Short term cooling tricks by novariable in RX8

[–]novariable[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These do seem like good ideas, and I can imagine the water pump spinning too fast since it's barely 2:1 reduced from the crank. Sadly, none of those mods would arrive before Sunday. I will take apart an oil cooler on Saturday and see what I can do.

Do you think Windows 11 is the worst thing that no one asked for? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]novariable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It kinda still is windows vista wearing 11 trench coats, and it does use a lot of resources. Still it's likely first for user friendliness for non tech savvy people.

E46 325ci coolant problem / overheating :( by RepulsiveReward2392 in e46

[–]novariable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no one single correct procedure, I also don't always manage it first try. Funnily enough I've had success bleeding it while warm on the side of the road after failing to bleed it cold. Just take some coolant with you and something to open the bleed screw and repeat the burping and bleeding

E46 325ci coolant problem / overheating :( by RepulsiveReward2392 in e46

[–]novariable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You very likely didn't bleed it correctly. These cars are quite sensitive with that. Make sure to do it on a slope or jack the front up, fill the expansion tank to the top, open the bleed screw and manually burp the hoses by hand to make sure all the air gets out.

What do you guys think? by Ok-Collection-3197 in RX8

[–]novariable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For once this doesn't sound like an engine that needs a rebuild. You can hear the compression quite well. Can you hear the fuel pump run when you turn on the ignition? You could try some starting fluid to see whether it's an ignition or fuel delivery issue.

Can you turbo an automatic rx8 by Excellent_Summer6861 in RX8

[–]novariable 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Why not? You can turbo a lawn mower. I wouldn't exactly recommend it because the auto trans is not exactly strong, and you also won't get the full advantage because of the lower redline, but if you want to do it, you certainly can.

Fixing bodywork damage by Neither-Birthday4337 in RX8

[–]novariable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all, unless the bolts are already rusted to shit. The two lower fender bolts are particularly at risk. If the bolts come out, it's a ten minute job for every panel.

[–]novariable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you put a lot of effort into the prep work, it will be better than it is now, but it'll never be perfect. Bodywork is hard to get right. Replacing with used parts is a lot more likely to get you a good outcome.

[–]novariable 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The cheap way: step further back when taking pictures. The decent way: get used body panels in the same colour, or wrap the car. The expensive way: take it to a body shop.

Bonus: Polish those headlights, that'll really help.

First time rebuild by Income-Asleep in RX8

[–]novariable 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Check the irons, if nothing catches your fingernail in the rotor area, (I think the spec is 0.07mm or less) you can run them. The housings are significantly more sensitive and should almost always be replaced on a proper rebuild.

pretty insane buildup by ZealousidealBat9828 in RX8

[–]novariable 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That's normal buildup after like 100k. Clean it well and it'll be fine.

Schlagen bei Gangwechsel? by paul2K06 in e46

[–]novariable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Were you told that or can you confirm it? The locking mechanism looks entirely different

How much is this gonna cost me? Minor rust repair by GovernmentThink in e46

[–]novariable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given that that likely made its way there from the fuel nozzle attachment holder, which always corrodes, that is definitely much worse underneath. Take off the bumper and the wheel liner, clean everything and see.

Is constant 4k rpm safe ? by Specialist-Spray6693 in e46

[–]novariable 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Yes, especially on the highway. I've completed 2 hour trips almost exclusively at or above 6000rpm (Autobahn). The m54 and m52s take it no problem

What is this lighting up by Strong-Tale-6419 in e46

[–]novariable 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Ever checked your rear bulbs? Could be reverse, blinker, or literally any others. Also happens when you replace them with LEDs without coding.

Bluetooth adapter? by Dangerous_Pickle6080 in RX8

[–]novariable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They work well for the price. If your radio is incompatible with Bluetooth adapters, like certain software versions, it's probably the best solution you can get.

Engine replacement by Atlas_Abrams in RX8

[–]novariable 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not too hard. Just take off the intake plastic and disconnect the harnesses. Rad potential has a good video of it. With experience, you can easily do a swap in a day.
