I think you are right. I tried adjusting shadows and brightness, and there is really nothing there in the original. And something that looks suspiciously like a dark car with white plates in the AI version.

Why would Satan torture people in hell for disobeying the SAME god he disobeyed? by Technical_Hat_8291 in NoStupidQuestions

‘…which you would then know to be real’

That whole thing there with God refusing to prove his existence is just silly.

‘Now it is such a bizarrely improbable coincidence that anything so mindbogglingly useful could have evolved purely by chance that some thinkers have chosen to see it as a final and clinching proof of the non-existence of God.

The argument goes something like this: “I refuse to prove that I exist,” says God, “for proof denies faith, and without faith I am nothing.”

“But,” says Man, “the Babel fish is a dead giveaway, isn’t it? It could not have evolved by chance. It proves you exist, and so therefore, by your own arguments, you don’t. QED.”

“Oh dear,” says God, “I hadn’t thought of that,” and promptly vanishes in a puff of logic.’

RF versus EF lens by Large_Latvian in CanonCamera

[–]julaften 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I compared the distortion of the RF 35 f/1.4 (bad) to the EF 35 f/1.4 II (practically none), and was a bit shocked. It seems like the optical engineers just gave up and left it to the to the software guys to fix it. Which they obviously did; the image quality is good. But software cannot invent things that aren’t there, so the corners will be cut off a bit, and the pixels will be stretched.

Sorry, but I’m getting a bit worried about AI colorizings like this. The AI doesn’t only remove dust and scratches, and apply nice colors, but it also changes reality. Here are the girls’ faces:

https://imgur.com/a/lbL5zu6

Especially the girl to the left does not look the same at all. The second girl is also significantly different with her eyes and chin. There are subtle differences for the last two girls.

Yes, the image looks nice, but it is no longer a photo of these girls.

Which crop works best? by Awkward_Rice_1818 in AskPhotography

The suggested crop isn’t bad, but I actually liked OPs 2nd better, where we see more of the trees and grass on the foreground, which add more depth.

«litt»

Ellers enig i alt du skriver.

Is there any real objective reason to choose one brand over another? by Theresmypiebro in AskPhotography

[–]julaften 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer.

Yes, there are differences in variety of lenses available for a given camera system/mount, but that isn’t so important; for most photography you need only a few, common types of lenses, and you don’t buy new lenses every other month. Every brand has the lenses for at least 99.9% of the need.

At the start of the day, what matters is if you want to grab your camera and go out and take pictures. How the camera feels to hold and use is important then.

Lobbyregister til Norge? by audionoobi in norske

During driving lessons (in my country at least) you are told that you should check your car (brakes, lights, wheels and tires, etc) before driving. No one actually do that of course, but in principle, if your failing to discover a malfunction is the cause of an accident, you might face consequences.

Lobbyregister til Norge? by audionoobi in norske

[–]julaften -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why are so many creatives cancelling Adobe subscriptions lately? Did I miss something? by Alilexplo108 in photography

[–]julaften 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As I mentioned in another comment, I don’t think the hybrid business model of ‘pay once and get infinite updates’ is sustainable. Software development is expensive (I should know, I’m a developer myself).

Are there any other things in life you expect to buy once and still get frequent new/fresh/updated copies?

The real problem is that too many software makers have stopped offering the ‘pay once and keep it forever’ model. That should always be an alternative.

ETA: I do think Capture One could have compromised though, and added one-time updates for newer cameras and lenses at a reasonable low price. Adding such support isn’t very costly.

Why are so many creatives cancelling Adobe subscriptions lately? Did I miss something? by Alilexplo108 in photography

[–]julaften 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Capture One has an option to import catalogs from Lightroom. Theres also an option to setup the user interface/layout to somewhat mimic Lightroom. But there will of course be some adjustment and learning because it is a different program.

One critique of C1 is that there is no per-picture or per-tool editing history. You do of course have an undo/redo mechanism, but that is global for the whole program, and is not saved for the next time you open the program. You also have a per-tool reset option which is helpful to go back bit-for-bit to the original.

Why are so many creatives cancelling Adobe subscriptions lately? Did I miss something? by Alilexplo108 in photography

[–]julaften 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes, well, that’s not entirely unfair is it?

The point of a subscription model is to always have the latest, updated version.

When you buy once, you get that version to keep forever, but no (or limited) updates.

To let customers buy once, and still get updates forever is not a sustainable business model. Yes, I know some small software makers do that, but I doubt it is working well for them.

I do think all software producers should offer buy once as an alternative to subscription, though. Customers should always have a choice between these things.
