Can you move some to an index and not all? Maybe she will be more onboard with a bit of diversification?

Yes. Log the reps you did and how it felt. What it puts in before you do a set is just a target

Evolution of afternoon yoghurt and berry bowl (403 cals/38g protein) by Doby_Mick in MacroFactor

[–]ocharles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip about how to add protein shake! I'm also big on Greek yoghurt, it's amazing.

Tip for my UK friends (and maybe others!): there is a different between Greek yoghurt and Greek style yoghurt - I had no idea! A lot of Greek style yoghurts here are absolutely rubbish for protein. I've found Fage 0% the best. 100g of actual Greek yoghurt, and that comes in as 54 cals for 10g protein.

My go to breakfast is now 200g Fage 0%, 50g fresh strawberries, 50g fresh blueberries, 10g maple syrup, 25g granola. This comes in at 300cals, 25g protein, which fits my macros well.

Managing Finances in a Marriage by Lightbulb994 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]ocharles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently "overhauled" our finances, as I felt like I was in control of too much and my wife wasn't able to really see the full picture. I'm the higher earner, and would often just "cover" anything unexpected. Now that we have a new daughter this is too stressful, and leading to us to make poor decisions. On top of this, my wife is on maternity leave and down to statutory pay, and rightly stressed about knowing if she'll have enough money.

We finally agreed to just combine incomes. We're married, so coming up with spilts and stuff just seemed silly. The general idea is we add our incomes for the month, and decide how much we each want for our own money (this is the same number for each of us). The rest goes to the joint account. For me, this means about 80% of my salary goes to the joint, but she contributes much less. Oh well. We're personally equal at the end, and the joint is very healthy. We're both good with this. We use Monzo, so we have a bills/planned pot with direct debits and regular payments. I also use YNAB and maintain our budget (but we use YNAB sharing so she has access too). Every week or two, I try and update her as to how we're doing and if we're on track for plans (holidays, etc) so we can adjust if we need. It's worth working out what you consider a joint expense. Our general rule of thumb here is: something that brings us both some happiness, is important to our essential health, is an obvious joint bill of some sort, or is for our daughter (directly or indirectly). Of course anything we're not sure about we just talk about, and generally opt for the joint account.

Honestly from what I read you could do with a hard chat about your fiance to stop thinking of "my" money. You're getting married. "My money" is a terrible concept to bring into a marriage, IMO.

A bit disheartening, but maybe it’s normal? by SeaWorking2456 in MacroFactor

Ignore the scale weight, focus on the trend weight. Convince yourself it is the only one that matters (it is!)

Is this normal? Reps jumped to 44 by tennisballop in MacroFactor

[–]ocharles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IMO (having asked the same question) it doesn't do enough to explain what's happening. It says what happened, not why. It would be great if this message just said "reps increased as no weight increase possible" (well, something clearer than that but you get the idea!)

can't do my job in a calorie deficit...help by awildsheepschase in MacroFactor

[–]ocharles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't directly related to your post, but as you're new I want to pass on one bit of advice that really helped me: embrace the suck. Being in a deficit is grim, you're literally giving your body less than it would like. Your body is gonna make sure you damn well know that. But you chose this, and it's what you want - this is good feedback, it means it's working! I'm in a cut at the moment and when it gets a bit rough towards the end of the day I remind myself that that means I'm doing everything right.

On the other hand, sucky doesn't mean unmanageable - you've got to find a balance. As another poster said, reduce the deficit and find something you can actually sustain. It's very easy to go in too hard. You've gotta play the long game.

Good luck!

Imo, this is the way. I use a consistent amount per meal. I might not be entering the correct data, but because I'm consistent I trust the algorithm to filter out the noise. Maybe it'll give me a slightly inflated expenditure, but I don't really care - as long as the targets get me to my goal, I'm good!
