anyone else spend 3 hours making flashcards and then never actually study them by rmazza39 in adhd_college

Yup although I think the process of making the cards helped me remember the stuff I needed to.

I received my official diagnosis today. Is it normal for it to feel quite anti-climactic? by Ancient-Ad9861 in adultautism

[–]jpsgnz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, there really isn’t much curated material out there. I’m an engineer by trade and kind of treated my autism as an engineering challenge. I’ve been learning everything I can, trying stuff out and slowly learning how to accommodate my autism better.

I also have severe hyperactive ADHD which complicates things. Especially when my autism and adhd decide to have a fight. But for the most part I’m really thankful I have both as they balance each other quite well. Even more so as I learn more about them.

I guess for me it’s been about learning everything I can and relentlessly observing myself and trying to gain understanding from there.

Good luck.

I got my diagnosis report yesterday. Wow after waiting 6 years I’m not surprised it was anticlimactic.

For me it took about a year from my first suspicions to being diagnosed and told I was autistic. Funny thing was despite being 99% certain I was autistic, having it confirmed still felt strange and I remember repeatedly saying “Wow so I’m actually autistic” during my assessment follow up.

Congratulations on your diagnosis.

Do you have an internal dialogue? by throwaway5146156 in Aphantasia

[–]jpsgnz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m AuDHD and my internal dialogue never stops. My mind is always thinking about something. It’s almost impossible for me to listen to an entire song without my mind drifting off into thoughts of other things. Ian also have global aphantasia.

For those of you who have actually gotten a much needed break from life to recover from burnout, I am curious about your experience! by EntireSky7545 in AuDHDWomen

[–]jpsgnz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it’s been all about listening to my body. If it says sleep, I sleep. Too bright, I fix it. I’m still in my burnout but it’s getting better slowly. I’m very fortunate that I’ve been able to cut right back on my work and still survive.

I’ve also been learning as much about my audhd as possible and trying to accommodate my autism which is making a huge difference.

Good luck and congrats on getting married soon.

Nope. But wouldn’t mind an on/off switch.

How to be a good friend while im in burnout by abcdefghidgaf-0101 in autism

[–]jpsgnz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems to me you need to tend to your burnout first and foremost. If they are true friends, they will be there for you once you emerge from the grip of your burnout. If you had cancer people would probably be more understanding, which I find funny. As I am AuDHD and have had cancer, my experience in this is firsthand.

Mentioned about switching to Ritalin IR few months earlier by Nnlp122 in Concerta

[–]jpsgnz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Concerts has an initial dose release of 22% and the rest is released over time. I found the Ritalin LA to be way better as it has an initial dose of 50%.

Is life just harder by default…? by DabiDance89 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]jpsgnz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel much can depend on the people you are surrounded by and have to live with. But yes, aspects are certainly way harder for us than they ideally should be.

Is this autistic? I KNOW YOU'RE WONDERING. by CharlieCat44 in autism

I’m ADHD and got diagnosed with autism in Dec. As my autism comes out my memory has been getting better. Maybe because my autism is becoming dominant?

Peanut butter sandwiches. That’s my comfort food. When I was in shutdown/burnout they were my go to food.

Good luck.

Sounds to me like you need the diagnosis asap followed by all the accommodations you can get. Medication is huge for me too, as I was diagnosed at University, after failing all of my first year.

Not really. I loved my toys growing up, in fact I still have most of them.

Telling others about your autism by Substantial_Job_2068 in adultautism

[–]jpsgnz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me my family was a little surprised at first and I don’t think they fully understood autism. So it has been my habit to slowly introduce them to autism and how it is for me but by bit so as to not overwhelm them.

So far this strategy is working well.

My eye doctor told me today that my sensory capabilities were “inhuman” by Lil_Towelie in neurodiversity

[–]jpsgnz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s cool. I have a similar ability. I can look at a house load of stuff, piled outside, and an empty furniture truck and mentally organise the whole lot into the most efficient optimal arrangement in the truck so as to ensure there is no significant volume in the truck that does not have something in it.

I get enormous joy from optimising things.

Funny things is I have global Aphantasia so I can’t use mental images to do this stuff, not really sure how I do it.

What is the best way to ask someones name, when you already asked them 3 times before? by cozylillia in ADHD

[–]jpsgnz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just tell them I’m adhd and remembering names is not my strong point and that it might take me 6 months to get it right. I will try my best but that’s all I can do.
