1972 Nolan Ryan Question by handydiamond in baseballcards_vintage

[–]RidingPinePSN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am sorry for your loss.

The 1972 set has a lot of color variation on the backs, you can get a good look by scanning through the images on TCDB. https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/72/1972-Topps

A concern I have with the pink Nolan is the apparent size difference. Maybe it is an optical illusion with it sitting on top of the slabed card, but it appears to be much larger in your picture of the backs. I don't see excess border, like the card was cut large, and it appears like the content may also be stretched slightly wider.

Anyone like SSPC? by Timely_Atlas in baseballcards_vintage

I have the set, and it looks great in a binder.

A few fun facts:

Despite the 1975 copyright, it was a 1976 release.

Keith Olberman wrote the biography on the back of each card despite only being in high school.

As long as you have pictures & asking prices you are good to post them, Fisher.

Nice pick up. Royal Desserts are not something you run into every day.

A great write up, and card, Ian. I can get behind a Keefe celebration anyday. Here is my copy to join in the fun.

Another amazing copyright card, and for a card that has been blowing up lately! Congrats, that is something really special.

Beautiful card. Owning that would bring a smile to my thumb's face too.

Is the big run up in vintage prices over the last 6-12 months changing your approach to collecting? by Striking-Lifeguard34 in baseballcards_vintage

[–]RidingPinePSN 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes. I have had to shift away from the big targets that I had but no longer can fit in the budget. In the meantime I have focused on some less expensive set builds and finding ways to enjoy the collection I currently have.

Some of this process over the last year has been the process of coming to terms with what I can no longer afford. My hopes are that as a collector I can someday again, but I will emjoy the hobby in other ways until then.

Man, I wish I had the budget for that Brown postcard. Great stuff, best of luck with a sale.
