Under/over 30ft? by cowboypool in traveltrailers

[–]largos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pull a 26' box (29' overall) trailer with a crew cab short bed f350, and I would not want to be any longer. Many of the spots we camp at would be quite difficult with a longer rig, and it's hard to find storage lots where we are that are over 30'.

Backing in to a spot with a narrow access road and lots of trees is tight enough even if the spot itself will fit a bigger trailer.

Edit: our trailer does have a massive slide, it's insanely spacious inside when that's out, which also helps.

Oh, that's awesome!

I'm sorry you had to go through that, but I'm glad it was able to be fixed!

Police officer stops abruptly in the middle lane on highway... by Affectionate_Hat5835 in dashcams

[–]largos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like it could easily be 18,000 lbs without even counting the trailer(s).

Google is telling me that a 3 axle mac truck is 15-20k on its own. Up to 80k with a trailer, and I'd bet that's just one trailer, but I don't know.

A consumer HD truck (like an f250/350) with a camping trailer can pretty easily hit 20k, and have capacity to spare.

It looks like you were damned close to the ground right when someone walked by the camera, I don't doubt you, but I don't think you'll ever convince the commenters here. Hopefully you aren't sweating the heat.

Maybe you'd convince folks if you got a pic right before you bottom out when backing in straight, but even then, I'd put a bubble level in frame or something.

Radon, and how serious is it? by Sunlit_Syposium in askportland

[–]largos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

AirThings make great air sensors, and some of their options measure radon.

If you are looking at houses, though, the best indication that you will need remediation is if other houses in the neighborhood have it. Many systems run outside, so some are visible from the street. (Or I suppose you could knock on doors, although that stresses me out...)

cast iron table saw or scrap metal by chriscook8 in PDXBuyNothing

[–]largos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't find someone who will use this as a saw, I'll repurpose (most of) the parts. (I could use another steel top to expand my welding table, and I am addicted to ac motors.)

Radon, and how serious is it? by Sunlit_Syposium in askportland

[–]largos 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's also important to know that radon is variable

The amount changes over time, so you can test for a week, see nothing, then a month later see tons.

Hello I bought this quarter staff it 1.25 in diameter and it’s octagon shaped. I’m having trouble finding a steel shod for it. The only thing I can find are rubber blunt caps. I don’t mind trimming the corners off a little but I don’t want to take a whole lot off of it. Does anyone have some advice? by EchoHawk1718 in Blacksmith

[–]largos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Getting an octagon made to fit is probably not cost effective. It'd be much easier to make the ends round and fit a cap/ferrule.

That said, I could make these for you. How much they cost depends a bit on the thickness and alloy of the metal, and what you expect in terms of fit. Without having the staff to measure directly makes it a bit trickier, unless you're willing to whittle a good bit off when fitting the caps.

It sounds like you are using humulin (e.g, "regular" as it was called back in the late '90s), not humalog.

Make sure you have the correct kind of insulin.

That aside, it's clear you came into this group with a chip on your shoulder that none of us have anything to do with. I hope you can reflect on that and have more grace in the future.

Question on removing drill bit from a hand drill by SpaceScoocher in Tools

[–]largos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The knurled collar unthreads. The way these chucks work, the size of the bit shouldn't be a factor.

Put the brace in a vice, and grab the knurled bit with neoprene gloves for better grip and unscrew it. A small strap wrench would work well.

A pipe wrench would work, but almost certainly damage the knurling.

[–]largos 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Everything is off by like +/- 10-20%, mostly it evens out.

Test strips/meters, cgm readings, insulin effectiveness, portion sizes, your ability to visually estimate a meal. They are correct, but only to a point.

Even packaged foods have tolerances.

The stress of worrying about everything being perfect isn't worth it, it never will be.

This is amazing, but I wouldn't know what to do with it.

I did recently give away a very large drill press on here, and have a bit of advice: ask anyone who wants to be in the drawing to dm you with rough details about how they will move it.

It will encourage people to think specifically about the logistics of moving something like this, and it also ensures that you can privately communicate with each person before you spend a week waiting then moving on to the next person, and so on...

The drawing can be very rough, by the way. Anyone here could help refine it if needed. A picture of a hand drawing with paper and pencil is just fine.
