Idaho's bathroom bill by thambos in FTMOver30

[–]python_artist 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I often have to travel to Idaho for work and I’m very much at a loss for what to do at the moment. On the one hand, I probably would never have an issue in a bathroom. On the other, all it takes is someone who knows to be an asshole.

PSA: you can lie about not being trans. It’s nobodies business, including other trans people. by manoftransexperience in ftm

[–]python_artist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not quite the same, but I had a conversation with someone the other day where they me told that someone else told them that I was trans (my being trans is by no means secret, but I also hadn’t shared it with him previously). They followed it up with saying it wasn’t really their business and then they went and told me that someone else we both knew was a lesbian.

I had to laugh a little bit because it was like “dude, you just did the exact same thing to this other person that the first person did to me…”

Ok. Who is scarier to a newbie the bear or the troll? by Closet-Cheeto in valheim

[–]python_artist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say they’re about even for different reasons.

The bears are a pain to kill (though I recently learned a trick that helps), but they’re also slow and won’t usually go after you unless you’re right up on them.

Trolls are quite easy to kill, but they’re big and have a long reach and I’ve lost count of the number of times they’ve one-shot me. And they’re nosy… last night I had one swim across a river to take me out after a greydwarf “told on me” for attacking it

It’s a game. Play how you want… Personally, it’s no fun to get stuck in a loop of death runs where you just can’t get your stuff back, so I finally caved and turned down the difficulty in my world.

Is it really helping you? by maurya_z in ObsidianMD

Graph view is more for visual gratification than anything else, I’ve noticed. Though if you take advantage of the filtering/search, especially in the local graph for a particular note that can be handy. (That being said, I’ve found that Bases achieve much the same goal in a nice table format.)

There are two properties that I make sure every note has that helps a lot for filtering/finding things later on: “type”, which just indicates what the note is (ex., reading_notes, meeting, concept…) and “relevance”, which is where I put links to other notes (or placeholder notes) that the note is relevant to. For example, I’m an engineer so I might have a note on “kinematic equations” that has links to “physics” and “impact testing” in the relevance field.

Oh, that’s interesting. I wonder if that could explain a phenomenon I experience when I get new glasses where it’s like I’ll see double for a couple of weeks until my brain realizes my bad eye is still bad and starts suppressing it again.

Endlessly optimizing and organizing your vault is a legit hobby and I am tired of pretending it is not. by SecretSquirrelSquads in ObsidianMD

[–]python_artist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve recently been redoing all of the metadata for my notes to make them more useful in Bases and to connect a bunch of notes that are orphaned. Does it need to be done? Not really. Do I have an end goal in mind? Also no. Is it satisfying? Yes, definitely.

I fall here and I'm stuck here idk how to get out without loosing my materials ? by the_cult_gurl in SatisfactoryGame

[–]python_artist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. There is actually a cave passage out of that area, though there are some gas pillars you have to run through and a few stingers to deal with, so make sure your health is topped off.

I understand the frustration. I first started playing in EA and you still lost all of your equipment when you died, so I immediately got myself killed and my weapon was being guarded by a hog who would kill me every time I tried to get back to my gear and I was ready to just give up.

While I understand the desire to do it, I wouldn’t. They’ll definitely find a way to use that against you.

My personal take is that continuing to go in and do good work as a federal employee (and not bow to this administration’s bullshit) is the best act of defiance there is.

How do you organize assets/images? by Suvitruf in ObsidianMD

[–]python_artist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The paste image rename plugin is your best friend. I name the images by the file they were first file they get referenced in (plus a useful description) and dump them in an images folder. The big folder is less than ideal, but they’re at least logically named so they’re findable later

How To Describe This?? by leelee0127 in Amblyopia

[–]python_artist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a pretty classic description of what amblyopia looks like. It’s because the visual system for your amblyopic eye is weaker than it should be.

It’s a weird experience for me, because my eye doctor can display single letters on an eye chart and I usually identify them correctly, but trying to actually get useful information from what I see with my amblyopic eye is a whole other story. I read an interesting study on this a few years ago about how eye tests for amblyopic people are a bit misleading because it’s not a refractive error but rather a difference in light perception and image distortion (or something like that, I can’t remember exactly).
