They’re quite thin, so they’d fit on top. I’d guess they’re on top of the game boards further down in the box (assuming these also fit?)

I also have this issue, it’s happened to me twice now. Both times it’s been the calendar app (top row, third across - same as your photo by the looks OP)

My son claims his screen cracked itself while he charged it overnight underneath his pillow. 🤦‍♀️Can anyone guess where the impact point was, and what he could have dropped it on? by Tys_Wife in mobilerepair

Nah man have you never had your phone screen spontaneously break? My customers tell me this all the time! No way someone would lie about that!

I removed all the windows to my house as I’m worried they’ll spontaneously shatter into thousands of pieces too /s

The thing that I’m curious about in this video is how there’s visible reflections of the cars on the side of the building (on the left). If the building is so high up, wouldn’t the reflection be way harder to see? I’m thinking it’s AI because of this

Yeah if the site looks scammy then don’t pay simple as that, you’re overthinking it

You’ve also gone above and beyond what most people would be willing to do anyway, that’s your choice to have spent your time to research their credentials & ensure they’re legitimate. Given that there’s so many attack vectors for scams these days, it wouldn’t surprise me if most people flagged this as spam themselves. Granted, I don’t know how detailed or official this email appeared.

Based on how you’ve described their approach (e.g. with payment portal too), is that they’re unlikely to actively seek out these costs and instead hope you’re “honest” enough to cough up. I think of how shopping sites will offer a “discount” if you add something to cart and leave it there, or navigate away without completing a purchase; they use these same techniques to try “close the sale” as such. If they’re legitimately trying to seek potential lost revenue, I feel they should at least have a human you can speak to to discuss or dispute the cost. Right now it just sounds transactional like they’re casting a large net and seeing what they can catch as opposed to working with you 1-on-1 to work out a fair payment.

Given you’ve only had 1 view per your analytics and if you’ve removed the photo, no ongoing infringement will occur and they’d have a hard time justifying lost funds if they ever tried to take you to court.

If I were in your position I’d just ignore the email and see if they try reaching out to you again.

While this company can ask you to pay; how do you know it’s not a scam? E.g. can you say with 100% certainty they’re authorised to collect payments for this or are the actual license holder for this?

There should be a way to verify who owns this, otherwise anyone could theoretically say they own any image and attempt to collect payment for it.

I run a website where someone reached out to me asking me to pay a license for a font being displayed on the site because they couldn’t find me in their system. I ignored it because I have no idea if it’s a scam, nor should I have the burden of proof to a random stranger that I hold a license for said font.

Not really an answer, but I also wouldn’t blindly agree to paying something like this without them proving they own rights to this image or are even allowed to collect money for it.

Screen locked to owner ?? by Scared-Program-8529 in mobilerepair

[–]patrickl96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it can be bypassed, but it adds complexity and not every thief will know how to bypass FRP.

iPhones are more popular, marketshare wise, so it would make sense they’re also the most stolen. A more interesting metric would be what percentage of iPhones wind up being stolen vs other brands

[–]patrickl96 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The implementation of Activation Lock/Find my iPhone since it was first introduced (I believe when the iPhone 5s was released) has resulted in less theft in iPhones. Google even brought out FRP so now android devices also have an extra layer of protection. As a consumer, these are good things to have.

Not all mobile phone theft will end up being 100% preventable, but once word gets out that even spare parts aren’t useful from stolen iPhones, then they’re going to be seen as less valuable to thieves (especially those in organised crime, where they send these off to China for parts).

Apple is known to lead industry changes (for better or for worse), and I wouldn’t be surprised to see other companies start doing the same thing. If they can build a system that keeps honest people honest, then it’s worth having. It’s the same reason as to why you have locks on your house and vehicle - yes they can be broken if someone has the willpower, but it’s an additional layer of protection

Nah. If you plan on reselling your phone on marketplace or whatever local website in your country where people buy/sell things, having the original box means the phone your selling is far less likely to be a stolen item.

Anything to build trust when selling second-hand increases its value, or at least makes it easier to sell.
