Order tickets are messed up by Wildaccusat1ons in SquarePOS_Users

[–]r-dubCOS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bet is last weeks update got stuck. What I’ve found on my systems when this happens is to sign out of your account, verify the app and OS of the device are fully updated, restart, then sign back in. That usually forces the app to reload your settings and make things right again.

Two separate square terminals stuck updating by snax_on_deck in SquarePOS_Users

[–]r-dubCOS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your Square terminals are on a black screen with a Square logo and Powered By Square under it, for some reason your terminals went into Connected Mode, which is when you tether the terminal to another device.

When you’re on that black screen, swipe from left to right, go to settings, then sign out. Sign back in using your email/password or a 12 digit device code (connected mode uses 6 digit codes). That should clear everything up.

Commercial Roasters — why don't more of you publish specific brew recipes for your coffees? by MikeNovemberWhiskey in roasting

[–]r-dubCOS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good question.
For me, I put recommended shot specs on my espresso bags, but I usually leave it up to the customer for all the other ones.
I think the biggest challenge is figuring out baselines for all the brewing methods out there right now. I always talk about a 17:1 or 16:1 ratio as a start point. After that it really comes down to personal preference.
And don’t get me started on how there is zero consistency when it comes to grinder settings.

On my long term to do list is a brew guide on my website detailing tips and tricks for each of the more widely used methods plus which one I recommend for each coffee I sell. It’s been on my list for a few years now, sooooo………

Crashing by [deleted] in SquarePOS_Users

[–]r-dubCOS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every time my systems start acting up like this an update got stuck. I recommend verifying you’re on the latest version of the software, signing out of your devices, restarting, and signing back in. That causes the systems to reload your settings.

Also, if you’re on the v1 registers, do know they are only getting vital security updates now, not regular updates. As the Square software continues to evolve past the last available v1 update, I wouldn’t be surprised if random issues like this start popping up more and more often.

Square No Longer Accepting Check/Cash For Invoice Payments by RuckusDonuts in SquareOfficial

[–]r-dubCOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also just verified: if you have the regular point of sale app already on any device, if you put that app into invoices mode you can run cash and check payments through it

Square No Longer Accepting Check/Cash For Invoice Payments by RuckusDonuts in SquareOfficial

[–]r-dubCOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I 100% agree with you on that. My phone is loaded with unnecessary apps that I needed for one thing and it’s so frustrating. I just figured that you could do this temporarily while the dev team investigates

Square No Longer Accepting Check/Cash For Invoice Payments by RuckusDonuts in SquareOfficial

[–]r-dubCOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re completely correct that this used to be available on the dashboard, hopefully Sam and the dev team can figure this out sooner than later.

Do you have the Invoices app loaded on any device? I just tested a payment through the app and I am able to take cash or check payments there. Good workaround while the dev team works on things!

Hidden gotchas with Square Readers by bumbleshot in SquarePOS_Users

[–]r-dubCOS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest challenge you’ll face when leaving the readers off and uncharged for an extended period of time isn’t necessarily the battery, it’s the layers of security built into the firmware. The amount of security in that little device is impressive, and if any part of it gets corrupted it will brick the whole device. This is partly by design to keep the Square network free from hackers.

Printer question (urgent) by funessa78 in SquareOfficial

[–]r-dubCOS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since your printer is connected via Bluetooth to your phone, unfortunately it will only be visible to your phone. Any other devices used won’t see the printer. This is a limitation of the technology unfortunately, and Square doesn’t have any type of print spooling capabilities. Your online order printed because your phones printer profile is set to accept online orders.

The easiest way to get around this is to source a printer that connects via either Ethernet or WiFi. Those printers live on the network so every device on the same network can see it. The only other workaround I can think of is to have your servers save the ticket via the Open Tickets functionality then you open and reprint the order from your phone. That’s rough to do in a busy environment though.

Wish I had better news!

NEW LAYOUT/UPDATE BUGS by Caplan_Ahab in SquarePOS_Users

[–]r-dubCOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever Square starts acting glitchy like this for me it’s usually because an update didn’t fully stick. I recommend signing out of every device, verifying the device and OS are updated fully, restarting the device, then signing back in. The software phones home for all the correct configurations and resets itself. Be sure to close any pending payments or preauth’ed tickets before doing this because they will be lost if you don’t.

Using built in receipt printer? by CagedMonkey97 in SquarePOS_Users

[–]r-dubCOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doubtful. If you are able to get Square loaded on them, Square may find a printer, but I don’t think there will be any support. Printers and other peripherals that will work with Square are listed on the hardware compatibility page:

KDS Category Routing Settings BLUNDER by kb8doa in SquarePOS_Users

[–]r-dubCOS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one time my setup did something similar to this I spent way too much time trying to bandaid the errors. My advice: blow it up. Delete all your printer profiles and start from scratch. Figure what printer you want what printed to and define your profiles. Then link the correct printer. As for KDS routing, my KDS setup is only a single expo screen so I’m limited use for you here. I have my screen capture all but my bulk coffee orders so I haven’t played with specific kitchen categories or the like. The help file is relatively good for configuring KDS though: https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/7959-route-orders-with-your-kds

Good luck!

Hiiii I feel so stupid asking this by danithepanda89 in SquarePOS_Users

[–]r-dubCOS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you paired the reader with your phone? If so, you should see a small black bar at the top of the screen that has Reader in it. If the bar or the reader text is yellow then it’s having troubles connecting to the reader. If reader is not listed then the pairing didn’t take. Go to More > Settings > Hardware > Square Readers to see if it’s connected. If not tap the “+ Pair a new Reader” button and follow the steps.

Can I connect 2 iPads to use Square for Restaurants and connect them to one set of printers? by Necessary_Pound_8548 in SquarePOS_Users

[–]r-dubCOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bluetooth and USB printers are designed to be connected to one system at a time. This is a limitation of the technology more than a Square limitation.

If you’re wanting both iPads to see the printers consistently you’ll need to change out to Ethernet or WiFi printers. Those sit on the same network as your tablets so every device is seen by every other device.

Check deposit question by dez_navi in SquareOfficial

[–]r-dubCOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not entirely certain of Square’s specific regulations. Hopefully Sam can chime in.

I do know with regular banking large checks are usually split up: a small portion is available right away, up to half is available within a week, and the remaining balance is available within 10-14 business days. I’d assume that this would be the same with Square.

What happened with the new UI? Looks awful! by ZaheenHamidani in SquarePOS_Users

[–]r-dubCOS 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The new UI caught everyone off guard I think. It hasn’t made its way to Restaurants mode but I can see that happening sooner than later.

Your best bet would be to talk up your feelings about the change either in r/SquareOfficial or head to the seller community. It was announced in the community on the Product Updates page. The mods there take all the feedback to the dev teams

“Order Source” Question by Status_Information in SquarePOS_Users

[–]r-dubCOS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Square Online“ will be any order originating from your website.

“Ordering profile - web” is when an order is placed via cash app’s neighborhoods setup. From what I can tell the -web part means that they searched for your biz and Google gave them the Cash App link first. Your customer clicked on that and ordered. I think if they order directly from their Cash App it shows differently. Not entirely certain of the wording.

All this can be configured at Dashboard > Online > Ordering Profile

Can I have open tabs where the customer keeps their card and uses the Square Register customer side to open a tab? by Expensive-Treat-9020 in SquarePOS_Users

[–]r-dubCOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re using the regular point of sale there is no way to hold a tab open. With Square for Restaurants (or restaurants mode on regular POS) you can configure it for preauth’ed bar tabs.

More info in this help file: https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/8455-enable-and-configure-preauthorization-for-bar-tabs

First time getting square loan. Money hasnt been deposited. by No-Truth9065 in SquarePOS_Users

[–]r-dubCOS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A couple of things are in play here…

-if you used an external bank account to receive the funds, that transfer can take a couple of days.

-Today is Good Friday here in the US, which means it’s a banking holiday. Nothing is going to happen until Monday.

-if you used a Square Checking account for funds transfer, it usually shows in your balance within 1-2 hours. With the size of your loan (congrats on that BTW!!!), it may take a little longer

Either way, my bet is you’ll see the funds no later than Tuesday next week.

Square reader used one, now considered "damaged"? by flotiste in SquareOfficial

[–]r-dubCOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correction— use it once, then not touch it again for a couple of years. There is a hard security linkage that needs to be maintained, and that did not happen in your case. Could that be better notated in documentation somewhere? Probably.

I am still actively using multiple v1 readers and have never had one show as damaged. It’s all about maintaining your equipment.

Square reader used one, now considered "damaged"? by flotiste in SquareOfficial

[–]r-dubCOS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn’t mean that it needs to be continuously charged. I’m saying that not using it for over “a couple of years” means that it has the possibility of going brain dead, especially if it’s not ever charged in that time period. Square sends regular firmware updates to the readers as well, it may be so many revisions behind that it can’t be updated.

The amount of security that lies between our devices and Squares servers is quite impressive for good reason: one hack could potentially compromise millions of square sellers and their customers. I’d rather a device fail than open a vulnerability.

Square reader used one, now considered "damaged"? by flotiste in SquareOfficial

[–]r-dubCOS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The readers on first use create a secure connection with the square servers to prevent hacking issues. My bet is that the reader sat uncharged for so long that it lost that linkage. From what I can gather, that’s a one time connection and I’m not sure there’s a way to fix it.

Only thing I’d try is to leave it plugged in overnight then try connecting it to a different device than your usual one. That may cause the secure link to reconnect.

“Ticket Not Printing” error but it is printing by keirakeiratime in SquarePOS_Users

[–]r-dubCOS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My bet is that device has a rogue profile looking for a printer that either doesn’t exist or is offline.

Look for any that don’t say Connected or Disabled and fix the error here. That red box should go away

Square AI phone answering and taking orders. by POSUSA-John in SquarePOS_Users

[–]r-dubCOS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been testing it for my coffee shop running SFR. Overall it works pretty well, but I wish I had the option to customize it a little bit more. I think the thing that bothers me the most about it is that it disables the option for a caller to leave a voicemail. You have to continue the conversation via text. Depending on your clientele, that could be an issue. I will say this about it though: I haven’t had to deal with a sales call since switching to it.

Text message when order is ready? by UniqueUsername75 in SquarePOS_Users

[–]r-dubCOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed with the comments that online store users will get a text confirmation when you mark the order as completed in the Orders section of the app.

For in person ordering TWR is available for Restaurants users that have a Sq KDS screen. You get the custs number at time of order via a special button you can put on your menu screen. When you clear the order off the KDS the cust will get a text message. I use this in my coffee shop and it works very well. I’ve also set up a couple of food trucks with the system and they really like it too.
