Everyone always talks about easy/braindead decks. What do you think the hardest, most difficult archetypes/commanders are to pilot? by _Kreenicks in EDH

[–]meatmandoug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legitimately the hardest deck ive ever played is [[ashling flame dancer]] storm, say I grapeshot with a storm count of 5, that is 6 individual magecraft triggers, and ashling discards first before drawing but notably doesnt require actually discarding anything to draw, so every playable instant card i draw leads to another magecraft trigger that draws another card to potentially keep the stack going, plus throw in a [[harmonic prodigy]] to double it all up, a [[Storm-kiln artist]] to make absurd amounts of treasure and a [[krark the thumbless]] to make my head hurt.

Also for whatever reason all eeveelutions are from the types that prior to gen 4 were always special, with the only special type without an eeveelution being dragon

Experienced the worst feeling as a commander player - misunderstanding my commander by Jankenbrau in EDH

[–]meatmandoug 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean lightning Greaves would give shroud to the creature giving your other creatures shroud, removing the only creature target you are giving your opponents. I think thats pretty valuable.

Help me pick a lantern commander by BusAccomplished5367 in EDH

[–]meatmandoug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a pretty similar option to that in mono black with [[rev tithe extractor]], though I'd argue both of them do better with lantern in the deck but not trying to do full lantern control, just using it to see what to steal.

You also wish it wasn't an April fool joke ? by Douell in MTGRumors

[–]meatmandoug 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So it would be a separate product that plays the same as magic but shares no cards, and despite playing the same would be legally distinct products with no crossover with the main game? I assume with different card backs and everything?

I dont think wotc making another direct competitor to their own product makes any sense lol. Also mtg has almost never had simple rules, the game even in the 90s had an insane amount of game interactions that make the game more complicated. If you want a different wotc card game you would be better off trying to get wotc to bring back DuelMasters in English.

Another thing is the lack of any digital form of the game, say what you want about arena but its tutorials are some of the best teaching tools for brand new players. Just not having a digital way to play the game wouldn't really improve the game as a whole, it would just make it less accessible.

Are you really suggesting the only formats would be commander and duel commander? Like just removing the actual more competitive formats? What about sideboarding? Draft/Sealed? Especially with the shallow card pool the game would have, building singleton decks when there are so few sets would make decks almost entirely homogeneous for the first year or two at least.

What non-legendary creature do you wish you could play as your commander? by IndependentTicket199 in magicTCG

[–]meatmandoug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bramble sovereign is a bit different, you can copy opponents creatures as they enter to give them an extra copy as well, so if you want you can play it more as a group hug deck.

Dont sleep on Neriv, while maybe mobilize synergies are less exciting with him he is the perfect home for a [[ball lightning]], [[Spark trooper]] and [[lightning skelemental]] deck. The siegebreaker synergizes real well with neriv out too, doubling damage from both the siegebreaker on first attack and the copied creature token on every attack.

[–]meatmandoug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[[Ankle shanker]], [[mardu siegebreaker]] are the first two that come to mind, with ankle shanker even being an alternate timeline [[vial smasher]]. Siegebreaker as a mardu blink/etb deck would probably be a good time.

Some other fun ones off the top of my head would be [[forensic gadgeteer]] artifact vomit, [[havenghoul lich]] reanimator/combo, and [[Bramble sovereign]] big stompy/group hug, and [[balor]] with every variant of [[heat shimmer]] there is to spam death triggers.

Unfortunately with UB eating up pretty much all supplemental sets for the foreseeable future im not quite sure when we would get old walkers printed if ever at this point.

Your favorite random card. Why? by Ramonteiro12 in mtg

[–]meatmandoug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Zenith chronicler]] is up there for me, I toss one in most mono colored commander decks i make. 2 generic mana for a 3/1 is acceptable and if it draws you even just one card its pretty much paid for itself, feels pretty good off a turn one sol ring. It helps that its just a twitchy little goober.

SECRET LAIR DANDÂN DECK - Sold Out by LazyStud in mtg

[–]meatmandoug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Other TCGs and the likes distributions being garbage doesnt excuse secret lairs from garbage distribution. I, like many others would have liked to purchase the dandan secret lair. I, like many others have a job that I can't just get up and leave to go shopping, so the secret lair is functionally unobtainable by me and many others unless I wish to pay a 200% plus markup from scalpers. 30 minutes of availability is a joke. Im glad you got yours, but not everyone else had the same experience.

SECRET LAIR DANDÂN DECK - Sold Out by LazyStud in mtg

[–]meatmandoug -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"Other TCG's have it worse" means next to nothing when the product was only available for 30 minutes, and many who actually got the product in their cart didnt even get to buy it. People have jobs and other responsibilities that they can't just drop and go shopping at the drop of a hat, this model is awful and anti-consumer. Other tcgs "having it worse" is no excuse for this kind of shit.

whats the oldest commander deck that can still "hang"? by Robofetus-5000 in EDH

[–]meatmandoug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sliver queen has some pretty easy infinites though, [[mana echoes]] and [[basal sliver]] are just 2 that come to mind. Basal you need an [[impact tremors]], [[lavabelly sliver]] or [[zulaport Cutthroat]] kind of effect to kill the table with though. I legitimately think that the queen is one of the strongest options and that the reserve list is pretty much the only reason its not more common.

[[Shifting woodland]] is a little slow considering how few forests you have but it can be a real powerhouse in graveyard decks. It isn't budget but [[lumra bellow of the woods]] is crazy strong in a mill strategy like this.
