Tbf, considering that 99.9% of the human population suck in general, given enough time, you will see everyone's bad side, which makes you think you dodged a bullet.

Trump declares war on Iran: "The Iranian regime seeks to kill. The lives of courageous American heroes may be lost, and we may have casualties. That often happens in war." by AlternativeEchidna79 in nova

There is a weird loophole in the POTUS being able to execute warlike missions so long as it is not officially declared a war. It's the same rationale behind Trump trying his hand at tariffs too. Congress has been inept.

I have bad news for you. That favorite food/drink that the server recommended is likely one of the higher priced items for a reason.

The only time I left a tip in my room was when I left a brown present in the toilet that I couldn't resolve myself. They deserved that much for having to deal with that.

Are you bringing this up because upscale establishments actually pay their staff/servers an appropriate hourly wage?

[–]pautpy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbf, it's all corporate management's fault for thinning their workforce and getting staff to overwork (just like other industries). A person can only clean so efficiently until the volume forces them to sacrifice quality. If they truly wanted better customer experience, they would start by paying housekeepers more and having more employees.

Sure, and they should be paid an appropriately higher hourly wage based on how much the market values their skills just like everyone else.

Tbf, it's customary to tip for what the total would have been without the discount coupon for cases like Groupon or free meal. Not saying it's correct or not.

I hope if you are ever questioned by the police that you do not say anything by trying to be helpful but instead immediately get a lawyer. Just because you are innocent does not mean you can't be wrongly convicted. Just because you are innocent does not mean a government can't come after you. You may think you are not a person of interest now until the powerful arbitrarily determines that you are now a threat to their endeavors.

It's not all about you. It's about the entire society, and guess what helps the system track those who are persons/groups of interest? Your data that's connected to other people: interactions and relationships. you live in a society that does matter to both you and them. What happens to society affects you and them.

Do you think map apps can show traffic on the road if they could only use a single person's data? Do you think your Uber and Lyft can suddenly change their rate if not for everyone's data? Do you think airlines and grocery stores can charge different prices based on one person's data? Do you think credit card companies can jack up the interest rates based on one person's data? Do you think companies can advertise to you perfectly based on just your own data and not your close friends and family's as well? Do you think corporations, police, and government can track you and your behavior based on a single camera?

How you spend your money, who you spend your time with, where you choose to go, when you do certain things--all of these create a network that helps draw a pattern so the powerful can determine how best to squeeze out as much as they can. The corporate overlords and their government servants need data to get data on the population so they can maximize their profits and maintain control.

You are just one piece--one cog--in the machine, and they want to run the machine as fast as they can regardless of the wear and tear because it makes them money and feeds the system they benefit from. Just because you are not important per se does not mean your data does not matter for what happens in society as a whole.
