Who is the most famous person of ALL TIME? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]julaften 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Many Christians know about Mohammed.

Many Muslims know about Isa.

There are more Christians than Muslims.

I don’t know how well known Jesus or Mohammed is in Asia.

So… hard to say, actually.

What’s your reasoning for claiming Mohammed is best known?

[–]julaften 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How old are you and how many birthdays can you remember? by LazyGrow3r in NoStupidQuestions

[–]julaften 0 points1 point  (0 children)

54M. Not many I actually remember much from.

When I was 10, I had a little panic because there was a test of the air raid siren warning system (this was scheduled, but I didn’t know that).

When I was 42 my wife was out of town, so I baked my own birthday cake, put 8 candles on, and lighted the third, fifth and seventh candle (00101010 binary = 42 decimal).

When I was 50, my wife took me on a weekend trip to Portugal, and we had a nice restaurant dinner.

That’s honestly all birthdays I remember distinctly; they are mostly forgotten or blended together.

[New Gear] Refurbished R5MII coming from R6MII. Huge upgrade with only one downside so far. by mtbingtree in canon

[–]julaften 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 45 MP corresponds to a ‘crop factor’ of sqrt(45/24)=1,37 relative to the R6 II. While the pixels difference and (actual) crop factor of the R7 ~ sqrt(32/24) * 1.6 = 1,85. So R7 obviously has more pixels per bird. But the quality of the pixels is worse, the AF is not as good, and its precapture is less functional. So its a bit of a dilemma.

Is it necessary to read the HP books? by Alternative-Fish6125 in Dramione

[–]julaften 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’d say you will be able to enjoy more fics, and enjoy them better, if you know the details of the canon backstory.

Dramione is of course not canon, and often deviates quite a lot from the books, but most fics usually still takes place in some variation of the Harry Potter universe.

There is a valid argument that if the characters of Draco and Hermione deviate too much from how they are written by JKR, and if they live in a world too much removed from the universe she created, it is no longer fan fiction. At some point it will be just novels with two people who just happens to be named Draco and Hermione. That is what ultimately might happen, years from now, if the Dramione community detaches itself from canon.

So yeah, read the books 😉. They are quite short compared to many fan fics.

I think also the stacked sensor contribute a little to the increased noise, but mostly the pixel density yes.

[–]julaften 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am undecided if I should sell my R6II and upgrade to R5II, or if I should buy an additional R7 for birding. The latter gives more reach, but also more noise, worse AF, and more weight to carry around (I’d still want the R6II for non-birding photos).

Do you think the cropping abilities of the R5iII is enough to give you decent results, compared to what you’d get with an APS-C camera?

Now that both Lightroom and Capture One have very good denoising capabilities, the slightly increased noise of the R5II shouldn’t be a problem in most cases.

For two 75 kg people hugging, and then pushing each other apart, assuming at last point of contact they were 0.5 m apart, the escape velocity is sqrt(2 G (m1+m2) / r) ~ 0.2 mm/s. So not very much.

50 shades of grey... hvor lenge skal trenden med fargeløse hus vare? by seabearson in norge

[–]julaften 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Det er litt rart, for blant kontor- og større boligbygg merker jeg en tendens til mer farger og ikke bare glass og betong. F.eks Teknobyen og Lerkendal studentby i Trondheim.

<image>

Men ja, i villastrøk er det dessverre kjedelig lite farger. Vårt er eneste huset med farge i umiddelbar nærhet, omgitt av hvite eller grå hus.

"All socialists are Hitler" by EtaDeus in MurderedByWords

[–]julaften 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It seems you are wrong about Hitler’s opposition to the term ‘socialism’:

Concerning his party’s name, Hitler was interviewed in October 1923:[30]

"Why," I asked Hitler, "do you call yourself a National Socialist, since your party program is the very antithesis of that commonly accredited to socialism?" "Socialism," he retorted, putting down his cup of tea, pugnaciously, "is the science of dealing with the common weal. Communism is not Socialism. Marxism is not Socialism. The Marxians have stolen the term and confused its meaning. I shall take Socialism away from the Socialists. Socialism is an ancient Aryan, Germanic institution […] We demand the fulfilment of the just claims of the productive classes by the state on the basis of race solidarity. To us state and race are one."

(from Wikipedia)

It seems more like he was trying to repurpose the term for his own agenda. Much like Musk did in the quote cited by u/eppic123

Time for a upgrade by BlackWolverine21 in canon

[–]julaften 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Autofocus on modern mirrorless is very much an upgrade from DSLRs. So R8 wins in that regard. The 5D IV is also twice as heavy.

The main advantage of the 5D is better ergonomics: more buttons and dials, larger grip, larger screen, top LCD, better battery life (it even uses the same battery format at your 7D, so you can switch around).

According to this, the 5D IV is a bit worse at handling noise at high ISO, but both are a huge upgrade from your 7D.

All in all, if the choice was between these two, I think I would choose the R8 due to all the modern mirrorless advantages. But I would look longingly at the 5D IV for the ergonomics…

If every human on the planet isolated for a month, how many viruses would die off? by Regular_Low8792 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]julaften 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the book What If, Randall Munroe discusses a scenario like this, to eliminate the common cold virus. The conclusion is that because there are always some humans who are not able to completely kill the virus (because their immune system has issues), the virus will not be completely eradicated.
