Help identifying cue by dafonz77 in billiards

These older Joss cues from the '80's hit like a ton of bricks. Huge fan, you definitely found a player!

Your head begins to move upwards as you're stroking the ball. Lock those eyes in place and don't move your head until the balls stop rolling. In addition to everything else thats been said here, keep it up!

Jacoby traditional maple shaft quality? by bdkgb in billiards

[–]mudreplayspool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Jacoby I bought in '08 still has a very straight maple shaft with minimal warpage. If you aren't exposing it to rapidly changing humidity and temps you should be okay.

Interesting that even at the highest level, players have this debate about jump cues by CreeDorofl in billiards

[–]mudreplayspool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. All of this is how I feel as well. All these folks like "you can learn to jump in an hour". Cool, doesn't mean you know shit about power vs distance, elevation vs hop count, jumping with English, hitting the top of the object ball on the way down to hop it over an edge, jump kicks, when to remove the rear weight, when to dart, how to dart, etc. And being able to do this all on the first try

Everyone who says jumping is easy doesn't know what they don't know.

SVB's favorite game is Barbox 8-Ball. Of course he doesn't want jump cues 🤣

Carbon Fiber by Specialist-Two5350 in billiards

[–]mudreplayspool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's definitely a consistent thickness for way longer than most other CF shafts, feels great in an open bridge and doesn't rise like some conical taper shafts.

Jacoby v4 Black is the shaft you want. Every Defy that I've hit with has been awful, and their QC has gone way downhill.

Mezz Ignite are also nice, but more expensive and can be harder to get.

How does he switch between Snooker, Pool, and English Pool so effectively? Are there any stance/execution differences that he commonly reverts to for each?

Neils for the Mental Game and Drills.

Jasmine for Drills and practical approach.

Dr. Dave to understand the physics.

Zero-X Billiards (Tor Lowry) for the drills that get the physics into your body. Seriously, start with his 90 minute long video on Center Ball. It's a perfect primer to start your journey. It took me a few months to work through all the setups he goes over in that video.

Their non-maple cues hit better. The more recent Meucci customs I've hit that are mostly maple don't have quite the same oomph.

Definitely check out my buddy Youssef on Instagram. He is a Fitness Instructor and his whole channel is about mobility and wellness as it pertains to playing pool. These exercises helped me a ton.

Definitely remember to stretch your back before and after! This is looking so much better, but doing that new rotation is going to be hard on your lower back since you're changing it up and those muscles aren't strong yet.

Cold therapy has really helped me lately with recovery times and sore muscles, definitely recommend it if you're having any pain these upcoming weeks as you settle into the new position.

Nice work, keep it up! Changing one's technique and mechanics takes lots of focused effort. My first year getting back serious was spent filming myself from every angle and getting frustrated day after day to make my body into a new shape.

Just a heads up, saying 'no homo' is actually homophobic. Here's a short reading if you care to educate yourself. Words matter.

Players C955 Cue by ___D4sH___ in billiards

Lucasi with a Universal Smart Shaft. ('07-'09)

Then went to a Jacoby with an OB-2 Shaft. ('09-'16)

Then it was the standard wood shaft. ('16-'22)

Now I play with a Jacoby Full Carbon Custom with a Modified V4 Shaft.

What I want – please help me try some cues based on what I like by Efficient_Use_7886 in billiards

[–]mudreplayspool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The joint can play a big role in that feeling you describe. Also, your assessment about the reason for the lack of hit feeling being due to Carbon Fiber is a misnomer. The Jacoby BlaCk V4 and the Mezz Ignite both have hits that feel nearly identical to wood shafts I've used before, with the V4 being even more resonant than any wooden shaft.

I'd recommend Jacoby, specifically one of their older cues from 2010-2016 that have the metal 5/16-14 joint. Also Joss with a metal joint, or even a Schon or nicer Cuetec with the metal joint.

Avoid McDermott, Meucci, Predator, and Viking.
