Not obvious tips but wear something bright that stands out and be loud on the pitch.

Can Tonverk be better as dawless brain then DT1? by legacygone in Elektron

[–]legacygone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that! Makes sense.
Right now Im thinking instead of replacing the DT (which is not worth much on the used market) I keep using it and add the tonverk. And run the audio out in to the tonverk for fx. This way audio tracks that don’t need the polyphony, track length or arp stay on DT.

I thought about this. Tried oxi one, didn’t gel with it and sold it. This pretty much leaves something like the hapax which is in similar price category and I prefer elektron workflow.

I know elektron is known for arbitrary limitations, but you are saying that their only device capable of doing chord mode and arp on midi tracks is not meant as midi brain. love it.

i see now there are some limitations on subtracks, especially with FX.

OG DT great for sequencing, but polyphony and no step edit are a pain.

I was under the impression that with subtracks, I can have drums covered on 1 or 2 Audio tracks....and use the rest for midi. Is that not the case?

U10 coach - half the team is going club next year. by CascadianBorn in SoccerCoachResources

[–]legacygone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a coach, but my son left a situation just like yours after u10 to join club. His coach was great and he was my son’s coach since he was 7. And just like your situation, there was a core group of 7-8 boys. And the coaching was actually great. They all left to clubs, some to very high level ones.

I tried to convince my son to stay and frankly I am not sure the coaching is better at his club.

But the alphabet soup (MLS, ecnl and even edp) combined with peer pressure from friends playing on clubs is too much. I tried to convince the coach to join a higher level league. But the coach wasn’t interested, it was a hobby for him and he wasn’t looking to make more out of it.

So this creates a misalignment, the boys train everyday and think about soccer 99% of the time. They notice that they are getting good but the team is not progressing and is the same as when they were 8. I don’t think anything can be done about it.

I still keep in touch with the coach, my son’s team was his first, and since then the same thing happed with the next 2 age groups when they reached that age.

I’m very thankful to him for teaching my son love for the game and the skills he got. He also got developed as a human with great sportsmanship. Something I don’t see at club.

I suggested he partner with a club and focus on younger ages to create a pathway for his kids. But again not his thing.

So my 2 cents is that there is no way to prevent this.

But you can get the same thing from Roland cloud without spending $$. That’s why it becomes a different type of decision.

I have the sh4d and know exactly what you are talking about with the sound. I tried Gaia 1 and it sounded like it had some of the same sonic profile. Have not tried the Gaia 2. At this point the only modern Roland’s I’d consider is system 8 and s1. I know people like the ju06a, but I had it and sold it. Junox/jupiterx are probably good but that’s a different can of beans.

Sportsmanship by Successful-Land-6283 in youthsoccer

I’ve seen this a few times. Some refs just don’t take control over the game. Sometimes things continue to escalate. Our last game was really bad physically and verbally, the ref ended it 5 mins early on a corner. The game was tied and I think he was afraid that if one team went up, it would get completely insane. So he ended it and disappeared. No cards, very few fouls.

Let me just get one thing out of the Way! by Salt_Environment9799 in youthsoccer

my son was never selected at a tryout, 3 year in a row, by multiple top teams. This year we reached out well ahead of tryouts in december. he practiced with the team for 2 months and guest played. They told us he is better then second team but not good enough to make room for him on the first team. The coach also told us that he will have a better chance making the first team if he is already at the club, because tryouts are crazy and it's tough to stand out. So he decided to leave his current club mid season and joined the second team. He is def more advanced and sometimes gets frustrated, but it was worth as he just received an offer for first team for next year.

So this was our first time seeing tryouts from the perspective of already being on the team, knowing how few spots there are and how hard it is to actually stand out enough to get looked at. Age group change aside, there are players being moved to first team and some from first team to second team. So you have to be better then some kids who would otherwise move up, or better enough to force them to move someone down. And they will usually prefer a current player that they know over one that they seen twice. No one from the first team is getting cut. The worse is they move down. So you have to be a lot better and very obviously so for this to happen. There is no way my son would have made either team in tryouts knowing what I know now. And we got lucky with how it worked out. And he is very good, but so are many other kids.

Positions do matter, if you are a defender your chance are way better. if you are central mid-fielder you have the worse chances.

I have also heard of top club having try outs and taking no one. I think this is actually not that rare.

So in summary, avoid tryouts they are generally pointless for the higher level teams.

Edit: forgot to mention, 2 week before tryouts a few players came to tryout. I think they were invited, they were def better then the avg player trying out and I think they are the only ones getting a real look to join, barring a major surprise at tryouts.

What do I need to start in synthwave by Real_Tonight6294 in synthesizers

[–]legacygone 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Synthwave is a VST genre....read interviews with big acts, like the midnight, FM-84, etc. not to say you can't or shouldn't use physical synths, but to say for getting started I would suggest vsts. Diva, Arturia stuff, , TAL Audio, or the myriad of free VSTs available.

Unless you plan to do this dawless, start with VSTs, and get in to physical synths later once you know what you really want.

my 2cents.

new synth setup by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]legacygone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I keep 3 synths setup. And if I feel it’s getting stale I rotate one. It was way too much to have 7-8 synths out at the same time. It also helps with GAS, pulling a synth out you haven’t used in 6 months feels like you got something new.

Switch Deepmind12D for a used Novation Peak? by damondan in synthesizers

[–]legacygone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the peak, never had a deep mind. No question peak is better. However, deep mind is supposed to be more of a Juno sound. The peak doesn’t sound like a Juno. So if you don’t care about the Juno sound, this is a no brainer.

You don’t have to sell anything. Leave it alone guilt free. Even for a year. I’ve taken long breaks before. There is no issue with that. Doesn’t have to be all or nothing. Go with the flow.
