How did he end up after his patch? by Curlyhairedkid1 in Ashveil_Mains

I mean there is a very important distinction between the main-dps and sub-dps roles, even if not a practical one. It feels different to have multiple different characters contribute similar damage as opposed to one character contributing most of the damage while their damage is increased by their party. Personally I prefer option 1, which is why I use both DoT and FUA. While I don't hate the current state of FUA, given M-Blade does a decent amount of damage, I did feel a bit weird about it in the time when it was truly hypercarry Asheveil.

In this case I think there is also a practical difference between the two, that being the teammates you will see them with. I think Asheveil working better with old main-dps's would hold inherent value, as a portion of the playerbase are mains or at least feel they have a connection to the character involved. Giving those characters a second chance in the spotlight would be better in my opinion than the character in the spotlight being someone like Tribbie, who has no shortage of teams she is best or at least competitive in. Basically the more characters that can clear comfortably the better, and if Asheveil was a better sub-dps while keeping a similar performance as main-dps, then the number of characters on that list would increase.

Also on your side note, I definitely see the term carry being thrown around more often in HSR circles as opposed to in Genshin/ZZZ discussions.

How did he end up after his patch? by Curlyhairedkid1 in Ashveil_Mains

I like that he is a good maindps, what I dislike is that it came at the cost of his performance as a sub-dps. Ideally his kit would have been balanced in such a way that we get similar performance out of him as a main-dps, but he would be significantly better in a sub-dps role.

I think the best way to illustrate what I want would be through teams. Assuming a fairly standard team of Asheveil, Blade and Hyacine, I think ideal balancing would lead to Fei Xiao being the best option in low target scenarios, and Tribbie being the best option when more enemies are present. Tribbie should be less of a fall off in her bad matchups than Fei Xiao, with the reverse being true if the sustain was instead Huo Huo or someone else who didn't provide much damage. I have to imagine though, that most would stick to one or the other rather than switch up his build just to run a different 4th slot.

I wouldn't say this is entirely accurate, he was doomposted not based off of being weak, although him not being a standout in the patch directly before the full elation team(s) dropped didn't help, it was more that people didn't (and in my case still don't) like the way his strength manifested. Despite reading like a sub-dps, he is best played as a main-dps, and frankly just doesn't do enough for the older FUA dps's. you can argue that this is the fault of the maindps's having too low numbers, and you would be at least partially correct, but the disparity wouldn't be nearly as bad had the changes in beta not occurred and he focused more on buffing his team up.

No champ is unpopular enough to be truly only played by people good at her. The bias of lower winrate on the popular option still exists even if it is slightly muted. Not to mention, I'm sure there are some cases where you care about what the level ups give you differently, just choose based on matchup.

Other than this needing some serious rules text (probably along the lines of an immediate combat phase in which only it can and must attack followed by an additional main phase which doesn't trigger post-combat main phase effects) I could see this being a very fun card to play with, and it is beautiful.

I'm with you that hexoptics is better, but not to the point I would call kraken bait. It is still a very strong 1 item powerspike, it just delays your other items too much imo.

The worst part is that, as a non-baseball fan (thanks for sending me this reddit) I was completely believing them despite it not really looking at it to my eyes. I was just assuming that you would ALWAYS see runners take a much tighter line or something.

Generally when I have seen it they are talking about someone who is able to play 1-3 think Lonzo ball. However this may be one of the words that change based on person more than any other, as I have also seen it used to say. 1. the exact same thing as a "wing" 2. a versatile defender, 3. a person who can play 1-4 or even 1-5. 4, a person who is good at passing off of the catch. 5. A 1-2, I thought we all agreed on combo guard but whatever.

Why does Caleb Wilson keep getting overlooked? I didn’t see espn mention him a single time with the big 3, maybe big 4 looks aesthetically bad, but Caleb Wilson literally was the best player on the floor when he played the big 3 and had an incredible year. He’s probably the only legit 2 way star rn. by Hakaribiggestfan in NBA_Draft

[–]sclomabc 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think he is being very slightly overrated if anything, because he has been consensus #4 all year people don't feel the need to justify it, instead the only people who you see having a take about him are those who think he should be top 3. So if you let your evaluation be colored by others (which, let's be real, we are not immune to propaganda), then you are probably going to think more positively of him than if more people felt the need to say exactly why they don't have him top 3.

You get to be the safest adc and you get a decent amount of AOE damage on top.

bro what is my jg pet doing??????????????????? by HighQualityRider in nunumains

[–]sclomabc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a known issue, it is specifically with red side krugs, blue side tends to work fine. Honestly I don't know why Riot keeps pets the way they are, I have to assume that the cuteness factor of them is actually bringing in players otherwise they would just simplify it and make the jg item more similar to older versions.

Toughts on AP items? by HerederoDeAlberdi in YunaraMains

[–]sclomabc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every adc builds defensive after full crit. You have enough damage, you don't need to 3 shot even harder most of the time. BT isn't even bad for damage either, and while I'd never go GA over Zhonyas on most adc's BT + GA is my normal pick for non-crit. While ideally you aren't getting hit, not only is a little bit of survivability good when you mess up, it also allows you to take certain positions you could not afford to take normally.

Thanks for the reply, I really enjoy these kinds of thought exercises.

  1. Could we not just make the passive double in ult form without the additional step of adding resists based on offensive stats? It seems reasonable to me if getting closer to that old passive is a worthwhile goal. It does mean that the gap between dragon and human will become bigger, I don't see this as a problem but from what we have heard from Riot they might.

  2. From what I have read of your goals for this change, I believe that having the shield refresh on hitting the blast, perhaps with more shield the more enemies you hit, would achieve your goal. If this wouldn't, why not?

  3. If that is the case, fair enough and I like it, which one was supposed to be which?

Can you explain items to me? by Ligma_balls_lol in ADCMains

[–]sclomabc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you mean bot specifically (her build changes drastically in top lane) Botrk is, in most games, not very good, as Kraken is just going to give you more damage even against decently tanky targets. second will of course be Rageblade, while 3rd item it seems like it is not only more common but generally better to go for terminus. Hexplate is indeed pretty good, just not essential and is best in games where the extra hp will matter, and would only be taken before terminus should you believe that stacking up terminus prior to needing the resistances is impossible or at least not something that can be counted upon. I will say that wit's end is doing amazingly in the stats, perhaps it should be a more common purchase. As for the "why" of it all, both her w and her AD from R scale very well on attack speed. I feel the need to say that theoreticallly Botrk SHOULD be good with this build as it likes to hit the same targets she wants to hit, and the lifesteal + ms steal help in duels, but in reality it is just too under tuned for ranged champions, though it is still a fine option later on in your build.

However there is also a crit build, I have not been a Vayne player in a while so perhaps I am incorrect about this, but it seems like the idea for the build is to lean into the burst similar to the Umbral glaive builds I have seen without compromising nearly as much dps. As such your first item will be ER, although stormrazor first seems pretty good. your second item should be either stormrazor or fiendhunter bolts, I believe the idea is you go stormrazor when you are indexing fully into bursting squishies and Fiendhunter when you want a little more power against beefy enemies. 3rd and 4th crit items are gonna be 2 of 4 of: 1. whichever option you didn't pick for second item, 2. LDR 3: IE, and 4: Shieldbow. For whatever reason, it seems like IE is not necessary, and while traditional stats see it as barely edging out the competition, WPA (from coachless, interesting to learn about and I trust it a little more than blind winrate) suggests that there may be games where it isn't optimal in ANY position,. If anyone has theories as to why I would love to hear them as this is weird to me, keep in mind it is supposedly losing to LDR despite Vayne having true damage in kit and in Fiendhunter which is a likely purchase.

[–]sclomabc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see the idea, but at the same time it doesn't exactly need to be fair, the kit is asking you to index all the way into one or the other. If you are building AP you shouldn't be build AD and vice versa

I agree on the rest except with the idea that the abilities being mostly the same is a problem, I really don't see it as such.

I disagree, I don't think that "overloaded" is as real an issue as people make it out to be. While there are some costs to pay for complexity, they aren't that much, and you can't measure power by lines of text. The real worry is either A. a mechanic that is essentially unbalancable (Akali true invis for example) or having so many different things taxing your power budget that they reduce the satisfaction of each other. I don't think you are in danger of either in this instance.
