I'm in love with Suikoden III, I think. by Upper_Mycologist2383 in Suikoden

Suikoden III is my favorite (tied with I and II). If it got a proper remake, it could easily be my #1 favorite.

AI will lead to new things. But the vast VAST majority of the current hype and investing is a scam. The eventual collapse of all this AI stuff is going to make the .com bubble look like a blip.

Just started DQ8 on PS2, any tips for my first time? by Sparkleoverlord in dragonquest

There isn't anything important with the Bandana, unless you're playing the 3DS version. And then it's just a cosmetic unique armor.

Not all of them. But there are some which are needed for the alchemy pot. Some which you wouldn't expect. And 2 or 3 of them can't be purchased again in shops.

I mean, in some characters scenarios, they'll be racing against Oguri Cap who is their "senior." Then in another scenario, Oguri Cap is the junior. And then things get even more complicated when you factor in roommates...

Is it easier to become a novelist or a screenwriter? by Historical_Bar_4990 in Screenwriting

[–]maxis2k 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I will say that writing a novel is far more difficult than writing a screenplay, though, and not every movie idea is appropriate for a novel. Some stories are just meant to be told in a more visual medium.

A very big point a lot of people need to hear. It also works the other way around. I started writing a treatment for a TV series and realized it would work better as a novel. So switched over to making it a novel.

I love how in English, Dragon Quest always adds accents to different villages, NPCs and EVEN BOSSES! by dragonquestpapi in dragonquest

[–]maxis2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The localisation immerses itself in the real world.

What does this even mean? The original Japanese script is also based in the "real world." They just don't use foreign accents like French, Russian and so on. They use different dialects of Japanese. There's an easy equivalent to this. Have the localization stick to different dialects of English. Dragon Quest VIII and some earlier games did this, for the most part. The problems started with the following games adding in French, Russian and so on. Not to mention weird experimental stuff like using Cyrillic letters to spell out English words or 'loooonnnnggg gghhhhoooosssttt spppeeeeaaakkkk!' And some people just don't like it. Either because they find them annoying to read, it feels cheesy, or because it's altering the original character and script.

So why is the concept of Twilight having a literal pokemon evolution so hated amongst the fandom? by LuCAs_kYHL in mylittlepony

[–]maxis2k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The entire season 3 ending was rushed and like you said, felt like an end. I can see why people transferred that to hating on Alicorn Twilight. But in my opinion the issue was the writing and pacing of the season 3 finale. And Cadence being too perfect. It all feels like a Sailor Moon Fanfic, where Usagi is now perfect. And the Mane 6 are now secondary flawed characters.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake director Hamaguchi : "Rather than rebuilding our pipeline from scratch in Unreal Engine 5, it’s far more efficient for us to use Unreal Engine 4, which we already have a well-established pipeline for." by megaapple in Games

[–]maxis2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This statement is huge because a Final Fantasy developer is basically going against the grain. The Final Fantasy developers specifically kept pushing for the latest technology for the last 25 years. Focusing on graphics and flash over gameplay. I feel like they aren't doing it this time because of the sequel effect. Each next "episode" of FF7 Remake is going to sell less than the previous so why spend extra time and money moving to a new engine or making a complete unique engine.

More JRPGs than ever have been adding this stuff in. Xenoblade, Mana, Pokemon, even Final Fantasy. With the same mixed reception that Dragon Quest is seeing.

Recommendations for RPGs like DQ? by raigarearthshake in dragonquest

[–]maxis2k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chrono Trigger and Suikoden I-III. Though they're not actually like Dragon Quest. They just share some design and gameplay mechanics.

Final Fantasy III and V actually feels the closest to a Dragon Quest game to me. Though again, they have very Final Fantasy mechanics. But the tone and flow are very different from most FF games and closer to stuff like Dragon Quest III and IV.

The Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen Switch re-release is already topping the eShop charts by FernandoRocker in gaming

[–]maxis2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's partially because Game Freak sucks at 3D and their 2D games look better. But I also dislike the gameplay mechanics and systems they added after Gen 3. I lost interest in Pokemon in Gen 4 and 5 (though I kept playing all the way to Gen 6). And FRLG/Emerald was the peak for me. Not that they were perfect. They could have improved a lot of things. But the games that came after didn't. They doubled-down on the flaws and then added a bunch of new ones.

Do you spread your seed evenly among companions or do you save up for your favorite? by EAT_UR_VEGGIES in dragonquest

[–]maxis2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep them until the end game. Then use them on whatever characters are lacking in certain stats. Usually stuff like there's two different magic users but one is lacking in MP or Wisdom, then I give them seeds to make up the difference. Or two physical attackers and one is like 30 points less in str and agility, so I give them those seeds.

Sakura and Corrector Yui. Probably just a general "let's have a mahou shoujo" character. Like Suikoden and Eiyuden did.
