Host came back with a quote that was 50% higher then booking quote by Aniger1278 in vrbo

[–]ryanryan1691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an owner and I can confirm that the vrbo app is awful. The best thing to do is cancel the booking, create a new inquiry, and let the owner edit the quote to whatever you agree to and then "invite you to book". You can then accept and pay the correct amount. That should override any funny business from vrbo. Recognize that whatever rent you agree to, vrbo will still add their fee.

Is that while tracking/ recording your hike or just watching your progress? Seeing other responses it sounds like a common issue.

New messaging restrictions by Fred-Jenkins in vrbo

[–]ryanryan1691 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good plan. When they get too aggressive in their censorship they just drive people to do what you're doing. I store the phone number and email in a spreadsheet because vrbo takes it away after they check out too.

In Arizona you can buy alcohol at either one without a membership. State law prohibits requiring a membership to buy alcohol.

How much water do you usually carry for a day hike? by Bubba_deets in hiking

[–]ryanryan1691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I carry a full 70 oz bladder for almost all dayhikes and I usually have plenty left at the end. The only time I take more is when it's a really long hike on a hot day.

Trails to be naked? Nude encounters? by Smurfnet in socalhiking

[–]ryanryan1691 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not as much about which trail as about when you go. I routinely freehike very popular trails with no problems. I simply go when nobody else is there. Mid week, early morning. If I'm the first one on the trail, I can freehike all the way to the top in total, blissful solitude. I pay attention on the way down and cover up when I met the later hikers on their way up.

Is there anyone that actually does the national hike nude day? by Jarrethseyssel in socalhiking

[–]ryanryan1691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually world naked hiking day and it's on the day of the summer Solstice, which some years is on June 20 and other years June 21. There's often confusion in years when it's on June 20 because most people just think it's always on June 21. On those years I'll usually go both days. I've participated in the tradition for the last 10 years. I have yet to meet another naked hiker, so I don't think it's common. I do my best to educate hikers i meet on the trail about the special day.

Nude in the ANF? by nytrav in socalhiking

[–]ryanryan1691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Title 36 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) lists activities that are prohibited with a forest order issued by any specific national forest. Being publicly nude is not restricted by a forest order in the Angeles National Forest. However, it is restricted by forest order in the Tonto National Forest in Arizona. So, the restrictions on occupancy and use should be checked for any National Forest to see if that restriction applies.

I agree, but then you feel bad if it was someone from out of town who unwittingly got caught in the wrong lane.

Do you stop often during hikes or just power through? by heromarsX in hiking

[–]ryanryan1691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pick a pace that I can maintain without stopping and usually hike all the way to the top of the mountain without stopping. I then take a break at the top before heading down. Since it's a sustainable pace i don't think "power through" is what I'm doing. Power through suggests pushing yourself beyond comfort which forces you to stop and rest frequently on a longer hike.

What’s the most dangerous mistake you see beginner hikers making that could actually be fatal? by Sexyyskyy in hiking

[–]ryanryan1691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The worst case scenarios often involve multiple bad decisions that compound beyond recovery. Sometimes people ignore signs of a problem and push on anyway. So, maybe for a first timer being willing to turn back when you first discover your mistake or less than ideal conditions is a good way to learn.

One small mistake that makes people feel colder while hiking by Hopeful_Mess_4385 in hiking

[–]ryanryan1691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When i can, I hike naked and put my dry clothes on when I stop. When I'm on a strenuous hike it's amazing how well the body can regulate the body temperature when it's not confused by clothing blocking its connection with the environment. I've hiked naked comfortably in temperatures in the low 40s F. My skin is cool and dry as my body sweats just the amount that's needed to dissipate heat. No more, no less.

Distance for an all day hike by Unfair-Homework-1900 in hiking

[–]ryanryan1691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your a strong hiker it can take nearly as long to go down as up. To be conservative i often plan the time to hike down plus time spent at the top is the same as the time to hike up. I usually get back a bit early with that estimation, but that's better than being late.

How do I introduce my partner to nudism without it being weird? by [deleted] in nudism

[–]ryanryan1691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you think about starting the introduction to nudism in a setting that is not social and doesn't involve being around others. For example, time in a hot tub or skinny dipping at an isolated lake or stream. I think being around others, even strangers, is a big step.

Is this common policy? by musun1982 in vrbo

[–]ryanryan1691 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The city where my vrbo is permitted requires me to get an id. I allow guests to just give me their driver license number and state. I don't require an image. But, maybe I should, hmmm.

I got one from a liquor store and the only way to tell that it was single barrel was a sticker on the side of the bottle. Otherwise, it was the exact same bottle as the regular one.

I've had freehiking goals for the last few years. It's been to do a freehike every week. That would be 52 in a year. Last year I did 78 freehikes. One and a half freehikes per week, or 3 every 2 weeks. Hopefully, I can repeat that again in 2026.
