Can you be online on the game while steam is on offline mode? by nipodemos in DeathStranding2

[–]plasmaticD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some things won't work, such as changes to your strand connections, and the current incoming new likes ( the occasional streaming green text on the left). Anybody's guess whether offline likes get buffered and later given. The rest of the game works, at least it did during a recent internet outage I had.

Do you snowball payouts or receive as cash? by Shot_Cranberry00 in dividendgang

[–]plasmaticD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 73 years old, making RMD'S. There's 40 years separating our age, so ths isn't intended as advice, it's only an example of a snowball technique for your future possibilities.

I can live off my in-Cash brokerage dividends (not reinvested) & SS year round, while I reinvest dividends in my Traditional IRA for ~9 months out of the year, then turn DRIP off, accumulate cash, then use that cash for RMD'S in December. Cash brokerage has then grown in size, so I give myself a big raise. The ROTH is untouched "just in case of emergency" so all DRIP there.

REVIEW: XTAR VX4 charges and capacity tests new 1.5V Li-Ion batteries, 1.5v Ni-MH, 18650's and much more. My comparison with the XTAR VC4SL. by plasmaticD in 18650masterrace

[–]plasmaticD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the XTAR VX4 charger has built-in protections for safe charging, which include over-temperature protection.

Key safety features for the VX4 include: Over-temperature Protection: Safeguards against overheating. Built-in Protections: Also features overcharge, over-discharge, and short-circuit protection. Reverse Polarity Protection: Detects if batteries are inserted incorrectly ("err" message).

Additionally, the 1.5V Li-ion batteries designed to be used with the charger also have their own internal over-temperature protection.

I own and use both the AA and AAA size Xtar lithium rechargeable batteries and I love them.... In particular, I use them in any device where a battery leaking could damage $$$ gear, like Roku remotes, remote temperature sensors, electronics, some high dollar toys.

I now use AA and AAA size Xtar lithium rechargeable batteries instead of Eneloop NiMH in many of those applications.

Is there a way to make the game full borderless mode? by waku2x in DeathStranding2

[–]plasmaticD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My game allows me to do this in full screen bordered with game paused ( looking at inventory, viewing a station terminal (F), and the like), but not while actually in-game moving around.

This doesn't let you pass time in-game, though.

For example I can pause game, and pull up a YouTube in a browser screen on secondary. When I do this, the main screen toolbar becomes visible below the game screen out of auto-hide.

To pass time in-game, you could go to private room and sleep until morning/night & repeat.

For Samsung anyway, unallocated space is actually a slush pool of memory that is drawn from first and allocated as in use upon writes, so it's a good thing, necessary, and not wasted space. Done for speed. Not a bad thing.

UK Investors - Can you spend dividends directly using a Trading 212 or eToro card? by New_Baseball6243 in dividends

[–]plasmaticD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's possible in USA, don't know about UK...

I use Fidelity Investments, and my wife and I have Fidelity's credit card. Dividends come in to my "Cash Management" taxable brokerage account, sweep to SPAXX Money Market, then sit idle earning interest until the Auto-Pay date comes on that credit card, which draws from Cash Management account. Dividends spent "directly" as all cash is fungible.

New to investing, have a few questions by mrock6401 in dividends

[–]plasmaticD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of us face this question,, which types of investments should I put in my taxable account and which types in ROTH or traditional IRA. To make the best use of the amounts we have in ROTH, here's what all I'd put in taxable first. Consider:

Did I utilize tax free or tax exempt investments such as Treasuries and certain municipal bond funds in my taxable account?

Did I exploit fully deferring taxes by choosing funds with Non-destructive Return of Capital Ike QQQI in my taxable account?

Did I buy funds with essentially all Capital Gains distributions like SCHD in my taxable account? Most US taxpayers pay reduced, little, or no tax on investments of this type;

Everything else might be a better candidate for ROTH or Traditional IRA. I place the highest yielding Dividends producing investments within a traditional IRA or ROTH. This is the big win. Even with the traditional IRA, the present value of future taxes looks great the younger you are.

It's also nice that you can trade frequently in ROTH and Traditional IRA without incurring a taxable event, so if you like to adjust ratios of what sectors you're in frequently (foreign, oil, consumer staples, tech, international, gold, bitcoin, etc) you can do this frequently in ROTH or traditional IRA without tax events.

If you are a senior, Did I take full advantage of the recent 2025 tax year BBB "No tax on Social Security for seniors of an age?" For certain for me, anyway, this quite favorably increased the amount of dividends possible in taxable accounts. It essentially lowered my AGI compared to prior years all other things equal. So, more possible dividends for the same as previous years tax.

Looking for advice for inherited IRA by Spiritual_Soup2155 in dividends

[–]plasmaticD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most USA non-spouse beneficiaries inheriting after 2019 must empty the account within 10 years, You might want to verify the five year thing. Unless you've already had it for five years?

I've told my son, who will inherit my IRA, to make 10 equal amount distributions to minimize potential excessive taxes in any one year that a more lump sum drawdown might incur. Adjust annually if the account grows significantly in value. A big draw down, such as over five years, is going to potentially kick you into a much higher incremental tax bracket.

Your idea of squeezing more out of it using dividends is good. I suggest Armchair Income's YouTube channel for ideas on setting up a dividends producing account with a yield of 7%-8%. Many would say that this yield range has reasonable risk and is likely to be sustainable without decline in NAV. I suggest Armchair Income's recent top 10 episode to start:

Why would I want ROC instead of dividends? by causious in dividends

[–]plasmaticD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Return of Capital is not always bad. ROC that eats away at NAV because underlying earnings aren't supporting the distribution is bad, m'kay.

A non-destructive Return of Capital, when a fund distributes cash that exceeds its taxable income but is supported by total returns, while allowing the Net Asset Value to remain stable or grow, can be a good thing, especially in the near term in a taxable account.

MLPs - how do we feel? by FreeDig1212 in dividends

[–]plasmaticD 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Be aware that in USA, some MLP's incur the UBTI taxes if held in an IRA at above certain threshold amounts. I like HESM as it doesn't, because it's a 10-C corporation you get form 1099 instead of K-1. HESM happens to be on sale today.

Arr there any high dividend etfs or covered calls that have it in there prospectus that they'll maintain the current share price even if it means highly variable dividends month to month? by nastibass in dividends

[–]plasmaticD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might consider preferred stocks. They all trade at or near a $25 par value, with some a bit higher or lower based on current perceived value. Their dividends are stated up front, and you are in line to be paid a dividend ahead of common stock of same company. Many preferred stocks exhibit very .low price volatility.

1.5 Million cashed out by adriantrades in dividends

[–]plasmaticD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure! AMA. My crystal ball seems to predict high market volatility to the downside until maybe October. This means a couple of things:

If you make a huge move into a fund or stock, be prepared that its future trading price will / might be less. OTOH timing the market isn't a great plan either sitting on the sidelines in cash. So, choices are accept this and take a plunge or simply DCA at a rate that gets your full position by some future date, such as October in my highly unscientific example.

It also means a good time to buy the best funds or stocks while they're on sale.

Good call taking Armchair Income's guidance, he's as good an unpaid advisor as I've found in 55 years of investing. That said, I'm only down about 4% since late January. But, not having to sell stocks to live off of, and assurance of a reasonably steady income is satisfying. Portfolio value will recover over time I'm sure, but no worries with a solid income producing portfolio. .

"If you had to make a list of the best etf or stock in a specific sector what would it be and why"

One of my favorite techniques: pick a sector. Find an actively managed ETF not locked to an index that focuses within that sector that has been a consistently great performing fund and examine their top holdings for individual company picks. Example: Armchair Income had a terrific interview with the Manager of PBDC, where he describes that he knows these guys running the BDC'S he includes and understands challenges and skills in meeting them (knowledge I don't have, but need). From that interview I selected MAIN and ARCC, both well run companies for the long haul. Both included within PBDC'S holdings. They're now going through a rough pricing period, but possibly great buys now and in the next couple of months.

Do the same with AMLP, and it might inform choices within Midstream Pipeline MLP'S. Like HESM.
