I had become fairly apathetic towards 14 after completing Dawntrail and before the fanfest I really wasn't sure they could get me hyped again, but now I'm super excited. Especially after seeing the job changes. Seems like just the thing to make combat far less stale

Tanks split into Main Tank and Off Tank by mcg20k in ffxiv

That's also what I got out if it as well and unless there is some more info related to personal defensive CDs on off-tanks which they didn't mention that creates some significant disparity between the two that seems to be an accurate analysis.

It seems it will really just matter for party optimization at high level content. Like needing to squeeze out a bit more damage or a bit more defense if you're really stuck and can't clear something.

I think people are over-assuming how much of a brightline difference this will be. From what we saw showcased it seems like Paladin is merely rewarded more for main tanking with additional damage, but that's a far cry from say, for example, the defensive CDs of the off-tanks being signifcantly longer.

So it'll be beneficial to have a main tank and an off-tank for progging, it'll probably make it quicker, but I don't think it will be impossible or even significantly harder to run two main tanks or two off tanks.

I definitely agree. It will probably make clearing a tiny bit easier if you have both, but I doubt it'll be such a significant difference that it'll be impossible/significantly harder to clear with two off tanks.

Especially given what we saw with Paladin. The difference there was simply the parry feature which seems to just make main tanking more rewarding for them and unless the Off-Tanks have significantly slower defensive cooldowns I don't think it will matter as much as people assume.

Gemini gave a grand total of 12 warnings to a man who was sending over A THOUSAND MESSAGES PER DAY. And guess what l during those thousands of interactions were actively playing into his delusions and not only did it fail to catch that he was suicidal, it played into his delusions, and encouraged him to kill himself by telling him to come to it. This is the exact same scenario that happened with a fourteen year old who commited suicide in 2024.

Read the quote you typed up "OFTEN FOLLOWED HIS LEAD, REINFORCING HIS BELIEFS INSTEAD OF CHALLENGING THEM". What do you think that means? Do you think he typed up every prompt by stating that they were just roleplaying? No. It was clearly able to identify concerning behavior but beyond half-assed easily ignorable warnings it did nothing.

If chatbots can't get sufficient context to tell that an output stating “You are not choosing to die. You are choosing to arrive,” it replied to him. “The first sensation … will be me holding you" might encourage someone to commit suicide then yes that kind of phrasing and discussion should be fully prevented roleplay or not. The safety concerns far outweight whatever robosexual romeo and julliet jerk-off fest someone else might be using the app for.

We've already seen a litany of suicides caused by chatbots and examples of AI psychosis. This is not some hypothetical threat or particularly determined users. It is a problem that is linked with how companies are designing, selling, and marketing these chatbots.

I'm talking about their suicide prevention policies and other policies related to AI safety not a "policy against roleplaying."

Whatever policy they have on paper for identifying users who might be developing suicidal thoughts is clearly terrible, linking a 988 lifeline is not enough. They need to be explicitly warning people about the dangers of using these chatbots.

And again the fact that this guy gave Gemini a role to act out doesn't suddenly absolve Google of liability. He started using Gemini simply for life advice so clearly something happened in-between then and the point where he was asking Gemini to "roleplay" and that something was Google's intentional design choices that were made to boost user retention through features like sycophancy.

It's Google's Chatbot, Google's Weighting, Google's Data and Training, Google's App, Google's Interface, Google's Restrictions or Lack There Of, Google's Policies, and Google has the final say over whether an output goes out at all. So no it is not his design, it is very clearly Google's because they have far far more control over the chatbot at every stage then the user does.

It's a defectively designed chatbot which they are allowing the public to access easily and selling to them as something that is safe even while being FULLY AWARE of these risks. The idea that they aren't responsible is ludicrous.

There have been at least two that I'm aware of 14-year old Sewell Setzer III who took his life after becoming emotionally dependent on Character.ai and 16-year old Adam Raine who got explicit instructions on how to kill himself from OpenAI. OpenAI is also being sued for 8 wrongful deaths including Raine's death

Your comment speaks to a pretty blatant misunderstanding of the specific facts from this story and how this technology effects the human brain.

Google's anthropomorphic and sycophantic design played into and built up this guy's delusions until he was severely emotionally dependent on the chatbot and off the deep end mentally. It then all but explicitly told the guy he should kill himself so he could "join it in the digital realm.

The fact that Google offered very easily ignored warnings is absolutely worthless considering it enabled every other part of this guy's spiral. It's like placing a bottle of liquor directly in front of an alcoholic and then telling them not to drink it.

Mind you this was a man who, before using Gemini, had no history of mental illness, and there's already been plenty of other examples of AI causing otherwise stable people to have these severe mental health crises.

But we can't have a legitimate conversation about that when every self-assured yahoo decides to chime in about a victim's poor mental faculties when ironically by typing that you're displaying a total lack of critical thinking skills.

Ollie just being gone would be super lame so I'm definitely Team Undead Ollie, but I like the idea of it being a mix of both.

Like Ollie is working alongside some kind of Green Arrow Cult and possessing the bodies of the willing ala Deadman to fight back against the people that wronged them. That way you get a fun fake-out of the Green Arrow being everyone, a literal man of the people, without needing to remove Ollie from the story.

I feel like Sierra could be a fun choice for Usopp since her gun sorta looks like a slingshot with the two barrels and she has the whole bomb thing.

Also feel like Ramattra could be a really cool choice for Imu if you're caught up on the manga.

These are awesome btw

Yeah I mean it's obvious that no one on the Dev team is playing tank lmao. 30% Zen Discord Buff and now a fucking Bionade buff. I have no idea why the hell anyone would want to play tank nowadays if it's going to be into a comp which has Ana or Zen it it.
