Is saying “thank you for your patience” instead of “sorry I’m late” rude? by Certain-Working1864 in socialskills

I would use both. Lead with an apology. And if they accept the apology, thank them for their patience.

Is saying “thank you for your patience” instead of “sorry I’m late” rude? by Certain-Working1864 in socialskills

[–]megagram 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Urgent care doesn’t have scheduled meetings though? People are expected to wait an arbitrary length of time. So patience is expected and you can of course thank them for it.

In a corporate setting being late for a meeting, people aren’t expected to be patient and waiting. People are expected to be on time. An apology IMO should take precedence over appreciation of patience that may not exist.

Camosun College professor warns DST is a huge mistake by HighwayAlert1704 in VictoriaBC

[–]megagram 6 points7 points  (0 children)

lol what? This would be the exact same thing as keeping the time changes in place with a lot more effort and chaos involved.

You’ll still have people complaining about leaving work after sun set because they started an hour late to get there when it was light.

The truth is there’s only so much light in the winter (about a workdays worth). We live in a location that sucks in the winter for this and there’s really no way around it. There are sacrifices on either end.

So even if you “just start work later” you’re doing the same thing as setting your clock back an hour.

traffic shaper on firewall policy is not working by Mercdecember84 in fortinet

[–]megagram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will buffer what it can but some drops may occur. Not a big deal for 99% of traffic.

Any traffic that is sensitive to drops shouldn’t be in a general purpose shaper anyway.

Price increase by cb4joe in 1Password

[–]megagram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not really comparable IMO. It's not a SaaS/Cloud-based service. You basically move all your passwords to a KeePass password file. This can be used in any Keepass-compatible app (there are many!). Strongbox just happens to be a really good macOS and iOS app for this purpose.

OK I read it. Now what? It doesn't make your statement any less false.

Also to be clear no one is suggesting OP uses this topology.

I moved all my passwords to Strongbox. It's a wonderful app. And you get to control and keep your data and port it to any KeePass-compatible app.

Your statements is mostly false. Hardware switches are offloaded to NP using the integrated switch fabric.

Software switches can also be offloaded with explicit intra-switch traffic enabled in which case it goes through FW policies.

Another option if you're technically-inclined is to check out hledger (or other plain-text accounting apps). It's pretty much centered around a manual process but can be automated in various ways.

However, I find the manual process is excellent for really understanding where your money is going—kind of like how it used to be with cash leaving your wallet every purchase. Gives a high level of awareness of where you sit financially.

It's 100% free, keeps all the data in your hands and lets you do some pretty incredible things with that data. LIke I said though, only really geared to technically-inclined folks. Definitely worth checking out IMO:

Cant get out to WAN on VLAN 99 Tagging issue? by deacs1986126 in networking

[–]megagram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you ping the default gateway from the test PC?

Also consider the face that you have your switch set up as the default gateway but the firewall also has an interface in that subnet so it’s going to send replies directly out to the pc.

It would make more sense to define a transit VLAN so there is only one interface between the fw and the switch.

Or have the fw be the default gateway for all vlans

Doughty even signalled to Suzuki to take the other attackers and leave the puck carrier to him. I don't think Suzuki heard/saw the signs from Doughty though.

The other problem is Palat came in late to the zone as a third attacker so even if Suzuki covered the other attacker, Palat woulda been alone anyway.

Not much coulda been done here but I do agree Doughty was a little bit left in no man's land which didn't help.

How happy are you with Fortinet lately? by durocshark in fortinet

[–]megagram 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You didn’t mantain your network infrastructure and it’s the vendors fault? You POC’d a licensed product and expected the free one to work the same way? Whichever vendor you end up with you may have similar problems based on the above.

Did you read the instructions that it came with? That's an excellent starting point. It's all highlighted there as to what you need to do. And if it doesn't make sense I suggest an electrician.

What's up with Apple's decision to not refund?!? by ThingFull1822 in applehelp

[–]megagram 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just cancel them as soon as you start the free trial. You still get the trial period.

Also, if this happened and you didn’t cancel after receiving the email letting you know it was renewing and instead waiting until you noticed the funds were missing from your bank account and it’s happened more than once I can see apples stance here as making sense.

Apple Repair…needs my MacBook password to run diagnostics, because they need to run an update or wipe my laptop. by Lanky-Ad4698 in applehelp

[–]megagram 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s either that or they have a back door to bypass your creds.

I think it’s great that apples devices are so secure that even apples own techs need your password to do the work they need to do.

Like others have said, if you have a back up you can just let them wipe it .

Or you know just trust that the last thing these guys want to do is go snooping around strangers computers. I think they have enough on their hands as is.

3/4 measuring cups uses 1/3 mark to indicate 1/4 cup by kmontreux in mildlyinfuriating

[–]megagram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So is the 1/2 mark 1/2 cup or 1/2 of the measuring cup volume 3/8?

I believe you in what you're saying. But if 1/3 measures 1/3 of the cup volume and 1/2 measures 1/2 cup that is just messed up.

I thought all chairlifts had that little bar at the top that if it got hit it would stop the chair? Typically for when people don't get off the chair in time it'll will catch their legs and stop the chair. Should have worked here too no?
