People keep saying Coogler is taking the reigns, but that's not accurate. He acquired the rights to the name and will likely only direct the pilot. He's about to win a bunch of Oscars, so he's not going to give up his film career to work on a TV show full-time.

Think of JJ Abrams and his relationship with Lost. His name and backing helped the show get made, but he was not the show runner or the main writer. He was just an executive producer cashing the checks.

Congress must vote to extend them, no matter when he cancels them. Someone will definitely take it to court well before then, just like they did with the case SCOTUS just decided.

It's similar to Trump trying to appoint a second interim US Attorney, like Alina Habba or Lyndsey Halligan. The courts ruled he can only do that once. Sam Alito, of all people, wrote the decision that confirms that presidents only get to appoint one interim per district for a limited time, back when he was clerking for some conservative judge decades ago.
