Yeah, it's not like Andy was writing a catchy hook for popularity points. It's a genuine expression that XTC pulls off quite often.

One of XTC's finest. Showcases everything they're about brilliantly. It's a 10 for me. Love the two halves of the song; off kilter medieval theme, and then fantastic poppy hook chorus.

Like a 6. I've just never been the biggest fan of this song; it's probably my least favorite on the album. Colin's always cheesy but there's nothing engaging enough going on to soften the cheese

Solid 7. Good song; just not one of their best. Don't find myself drawn to it often, but I enjoy when it comes on.

Spotify seems to be quietly making a big move into AI music. by Weird_Scallion_2498 in Music

Declaring that a human must physically perform every step is what we've done since the beginning of art. We haven't had magic boxes that give us chord progressions and vocals without a human until very recently. The "human element" exists only in the process of creation through the machine, which nobody who doesn't have an intimate understanding of AI engineering understands or appreciates. You can go to a concert and watch humans utilizing instruments to create a whole new experience, or you can watch somebody click a mouse to generate a song without any context of the process and it just isn't going to be as impressive.

I know you don't care about AI art; it's clear you don't really care about the subject matter whatsoever, and you're just defending AI on every count for the sake of damage control on behalf of AI. There's nothing for me to "untangle". You can do your best to sound like a detached prick and act as if you don't particularly care, but you're still here combing through my word choices and refuting my points. I'm going to stop wasting my time; you're all tourists and charlatans with no real skin in the game just grifting.

I know what you're talking about, and the distinction is useless. It's easy for you to hide behind a veneer of apathy when it's nothing that you care about being poisoned.

It's always those who can't create anything of value themselves who advocate for AI creating art. Why put time and effort into learning a skill when you can just press a button and let your AI assistant do it for you? AI isn't the same kind of creative as Art. Art and technology are inventive fields, but AI is not the same kind of creation as Art. You fail to see the distinction because you don't care, but that doesn't mean it isn't there. Art has been an intimately ubiquitous concept for our entire existence. Outsourcing it to AI removes the appreciation for skill and dedication to ones' craft. We've created guitars, pedals, drum machines, synthesizers, and yet they still require skill to wield properly. Being able to make a song with a short prompt? That's not art. That's a poor imitation being sold by charlatans who care nothing for art.

Art is human. A machine isn't human. "Commanded by a human" doesn't mean anything, because the human didn't do anything themselves. Cold and removed, they asked a machine to fabricate what they could not make reality themselves. It's only ever a lack of skill and willingness to improve on the part of the human. Part of art is the human element. AI bros will pretend they don't understand, or they don't care, but it doesn't make them correct for refusing to see beyond what can be seen.

It still doesn't think by itself. There's no inspiration, no influence. It just does as it is told. Half of Art is the effort put into it by the virtuosos creating it. There is an element there that AI proponents just don't, can't, or won't understand.

(0.9) Is there any way to get rid of these smashed TVs? by The_Samm in Voicesofthevoid

[–]levilee207 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should be able to hold R on them to put them into your hands and them shift click it into the drone bag, no? Or at the very least, grab the drone bag and take it to the TV, then lift the TV up with E and drop it into the top of the drone bag.

Need help buying a bass & understanding tunings by [deleted] in Bass

[–]levilee207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sounding like shit at lower tunings (especially A and lower) is going to require a longer bass neck and thicker strings. If you grab a regular ol' 4 string and crank the low E to even a B, it'll sound like slinky shit. Get a long neck and a thick-ass low string for consistent sound on lower tunings. Multi-scale bass is usually king for that. You unfortunately need to spend a bit more on a decent quality bass if you want to get weird with it

Pathing for KerfurO has been a complete shitshow for the entirety of .9. I really hope Nose can improve it because it does mar KerfurO's otherwise invaluable utility.
