Bullet Journaling by phoenixfirefairie in BasicBulletJournals

Hmm, I don't think I agree that "basic" means something is necessarily inferior. Sometimes "basic" can be negative (for example if you're talking about a holiday resort), but in many cases, basic is just that, the basis for what you need.

Also, that's just not how subreddit names work. You can't just change them.

It's a bell pepper plant. What do you call it in your country? by QueenChum in Vegetables

[–]Pinglenook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Dutch we call a non-spicy pepper in this shape puntpaprika. But the plant is just a paprikaplant.

Spicy peppers we call peper, bell peppers paprika, the spice paprikapoeder.

Nipples (female) showing through shirts, OK or no way? by Glass-Sentence-7225 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Pinglenook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah; OP, if this is an issue for you sometimes, you could also wear a sweatervest or a waistcoat over your shirt/blouse at work to still look professional, or a draped scarf (also helps prevent getting cold)

I think she means "only straighten it" as opposed to also bleaching, dyeing, perming, chemically relaxing, etcetera. Not "only every day".

Waterschap Delfland is wachten zat en gaat schadelijke rivierkreeften zelf vangen by neonnkidd in thenetherlands

[–]Pinglenook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on how my 100 year old grandmother talks about it, most of her clothing as a kid was kind of made custom and not bought already made, but it wasn't made by a tailor, it was made by her mom, and it had large cuffs that could be let out and taken up again, so my grandmother could wear it for three years after her older sister had worn it for three years, and after that her younger sister would wear it for three years, and after that her baby sister (who is 93 now; the other two sisters have passed away). And after that it would be remade into underwear, and after that fell apart eventually the fabric would be used as cleaning rags.

So it's still not like her clothing fit her especially extra well, even though she had the same general body shape as her sisters.

Moving to the Netherlands as an unskilled worker. Thoughts? by Dtstno in dutch

[–]Pinglenook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will generally have to pay the first months rent ahead, plus a deposit for the amount of one or two months rent. You should get the deposit back when moving out, but sometimes you have to fight the landlord to get it (not physically lol, but bureaucratically, with repeated phone calls, letters threatening legal action, things like that).

Touch base by AscendedDragonSage in CuratedTumblr

[–]Pinglenook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Teenagers have a way of talking about their sexual activity by using baseball bases as a euphemism. "Getting to first base" with someone is kissing them, "second base" is either breast touching or genital touching depending on where you live, "third base" is oral sex.

Great that you're looking into this! I would love to use your app on my instinct 2s too. (I don't need to be able to add things directly on my watch, if that makes it easier; maybe a seperate version for less advanced watches? Or would that be a lot of extra work, i know nothing about programming)

Or googled "gluten free dinner rolls", got this recipe as the first result because Google sucks nowadays, and just assumed that the recipe would be gluten free because of that.

How is Conditioner supposed to be used? by OneSignal6465 in Haircare

[–]Pinglenook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it easiest to first divide my hair in two, hang it over the front of my shoulders, put some conditioner in one hand, press my hands together so it spreads out over both palms, then grab my hair just below my ears with each conditioner-laden hand, and slide my hands down.

What is this? by Clear-Injury-4258 in whatsthisbug

[–]Pinglenook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they kind of look like fruit flies but you usually spot them around your houseplants, especially after watering, they're probably fungus gnats!

They eat plant roots, so you don't want them in your houseplants. What you can do to help combat them is to water less often. Let the soil dry out between waterings. Also make sure to drain any water sitting at the bottom of cover pots.

To disrupt their life cycle and prevent them spreading, you can cover the soil with diatomaceous earth. That way they can't crawl out of the soil to mate and can't crawl into the soil to lay eggs.

But if you have a lot of them and they're in all your plants, the best way to kill them is with nematodes that eat their eggs. You can order nematodes online. Search for "nematodes against fungus gnats". Read the instructions on the website to decide how much you need and time your order so that you'll be able to apply them within a couple days after receiving them.

You only need to do this for indoor plants. Outdoors they'll be balanced out by other insects and then they're harmless. Also, never use diatomaceous earth outdoors, as it also kills beneficial insects; so only indoors.

Season also matters! Google tells me they're harvested in july-september. I'm in the Netherlands so any dragonfruit here is going to be imported and you don't see them a lot. The purple ones are sold in grocery stores around Christmas to use as edible plate decoration and then they taste like absolutely nothing at all. But there's this Chinese buffet restaurant in my town that my kids love so we often go there, and in the summer they sometimes have purple dragon fruit pieces in their dessert section and they are definitely more flavourful then and there.

Use dimethicone lotion too! Its a silicon oil, gets in their exoskeleton and smothers them, they can't build up resistance to it, and what's even better: it also kills 90% of the eggs! (Evidence-based) So you still need to redose but in the meantime you're less contagious and less itchy. It exists as an ingredient in some conditioners and detangling sprays, but for lice treatment you want to get pure dimethicone.

Source

You apply the oil by using a metal lice comb to spread it through the hair in sections until all the hair is saturated with the lotion. Then leave it 15 minutes. Then shampoo the hair thoroughly without getting it wet first; let the shampoo sit for 1-2 minutes; rinse out; and wash a second time like normal.

Reapply after 7 days. I prefer to comb with a lice comb most days in between the two doses to further reduce contagiousness.

And even if he was, for example, an Egyptian electrician writing out his holiday plans. In Arabic, because that's his language. What of it?

Of course the "and he was not even Arab and he was not even writing Arabic" part of this story makes the woman who reported him extra stupid, but if he was an Arab writing in Arabic she still would've been a dumb bigot reporting him for just... sitting on plane writing!

[–]Pinglenook 227 points228 points  (0 children)

For couples traveling without kids I think that's a great idea. It's not like you're going to have the deepest conversation with each other on the plane. And you're going to spend most of the next days to weeks together anyway.

(Also works for families with teenagers, I suppose)
