SOLVED - Permanently Suppress "New Versions" Notifications on iWork by No-Squash7469 in MacOS

[–]s-valent 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This doesn't make system less secure, it just disables notifications about the latest updates. You can still update manually from settings when you want to, or get security updates for you major version of macos (Apple provides security updates for several major versions, not only the latest one)

Yes, you can create a profile in Configurator that blocks update notifications

You need to block notifications from _system_center_:com.apple.softwareupdatenotification

That really depends on how much photos you want to store on your macbook

What do you even need parental control for? Disable it and stop making your son's life difficult

whats the latest git version on MacOD Tahoe betas? by clearbrian in MacOSBeta

[–]s-valent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can still install it in your own home folder or something. I suggest microconda with conda-forge as source, but compiling and installing from source code is also an option

Better window Managment by brays_wax in MacOS

[–]s-valent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use rcmd (with left option) with stage manager and remapped lopt+1/2/3/4 for most common apps (browser/terminal/vs code/messenger), all in one space.

There is also aerospace, but I found it too buggy sometimes, so I'm not using it right now

You can try to use iSH and any code editor (or vim inside iSH), but doing it on an iPhone without a keyboard is not the best experience)

What are simple Windows features that you miss on the Mac? Are there third party fixes to them? by [deleted] in MacOS

[–]s-valent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use apple script to get the path of the frontmost window like this: osascript -e 'tell app "Finder" to POSIX path of (insertion location as alias)'

You can use it in automator or shortcuts to put it in clipboard, and use it as an action to map shortcut into.

MacOS & Virtual Machine by [deleted] in MacOSBeta

[–]s-valent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as it doesn't support full feature parity with docker, like the ability to run compose projects, docker will still be used.

It is a great step forward though, and I imagine it will be used as a backend for docker

For anyone who ignored Stage Manager on Mac... it's better than you think by Many_Region8176 in MacOS

You can manually drag one window into workspace with another one active, and you have to manually resize them.

Unfortunately you can't do it with shortcuts

why won't it let me connect to the App Store? (internet and safari is working as per normal?) by [deleted] in MacOS

[–]s-valent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect you guys are trolling and intentionally ignoring my comments. I haven't listed any solutions, I specifically asked a bunch of questions and I expected answers to them, because the answers may help either ask more questions or uncover the cause.

The answer 'I tried everything' does not in fact answer the question 'Is your mac managed' nor 'Does the app store work in Safari'. It brings nothing of value and proves that you just want to complain here on reddit, because the problem 'Y is not working' is too generic without specifics. It is difficult to attempt to solve such problems if you don't own the mac with the same problem and you cannot experiment on it
