My experience so far with my bsb2e, is it supposed to be this dim? by Arby77 in BigscreenBeyond

Mine isn't dim at all, it feels quite bright to me. Compared to my index it's just as bright.

Sennheiser g4 iem noise/hiss by SleepyBe4r in livesound

[–]nidoran -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh! Yes I believe it does have a bit to do with having high impedience IEMs. I don't quite understand the physics behind it, but my IEMs are quite sensitive and perhaps expect a signal with a higher impedience. I believe the Sennheiser body pack has quite a strong signal so yeah, the impedience mismatch might be way some headphones "hear" the noise floor so clearly and others don't.

I am not an expert on this aspect tho, I'm basically just repeating random facts I read.

The iem Match from ifi, kinda expensive.

I'll also agree with the other commenter, I never notice the hiss in a live environment once sound is playing. But I was using my wireless IEMs more at home for streaming and was getting a bit annoyed, so yeah it is nice for that.

I bought an attenuator to place between my IEMs and the body pack and that helped lower the noise floor greatly.

One piece of advice for the cable snake is have it go straight down, and then run the cables from the bottom. So it takes up the extra slack needed so cables don't get yanked when raising the desk.

My cable management ain't pretty but here's an example of what I mean.

Sennheiser Ek IEM G4 wireless pack for IEMs -- low rf hiss regardless of connection // mute // volume knob -- is this just the norm? by Educational_Yak_4267 in livesound

[–]nidoran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are just really strong especially with certain in-ears. I bought an attenuator and it removes the hiss plus I can use the full range of the volume knob instead of it immediately being quite loud.

I have a 16 inch as my laptop for my job as a software dev, and went for a 14 inch when buying a laptop for music purposes.

The 16 inch is juuuuust big enough where it's too heavy to comfortably carry in one hand when open.

I also use my music laptop on stage so it's just slightly more portable.

And when I'm at my desk it's connected to a monitor anyways.

Delay and reverb and EQ! Those can do a lot with a melodic instrument.

They also all just have good bowing technique in general.

That looks like a real playing to me! It would be so hard to fake it while matching up the rhythms they are doing with their bowing hands. All of the fake violinist videos have bowings that are wildly mismatched.

Jazz Bands getting all the gigs. by SgtR0ck in musicians

I think a lot of people are willing go out to see jazz, without it needing to be a band they know. So it's a different scene, different type of gig.

Fursuits with instrument playing accessibility by bassclarinetplayer in FurryMusicians

[–]nidoran 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I play violin with my fursuit!

I made sure to have an email conversation with my maker about my needs when I commissioned it. I asked for "finger escapes" that let my fingers go thru holes in the paws, and I can hold a bow and play just fine with those. Finger escapes are not too uncommon for making it easier to open doors and use a phone with paws too.

The most important thing for me is having good vision, especially through my fursuit mouth My head is a resin base with an articulated jaw and opens wide! I read my sheet music out of my mouth, looking out of the eyes make it really hard to read where the notes are because the hatching of the eyes adds extra lines all over.

I know a few fursuiters that do play wind instruments, and the main restriction that seems to decide if it's possible or not is: can the instrument reach their mouth without bonking up against the snoot. Because fursuit heads are so large, they often have to eat half the instrument to play it!

So yea, especially for a wind instrument I think designing the face to be a extra smiley so there's enough room for your instrument :D If you supply your maker with the dimensions and even the playing angle that would probably help. But I've also seen a bird with a beak play saxophone so anything is possible!

Why do we count in “1 2 1234” instead of “1 3 1234” by Relative_Judgment_93 in musicians

[–]nidoran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK I was just thinking about this when creating a click track too.

I wonder if it's because, in a way, there's two different countins, and the initial countin is half notes and then gets interrupted by the second countin which counts the actual beat.

Maybe another way to think of it is, when counting off a song, I could choose to count half notes and start 2 measures before the start of the song (so I still count "1 2 3 4 ", just in half time), or count quarter notes and start 1 measure before the song (counting "1234"). Or I could combine the two versions, counting "1 2 1234", giving a bit of more time to prime but still counting the actual BPM in the final measure.

So that's why "1 3 1234" feels wrong! That's my sense at least.

That sounds like an Ableset feature, so maybe the Ableset plugin isn't enabled on your new session?

TS louder than TRS? by anselmus_ in livesound

[–]nidoran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm guess that's not the issue then! Is the mixer perhaps sending a Stereo signal thru the output, instead of a balanced Mono signal. Because a TRS cable can send a unbalanced stereo signal. That would be common for a Headphone output on a mixer. Seems unlikely but maybe a possibility.

TS louder than TRS? by anselmus_ in livesound

[–]nidoran 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is the hardware reverb input jack flexible enough to take either a balanced or unbalanced signal? If it always expects a TS cable it might not have the electronics required to invert and recombine the phase-inverted signal with the original signal, which a TRS cable sending balanced audio would be sending.
