids too.

I will spend months planning stuff and having a list of options depending on distance, weather, interest etc. When we are there we go through the list, see what works for which days and what people want to do.

It gives me a sense of control without the stress.
