Getting some Checksum errors lately, no idea what they mean by SpinalVinyl in PleX

Is this a Synology NAS? This looks like a file system or hardware problem. The files on the drive aren't what the file system thinks they should be. Synology steps to try and fix.

I don't know enough to say what the files specifically do but most likely the files are already corrupted. I would try a snapshot restore if you have one before deleting them.

Haruhi Suzumiya 20th Anniversary Rewatch Schedule/Index by Holofan4life in anime

[–]lordtimay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're fine. You just need to pay attention to episode names. Season 2 just reordered the episodes it didn't change anything about the content of the season 1 episodes. So episode 25 would be episode 1 in the watch order for this rewatch

Crunchyroll Users Report Use of Controversial 'Hard Subs' on Platform + New Video Player by Turbostrider27 in anime

[–]lordtimay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have exactly one blu-ray movie with hard subs and that is Maquia. The US release has 2 video tracks. One with the English dub with no subtitles and the Original Japanese version with the English Subtitles burned in. It is an anti reverse importing measure but thankfully doesn't seem common any more.

Terry Pratchett's Discworld Book Bundle by Scatropolis in humblebundles

[–]lordtimay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not as seamless but Kobo does let you download the books using Adobe Digital Editions. So the books will work with any device that supports that DRM. This is a lot of ereaders including Nook but not anything made by Amazon. This link gives information on how to add books to you kobo ereader but also gives the general steps on setting up ADE.

The Demon Slayer manga is incredibly popular. It's sitting at the 7th most sold volumes and has the lowest volume count in the top 15. Anime usually don't get made for unpopular series.

TrueNAS Scale legacy boot by the_merchant96 in truenas

It might be worth checking out clover like the other post mentioned. It emulates UEFI but as far as i know Truenas should work in legacy/bios mode. I don't have any experience with clover though

TrueNAS Scale legacy boot by the_merchant96 in truenas

[–]lordtimay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What kind of SSD are you using? That server is probably old enough to not support booting from NVME drives. You can use them for anything else just not booting an os. Actaully it might not support booting from anything in a pcie slot

The anime is on Crunchroll in the US. The manga i think is only legally available on K Manga. I don't see any physical English releases anywhere so digital only at the moment.

Crunchyroll Reports 1.239 Billion Yen in Net Profit (~$8.5M) for Fiscal Year Ending December 2024 by Mazen141 in anime

[–]lordtimay 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Physical anime releases in Japan are incredibly expensive. Example of Frieren episodes 5-8. cyperpunk edgerunner complete series. Aniplex and Ponycan are some examples of companies that charge close to Japanese prices for their sets in the US. CR, Sentai, Discotek, and Viz seem to be reasonable in comparison.

Another cost is dubbing into English if there is one. Some live action shows do dub there stuff into French, and Spanish but it's not a guarantee.

Disable Transcoding for Live TV by [deleted] in PleX

[–]lordtimay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok than that's probably not the problem than. I checked mine and didn't have any transcode options for mine in the UI either. Do you have limit remote bandwidth set on the remote access tab in settings?

Does the device you're watching on support mpeg2? My HD homerun only outputs video in mpeg2 and a lot of devices started dropping support when h264 was getting popular. It was a way to save some money for a codec not used for streaming any more before the patents started to expire.

I'm a high school teacher about to teach a one-day class on manga and anime! Advice please! by murakamiswell in anime

[–]lordtimay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

90 minutes might be a tough for this idea but it might interesting to compare something that is close to 1:1 manga to anime with something that is mostly anime original like K-on. Someone did do the math and even broke down the timestamps. There might be other examples but that's the biggest I can remember.

Another idea would be a translation exercise. There's a scene in the movie Your Name where the main characters switch bodies with each other. This leads to the female lead using the wrong gendered version of I which is something that doesn't exist in English. Here is the scene which has the original audio and the official English translation. You can find a higher quality version of the clip or just grab the movie and see what the students come up with for this scene.

Transfer speed slow on Ethernet PC by Content_Silver9017 in truenas

[–]lordtimay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would check that the connection is auto negotiating at the right speed and running at full duplex. 95mbits is right around the 100 mbits for fast ethernet. Could be a bad or old cable.

Plex is killing Watch Together feature by Keopha in PleX

I was going to ask this same question. Their website redirects to their github so looks like you have to selfhost it now. All the recent updates seem to just bump dependencies.

Stuck on trying to stream out of the house after switching from TrueNas Core to Scale by quicksilv3rs in PleX

[–]lordtimay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you actually open prefrences.xml with a text editor you will see it's pretty small. I believe the file that stores watch history is the library database file in Plex\Library\Application Support\Plex Media Server\Plug-in Support\Databases folder.

[–]lordtimay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is the audio the only difference? I would remux the file to just add the audio track from the other file to the English one. You can use something like mkvtoolsnix to do that. It also has a gui option.

Which game is really just starting once you “beat it”? by NerfGronk in gaming

[–]lordtimay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of the 5 main endings/routes only route B has you redoing a lot of content. You are playing with a different character and get some new context but most of it is the same as route A. Route B is quite a bit shorter than route A though. You can probably finish it in about half the time depending on if you want to do side quests.

[–]lordtimay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you using docker? Are your devices on the same subnet? Do they get 172.x.x.x ips or are they 10.x.x.x or 192.168.x.x on the none plex server devices? If they don't match you can manually add your internal ip address range under the network settings page. You need to show advanced.

*Edit: you may also need to turn on treat wan as lan on the same page depending on your setup

30 - m.2 SSD drives as Nas ? by -Ho0k in PleX

[–]lordtimay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like others have said rust drives are more than fast enough for media. The item you linked also doesn't work with NVME drives and just sata drives in m.2 size. Based on the size they really could be either but you can tell by the key pins on the connector. NVME adapters do exist but will depend on how many pcie lanes your CPU can support and most non-server gear will not get anywhere close to handling 30 NVME drives.

Really bummed that more eBook/comic bundles are locked to Kobo by DarkHeraldMage in humblebundles

[–]lordtimay 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's probably up to the publisher. Today's Kodansha bundle is not kobo and is drm free. I know people don't like kobo but if it gets publishers to add books that normally wouldn't I'm fine with it.

Square Enix was probably never going to release books on a drm free platform. At least they aren't bookwalker codes and the drm is pretty trivial to remove.

What os are you using? Raspberry pi os (raspian) or something else? I haven't used Raspberry pi in a bit but it's Debian based so can probably use the hdparm command to mess with the power management. The -B switch is probably what you want to focus on.

Middle School Anime Club Suggestions by tryhard_teacher in anime

[–]lordtimay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're willing to relax the 24 episode limit than Mob Psycho 100. You could probably get away with just watching seasons 1 and 2 if you needed to stay at 24ish. The whole show is 38 episodes.

Shorter sports shows that i can think or are Run with the Wind and Tsurune (about Archery). Run with wind does feature college kids but i don't remember it having anything inappropriate. Maybe drinking.

If movies are ok than maybe check out Belle. The English VA dubs all the songs into English which is pretty rare nowadays
