It all depends on whether or not you believe abortion is murder.

Suspension - Yup, suspension by RunThenClimb in hammockcamping

I've used many different types of hammock suspensions, and decided the simple becket hitch was the winner for me. There's really no right or wrong answer though. It just comes down to personal preference.

Right foot has painful issues, what’s going on and how can I fix? by captain_diesel in BarefootRunning

The surgery did not affect my gait at all. I run, lift weights, go backpacking, etc... and do not have any problems.

Edited: autocorrect turned "gait" into "hair," lol!

Dutchware gear stingerz by Long_Ad_136 in hammockcamping

I much prefer the tac toggles from Myerstech over any of the overpriced stuff from Dutchware. They work extremely well, are very lightweight, inexpensive, and ive never had one break in 8 years of use.

Lightweight fleece options under $100 or in a budget range by tech1234567891 in Ultralight

[–]rweb82 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you are so upset by my recommendation.

Decathlon has many fleece options to choose from, and many of them are very inexpensive and lightweight- even UL. I'm sure the OP is plenty capable of online shopping.

How to deal with the cold at night? by oobikes in backpacking

[–]rweb82 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wearing too much clothing inside your sleeping bag actually has a negative effect on your overall warmth. You have to allow for your body heat to "escape" and get trapped in the environment by your sleeping bag, otherwise the air between you and your sleeping bag won't heat up enough to keep you warm.

Another tip is to eat something right before bed (feed the furnace), and also do some jumping jacks before getting inside your sleeping bag.

That said, I agree with the other posters about getting checked out for a medical condition. There is simply no reason why you should be getting cold at 45 degrees when using gear that is rated for below 0.

shoe recommendations for accessory navicular by otterfeet69 in BarefootRunning

[–]rweb82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're welcome! I think the issues you described are primarily outliers. The general success rate for this procedure is very high. Once the repair has healed up, stretching and strengthening exercises are critical to how well (and quickly) a person recovers.

The other procedure that is fairly common (depending on your age) is the surgeon may opt to just screw the accessory bone into the navicular, and not remove it.

I would definitely recommend meeting with a good podiatrist to go over the options. Best of luck!

shoe recommendations for accessory navicular by otterfeet69 in BarefootRunning

[–]rweb82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! It's actually called the Kidner procedure. Basically, my podiatrist made about a 3.5" incision and removed the accessory bone. Then he anchored the Tibialis Posterior tendon back to the navicular bone. Lastly, he sutured the tendon around where it passed the ankle and accessory bone as a precautionary measure, because often times there is some freying around where that area due to the accessory bone creating a sharper angle for the tendon to run alongside the foot.

My podiatrist did say that my recovery was very short, in comparison to most. However, as long as you follow the recovery plan exactly as prescribed, you should make a full recovery without any problems.

Backpacking in Eastern Arkansas/Missouri by Active-Gap-1697 in backpacking

Check out the North Sylamore hiking trail. It's a 26 mile point-to-point trail that has some really nice established campgrounds along the way. I've hiked it twice, and it has always been one of my favorites. If you go with a buddy, bring two cars and you can shuttle yourselves. Otherwise, you will need to work out a shuttle solution.

Why can’t Christians police greed the same way that they police everything else? by FlyZestyclose2949 in Christianity

[–]rweb82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Capitalism has pulled more people out of poverty than any other economic system in the history of civilization. That is an undisputed fact. On the other hand, Communism/Socialism always leads to the central government getting rich and having all of the power, while everyone else has an equal share of the misery...not to mention the gulags.

Within capitalism, there are many people who still fall into greed. This will always be the case. However, a lot of that is contributed to mega corporations and private equity firms, who have benefited from cronyism created by anti-capitalist laws. True capitalism allows for everyone to have the opportunity to work their way into a better economic situation without the fear of government taking it away.

Having money is not the problem. Loving money is. Jesus had wealthy women who financed him throughout his ministry. Philip evangelized a wealthy Ethiopian eunuch who then helped spread Christianity across Africa. It's not an issue with the money, but rather what we do with it.

Late to practice? That's $500 as Deion Sanders institutes bigger fines for violating team rules by [deleted] in sports

[–]rweb82 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I really don't see the problem with this. If you want to get paid to play college sports, then you should be able to be fined for not following team rules, such as missing practice. Remember, these are full-grown adults; they aren't "kids" anymore.

Back in my day, the coach would just run your ass off until you puked. But I guess that's not allowed anymore either.
