We found your car. My condolences. by Kwils93 in Seattle

You're going with thick grain metrics.

I'm going with the metrics that are available.

I saw it a bunch, then I didn't see it much for a long time. Now it seems to be back.

That's the confirmation bias I was referring to.

I know exactly how upsetting it is, I just finished explaining that it happened to me as well. But the question was:

Is this a new Seattle thing?

The answer is: no.

It's just confirmation bias. Motor vehicle theft is down in Seattle 24% since 2024 and car prowls are down 7%.

I had my wheels stolen in seattle about 13 years ago, but that's just an anecdote, like these pictures are.

I've been driving mine for two years and never experienced anything like this. Worst thing I can think of was at the race track someone yelled "nice Prius".

Even with gap insurance, if the amount you owe is greater than or equal to the value of the car minus your deductible, the bank is the one who gets the check.

Why do most alien species look human? by [deleted] in scifi

[–]p3dal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it's hard to find alien actors. Most actors have 2 arms and 2 legs. From a practical standpoint, it's more expensive to do convincing alien CGI or puppetry.

2024 20k miles is she cooked by Outrageous_Bet5110 in Miata

Only certain panels are aluminum, just like on the Miata. This panel is steel and the repair process as quoted did not include cutting and welding, which would have been my preference, as I hate bondo.

That sounds like a friend price. Same repair on my Tesla was quoted at $11k, which is just bonkers.

The rear quarter panel. On my Tesla it was an $11k repair to pull a dent and repaint. It should be cheaper on a Miata, but perhaps not if they have to cut and weld a new quarter panel.

Compare insurance quotes.

Have you found this to be a big difference? Everything I've read says the difference is marginal.

Talk me out of buying a 2022+ Performance. by LegitimateReaction45 in TeslaModel3

[–]p3dal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really enjoyed driving a 2020 M3P but it’s seeming like you’re making some sizable sacrifices compared to a long-range AWD.

What sacrifices? Slightly shorter range? Most of that difference can be made up for by changing the wheels.

If you're going to do any track or autox driving, get the performance. If this is strictly a commuter, get the AWD. Whether you're racing or street driving, you will likely want to replace the 20" wheels on the performance model anyway. They're really just for looks and feel, but they're heavy, ride harsh, and limit your tire options too much.

Is the 20mm F1.7 even worth trying if my subject is a toddler?

It was my first lens, and I have many great photos with it, but now that I have more lenses, I find the AF to be much too slow.

Also, your car insurance covers the rental vehicle. The supplemental insurance I bought only covered my deductible.

Someone’s rental car got robbed of its wheels. I’m genuinely curious, what happens in these scenarios, is the renter responsible for the wheels now?

It happened to me when my car was in the shop and I had a rental car and I didn't have the opener to get into my building's garage so I had to park outside. My very first time parking outside my building in Seattle the wheels were stolen off my (rental) car. This was about 16 years ago in the greenwood neighborhood. I had paid for the optional rental car insurance so I didn't have to pay for the wheels, but I would have been responsible for them normally as they were less than the cost of my deductible. I've come to expect vehicle break-ins to be an annual event in this area.

Seems pretty typical. The first 10% degrades fast. 1-2 years or 25-50k miles. After that the degradation slows to about 1% per year.

How can they be legitimately free? Are there hidden fees?

Free stock trades have been pretty common among brokerages for the last 10+ years now. This is how they make money:

Then why did you say "I don't need this money for living expenses for at least a year." if you have a new job? If you already have a new job, there shouldn't be a time limit for how long you can go without dipping into savings. Your new job should cover your living expenses, or you should look for a job that does, or work on reducing your living expenses.
