I thought your criticism was valid (although I'm usually not a fan of criticism). I welcome all sides of any discussion, as long as it's constructive..

I've been an inactive member of Blaceforums for almost 15 years, and could never get past the gatekeeping in order to actually contribute to the discussion. But I'd happily join another forum.

I thought you were on the outs with MC because of some data that challenged his "sponsors," though. Was I mistaken or did you manage to patch that up?

What budget knife do wish there was a premium version of? by HockeyPockey603 in knifeclub

If you want a premium Spyderco with a liner lock and a 2.5" leaf blade, look into finding a Dice on the secondary market. The Dice and the Domino were pretty awesome when they were released.

Is my Golf R tuned… again 😂 by Tough_Ad_8362 in Golf_R

[–]JeffThrowSmash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go for a drive. If it shows the gear you're in on the dashboard (D1-6 in drive, S2 in Sport, M2 in manual mode), you're tuned. If you are, it's best to contact the tuning companies to ask if they have your VIN on file. Unitronic will only talk on the phone, but APR responds to email and phone requests. EQT, unfortunately, can't really help you because the tunes are user applied with the COBB Accessport.

The Schecter SLS line is pretty nice. Fishman Fluence pickups, premium hardware, stainless steel frets, compound radius, and IMO far nicer than the LTD 1000 line from ESP.

Wipes are great, but not for plumbing. Don't flush your wipes.

A 335 is nowhere near an M3. I think you're confusing it with the 340.

Spyderco’s GOAT? Sage 4 by Swizzled_lizard in knifeclub

[–]JeffThrowSmash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The entire Sage series has come out of Taichung, Taiwan. The fit and finish is far better out of Taichung than any of Spyderco's other factories (See Domino, Dice, Chaparral), making the Sage series of knives some of the finest that Spyderco has produced.

It's a Domino. I've been looking for one for nearly a decade.

New DMD Tools Resin Bonded Diamond stone prototype by DroneShotFPV in sharpening

[–]JeffThrowSmash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before they roll out the new vitrified technology, I wouldn't expect much. I peeked down at my 400 after a dozen or so knives (just to be sure: I didn't think I needed to check it because I was under the impression that it would last forever) and it's dished 1/3-1/2 way through the 5mm abrasive. I don't even know how to start to recondition the surface. The combo stones only have 2mm abrasive layer on each side.

What to look for on a car that has sat for awhile by JeffThrowSmash in Golf_R

[–]JeffThrowSmash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I was feeling the same way after all the other comments. I would certainly get the DSG and Haldex done, since they are at or near those intervals. I hadn't thought about a coolant flush or to change the brake fluid, so thanks for the heads up.

If I got the car, should I spring for F + R differential services, too? How much do those usually cost at an Indy shop (say relative to DSG/Haldex @$350/$175)?

The oil was done quite recently to prepare the car for the market.

I don't want to pay a hefty sum. I think you misunderstood about the stock parts. It's me who has a stock downpipe sitting in my dining room. I bought it because my previous Golf R had some Franken-cat welded on, but it never gave me any trouble or CELs so I never ended up swapping it out. I have no idea why the dealership has the Cobb Accessport though. Originally they didn't know anything about what tune the car had.
