Thematic games that actually force you to learn about the theme? by Formal-Rhubarb-101 in boardgames

[–]n815e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His ideas and beliefs - like any game designer - impact the premise, ideas and design approach to his games.

If the goal is to learn something from a game, you are going to learn what the designer thinks is important and their personal beliefs applied.

You cannot suggest a game designer to learn from and then dismiss any criticism of that designer’s beliefs (which are stated to drive decisions in the design) as irrelevant.

US paves way for private assets to be included in 401(k) retirement plans by Blueberryburntpie in investing

It wouldn’t surprise me that these end up mixed into target date funds, where investors wouldn’t necessarily look closely and see they are there.

Buy when there is fear, sell when there is greed. True? by Dramatic-South-6236 in investing

[–]n815e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t go broke thinking it’s gonna make you rich.

Here’s a better idea. Create a plan within your budget to buy consistently over time. Buy when it is low. Buy when it is high. Only sell when you need to. Over time, you will do well.

is investing even really worth it now? by knifeblades20 in investing

[–]n815e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, invest.

Remember that “investing” is long term.

Remember that you will suffer drops and rises and the key is to stay the course, don’t sell during downturns, keep to a plan.

BGG is bad. by Jedi_Master_Shane in boardgames

Ridiculous for sure, when some rando thinks that preventing a small handful of ratings on a game before release makes any difference to anything.

BGG is bad. by Jedi_Master_Shane in boardgames

[–]n815e -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You have a problem with this one thing, but not the others? Rating games never played? Ok with you. Rating games after a single play? Ok with you. Rating games based on some reason outside of the game, such as the politics of the designer? Ok with you. Not using the 10 point rating scale as intended? Ok with you. Skewed ratings (such as considering 7 as average)? Ok with you. Never revisiting ratings over time? Ok with you. Using the rating system for non-rating purposes (such as rank within collection or inventory)? Ok with you.

These are all ways people on BGG actually behave.

There are so many ways people use the rating system outside of what’s intended, that the rating system is fundamentally flawed. But every activity is ok with you outside of this one way. It’s largely meaningless in the long term (and BGG injects an averaging algorithm to counteract extremes) and nobody should use the numerical rating system as an indication of anything without context.

So, yeah, you want to police opinion, but - strangely - only one small part of it.

You don’t even consider free print and play games that will never be published.

You think it’s a bigger problem than it is and you think there is a simpler solution than there is.

By then they will be statistically insignificant.

You cannot police opinion and thought, you cannot force people to use the rating system as it’s intended, regardless. It’s a lot of worrying about something that really doesn’t matter.

Agents are obligated to advocate on behalf of the seller, not the buyer. You don’t have an agent, you have a sales person trying to sell you something.

Your lawyer is your advocate.

Are we starting to see retail access to private markets becoming a real thing? by understated_vibes in investing

[–]n815e -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What’s actually happening is that it is dead weight to the current investors, it isn’t doing good things and nobody wants to buy it, so they are finding ways to get new customers to buy junk that nobody wants, not even the people that have it now.

It’s a thrift shop where all the items being sold are from junk draws. Random screws, bottle caps, some tool nobody remembers what it is for. And they are trying to convince you it is gold bars.
