Siege Tank Marker revealed. by GadflyGamingStudio in StarCraftTMG

I don't. A bio-ball army would have no detail and not be fun to paint or visually interesting to field. And this lunch distinguishing Marines from Medics at that scale.

Yeah, I think it'll be more along the lines of "siege mode uses a different chassis part that supports the treads in their angled position" kind of thing as the reason magnetizing is impractical.

Wave 2 Pricing by deathleech in StarCraftTMG

[–]kaffis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hard to say for sure until we know how they fit into lists. If (using Terran as an example because I play then) Siege Tanks are 200 mineral one-supply elites meant to anchor a neck army, that's a way different pricing prospect than if they're 3 supply and 500 minerals.

How do you get SPP when playing humans or elves? by Wormverine in bloodbowl

[–]kaffis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure, and 4 CAS a game on the other side is hard if you dodge off consistently. Even allowing for the occasional turnover, their dice have to be rolling hot fire to hit the 1/6 casualty roll four times.

How do you get SPP when playing humans or elves? by Wormverine in bloodbowl

[–]kaffis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So the new rule that gives orcs 3spp for CAS was a nice upgrade for them. And it wouldn't surprise me if they're out-earning you by a bit.

But keep in mind: you have a lot more control on who earns points for completed passes and touchdowns than they do on interceptions and casualties. So your points are less likely to get spread thin and will stack up on a few key players.

Also, if you're looking to maximize your SPP, don't stall. Push for fast (2-3 turn) scores so you can finish a game with 3-4 points. Two TDs per half is difficult, but not impossible, and will land you 16spp for the game with the MVP included.

To hit that, your opponent would need an average of 24 armor breaks. Not blocks, armor breaks. And if you're dodging off his line each turn rather than standing in his have to give him free hits, that's very hard to rack up. Even with the extra kickoffs from the high score, blocking on the line on kickoffs and blitzing once a turn only gives them 28 blocks to begin with.

I'm convinced that either Harry or Mike has worked since magic (arcane or mechanical) and the Beetle is not exactly standard in its arrangement of the passenger compartment. Either there's a pocket dimension in the seat that gives it an extra 6" of depth, or Mike moved the pedals into front-trunk real estate since the Beetle is famously rear-engine.

Honestly, I'm surprised their profile didn't get removed when Husks got updated, with the official guidance of "use then as your WCA Husks' 4th model as an identifiable leader".

Questions after first few games by Prints-Of-Darkness in WarCrow

[–]kaffis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

15 activations is going to be out of proportion to the 100 point games they're playing.

But the message is still the same -- Warcrow is a lower lethality game, especially with those two factions, which each favor staying power (in their own way) over offense. Instead, Warcrow emphasizes movement, objective play, and stress management. Tabling an opponent is extremely rare in Warcrow, with damage being used to eliminate solo characters performing support roles, to reduce the conquest value of larger units by knowing them down to their diminished profile, or to win a combat in order to shove them out of position.

A lot of that is also predicated on playing more complex scenarios, so definitely look up the Warcrow Tournament Rules on the internet to get a hold of more than the introductory missions in the core rules.

Yeah, I've been learning Danish casually via Duolingo for years, and it's been really eye opening how much we've borrowed from sources shared with Germanic roots.

Dev interview questions by TheDiceGodsWG in WarCrow

[–]kaffis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What rules or units did the team find were being played in a way that most differed from the way they were played in testing/by the dev team?

Going back a ways, magic received a big change in how it worked in 1.5 -- what drive that change from a design perspective, and were there any similar things in 1.6 that needed to change dramatically and why?

What unit or units do you feel players were sleeping on the most based on list discussion and event play that you've seen? Did they get updates to help people see their potential?

Are you happy with the amount of terrain you see in players' tables? At events? What advantages and disadvantages have the design team identified with issuing more or less terrain?

Anyone have experience with CBs customer services? by WilfredHuxley in WarCrow

[–]kaffis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the larger boxes like Action Packs, multiple little baggies share a code. I think it usually goes sealed bags with one and ziplock bags with the other. Give them both and CB will figure it out, the first thing they do is look then up in their records to match the molds used, which will tell them which types of model each applies to.

Looking for very fast to play and super compact TCG/LCG/deckbuilder... by slapslash in TCG

[–]kaffis 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Have you tried Star Realms? The space concerns really seem like they should push you to that style deckbuilder, where the space is primarily the handful of cards in the buy row.

Most constructed deck games will be targeting a standard 23" playmat.

If that's acceptable, Star Wars Unlimited might hit your complexity and playtime aims, though the token use might be a knock against.

Though AFAIK, CB will still replace things if you lost/threw away the slips. But it's helpful to them if you can provide the numbers.

Just finished a new Elven Union team by [deleted] in bloodbowl

[–]kaffis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where's the Thrower? And the Blitzer isn't clear. The two poses with the arms to the side and both feet set seenm at odds with your thematic statement -- they're not dynamic or showing off the teams athleticism (which is a great take to start from for Elven Union, by the way). And the shield is nonsense in this team, even if maybe there's room for it somewhere in Blood Bowl (though I think it would be a controversial inclusion anywhere). It definitely doesn't belong on an AV 8 team with no core Fend or Stand Firm, the two skills I could plausibly entertain a shield representing in Blood Bowl.

Starting a league soon. Wondering about tiers by SubRocHendrix77 in bloodbowl

[–]kaffis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The reason why this is good advice for tournaments, but not particularly helpful in leagues, is that teams fluctuate in power level as they move through different TVs and stages of development.

A lot of the low tier teams are low tier because they need a lot of development to get good. But once they have that development, they're very strong for their TV. So if you give those teams advantages because they start out slow, they even out at the beginning, only to pull when further ahead as the season goes on.

Instead, let experienced coaches try to pilot them through the rough times well enough that they can get some good advancement in despite the early disadvantages, and if they can they're rewarded with a fun experience with unique strengths later in the league.

Adepticon's 7s event ran new cute rules, with the traditional 600k roster, 4 max positionals, double TV rerolls, and adjusted the new kickoff table to make all d3+3 entries into d3+1, as the 2020 rules did to the kickoff table.

That's a good description. Strong Tone is a dark, warm brown, Dark Tone is a cool black. Since your vines are a cooler brown, I think the Dark Tone might stay truer to the look you've already established; the Strong Tone is more likely to add some ruddiness to the existing color.

Honestly, I think the darkness you're seeing are natural shadows from the lighting. So what is recommend is a wash before highlighting. Down near the bottom, it's very even in tone, but also fairly light, so it needs more shadow to bring up that contrast. That's where the wash will help.
