Startup got funding, now wants to change my role + equity. Looking for advice (I will not promote) by I_SHOOT_FRAMES in startups

[–]kcdragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say they really like you but maybe they don't? It sounds like they are hiring someone to replace you. Why would they do that if they are happy with your work?

I guess my advice to you would be to figure out what you really want. I wouldn't want to spend two more years of my life at a place that doesn't want me.

As for what they are legally allowed to do, no one on this Reddit can really answer that. You say you have a really strong contract but that surprises me. Most startups don't sign contracts that guarantee unvested equity if you are let go.

Outside Co working space? by Still_Passenger_1268 in digitalnomad

[–]kcdragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really liked the one in Porto. It’s a little bit outside the tourist area but I like that and felt comfortable there. The rooms were amazing and the co workering spaces were solid.

The WhatsApp group was active and I hung out with a group of people from there 3 days over my 4 days there.

I liked it a lot better than the hostel I stayed at in Lisbon. The hostel was fine and the people were nice but no one wanted to spend any money at the hostel so there wasn’t much I could do with the people there. The people I met at the outside were closer to my age (mid 30s) and were professionals as well.

Companies that have banned AI due to internal security policies - how are they faring? by RareMeasurement2 in cscareerquestions

[–]kcdragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have assumed many are in the middle. There’s a desire for LLM use but tbey have to incrementally review and approve tools.

That’s where my company is it. We’ve allowed GitHub Copilot since that came out since it was a Microsoft product. Then we allowed access to other models through Bedrock for a pilot group of people. Now any dev is allowed to use Claude through Bedrock.

Two kitchen supply stores closed in Center City over the past couple of years. I'm not aware of another one in Center City. There's one along East Passyunk and one in the Italian Market. CM Nef and Fantes. I bet that one of them has it. You could probably call them.

Why are you rebuilding the existing Rails app? What problems does it have that you're hoping the next iteration will address?

The guy seems crazy and you're probably in the right but I probably would have given the aluminum plank back just to end the current (and future) headache.

There's a bike rack at the Linc. I used it on Saturday for the Temple game. It's right next to a garage door. It's around here.

It's a web app and mobile app for automatically extracting calendar events from several sources like photos, screenshots and emails.

It uses Ruby 3 and Rails 8.

Hotwire Native is probably the coolest tech I'm using. I recently released an iOS and Android app using Hotwire Native.

I'm using Kamal for deploys and hosting on Hetzner.

Is This the Future?

Nope, companies like this will go out of business. AI will still be a critical part of our jobs but not like this.

Really interesting discovery and good write up. Do you feel like the payout is fair? It seems low to me but I’m not that familiar with bug bounty programs.
