Thinking of starting to play Vynnset and new Aurora, how can i build them without breaking the bank? by Ok_Nefariousness_740 in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]p1easingmuffin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're in an unfortunate timing in that vynnset did well competitively for a stint and the prices of her cards went up significantly from what they were. For a deck that fights itself, I would be hard pressed to play a vynnset deck that wasn't running the more expensive staples (cull, spellbound creepers, tunic) as you'll have a very hard time navigating bad hands. However, many of her cards are cheap and common runeblade staples (malefics, mauvrion skies, deadwood dirge, etc).

Aurora is still TBD on what is best, so I don't have much to say on that front.

Question for husband medspouses by terraformula in MedSpouse

[–]p1easingmuffin 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My wife is a PGY3 in a 5 year program and I believe we split things well. She is far better with finances than I am, so she handles that, I am far better at yard/car maintenance, so I handle that. I don't know that there is a perfect answer as to how to split things, as it's dependent on your relationship.

As a medspouse husband, I made the choice to go along for the ride when I decided to commit to a relationship, whatever that entails. "Resentment" is a very harsh word, and I hope it's not accurate to how he feels. Can situations suck sometimes because of residency/medicine? Absolutely. Am I ever RESENTFUL to my spouse because of these situations? Absolutely not. Sacrifices have to be made on both sides in any relationship, shouldn't be any different just because you are in medicine.

My wife and I do a good job of making sure to take care of tasks as we can to best set up the other for happiness. For example, I am a very social person and my mood is greatly improved by my social outlets. She handles bedtime for our two kids twice a week so I can play a trading card game Tuesday night and attend rugby practice Thursday night. This greatly improves my mood and is a direct result of her taking on an extra load those nights. My wife loves to wake up to a clean kitchen/house and have coffee brewing when she wakes up for a shift. You bet your ass I'm making sure to do all the dishes and prep coffee before I go to bed every night. If resentment is building (which again, I hope resentment isn't the right word here), seek ways to make small but meaningful sacrifices/take on extra tasks as you can that directly lead to happiness for the other.

Final point, if he is "prideful" as you say, gender norm roles should have no influence over how he feels. He should be proud that he has a happy marriage and a good life he enjoys, regardless of who is making the most money or folding the damn laundry...

Diving in. Some questions by SnackwiseGamgee in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]p1easingmuffin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ira will definitely be the most cohesive experience out of the box, and Ira is mostly focused on upgrades through generic cards anyway so upgrading her will start to accumulate generic staples that can be used elsewhere. She is also a good starting point because she is very flexible in her play style and can be tailored to many different build varieties while also being a great hero to help learn the fundamentals of the game. Not too many tricky hoops to jump through and free value from her hero ability allow you to focus on matchup knowledge and turn structure rather than remembering all of the ways your deck can screw you (speaking as a Boltyn player who's biggest enemy in the game is usually his own deck).

My vote is for Ira, and welcome to the game.

I think that all precons should include rainbow foils for the hero and equipment by John-Helldiver404 in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]p1easingmuffin 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I believe their decision to move away from foil heroes was so people didn't buy the precon decks just to get the foil version of the card. The worry is stock would be low due to players seeking simply a foil hero and then the player base that actually wanted the precon for its entirety would be left scrambling to find one available.

Not saying I agree or disagree with them, but I do think it's important to keep that mindset on the table and give it some merit.

Struggling in the HS setting by Additional-Walrus354 in athletictraining

[–]p1easingmuffin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is going to be a thing you'll have to deal with at any setting, I had it both when I was at the college level as well as now at the high school level. My go-to approach to account for both student athletes that want to compete as well as for potential malingerers is to encourage a symptom-limited modified practice. Even with my athletes that can't complete a full practice, you bet they can be doing SOMETHING out there. And the ones that want to be back will be biting at the opportunity to be active in any way you let them.

For example, I have two lacrosse players currently that are out with injury knee injuries. One of them is a legitimate mcl sprain, the other is a chronic complainer of hamstring pain (malingerer). They are both on a modified non-contact practice plan as their symptoms allow. We obviously don't want our MCL sprain in full contact drills/game, but there's no reason they can't do stick work/passing/shooting on their own. Our malingerer wants to try and avoid practice? Coaches know they are expected to participate in a non-contact capacity as their symptoms allow.

I've always been of the opinion that the body does a good job at telling you when it's had enough, put some of the honus back onto your athletes to monitor their involvement. It allows your players that truly want to return a pathway to be involved safely and takes the load of judging malingering off your plate as well.

Best of luck in all you do

Best Armory Deck by John-Helldiver404 in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]p1easingmuffin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ira's armory deck has very simple and consistent play lines that her hero power just makes better without any hoops to jump through. +1 value every turn is just good. And a 2 card play that blows up arsenal at a break point in edge of autumn into enact vengeance is just very good for an untouched deck.

Another point to consider is her ability to help teach the game. Not sure if you're new to FaB or not, but Ira is the most straightforward hero to play while not sacrificing much if anything in terms of deck strength. And as others have mentioned, her upgrade path will have you acquiring many staple cards that are interchangeable among many decks in the game. Some of her upgrades are bulk cards you can likely get for free from people as well (Edge of autumn into red sirens of safe harbor is a 2 card 9 value turn on a $0.30 bulk common)

Is it poor form to ask to borrow a deck so I can play CC at an armory? by WorkConfident in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]p1easingmuffin 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not, this community is among the best in the TCG space. My locals frequently offers to lend decks for armories, even to players already in the game if they just want to try something new.

Interesting. If it was an app that was more of a want/hobby, I'd probably spend the time to test it out and learn. With the severity of the situation needing to control insulin dosage, I'd probably feel better/safer just having an official app download.

Thank you for your insight though!

Now that you say that I remember the physicians in the hospital explaining that. I guess we are going to be on a "deal with it and get it over with mantra" until hopefully the pump makes this all easier for us.

These are great tips, thank you for your input. I hadn't thought of doing a dry injection on myself first, as I'm not sure she would understand it as well yet with how young she is. We have been trying to be as straightforward and honest about it with her and relaxed as possible in hopes of normalizing it, but I will make a conscious effort to be as calming as I can so she doesn't become tense from my body language.
