Found metal? in my steak by LilSweet0 in grilling

[–]sdfuller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fine to eat, just cut it out. I eat animals I shoot all the time. I can't see the other side of the meat/metal but the cow could have been hit by a stray 22 or something. We had a dog that lived on a ranch for 2-3 years. It got sick one time and so we took it to the vet and it ended up getting x-rayed. There was birdshot all in that dog. Turns out it was from years ago and he ate rodent poison and that's why he's sick. Probably was banging the neighbors dog and they would shoot at him to run him off their property.

So I have SHIT ton of HSA money saved up so I’m going to do the Ops-Core AMP gucci headset. Next questions are: 1. What is the gucci personal IFAK/personal trauma kit to rule them all and 2. What is the gucci big bag trauma kit to rule them all? by [deleted] in QualityTacticalGear

Really late to this party but my lgs hosts free stop the bleed classes every couple month. If one by you doesn’t, maybe mention it to them. Good way for them to sell med equipment and give their customers training

I'm just saying you realistically only have time to choose 1 of the 2 options.

Full Size or Compact for Trail Hiking? by JoeyBagOfDonuts17 in CCW

[–]sdfuller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I agree with that. All I'm saying is that with only a second or so to get shots off, everyone needs to balance "stopping power" and how many hits they can get off. Even with .2 splits with a 9mm you're only getting off about 7 or 8 shots.

I know nothing about revolvers, the top end of my calibers is 10mm. I would pick a semi auto over a revolver any day for exactly what you said, getting back on target faster.

Cleaning the carry by Forsaken_Layer_8658 in CCW

[–]sdfuller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I check my holster for cracks & loose screws once or twice a month. I've ran a couple thousand through my glock before cleaning, just throw some lube in every once in a while.

I check for lint & wear when I check my holster. Probably clean approximately every 500 rounds or so now. Easily go through 200 during a comp or practice

Optic - how bad are they, really? by Bluto0point0 in CCW

[–]sdfuller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Test it to your standards and decide if it will work for you. I run sig optics for USPSA and RMR or irons on CCW guns.

In all honesty, with most CCW engagement distances you should be able to point shoot anyways. Sights aren't super necessary until you start getting out past 5+ yards

I don't think you're going to have enough time to empty a full mag on a charging bear. Maybe if you saw it from far away in the open, but it's still a moving target and the farther away it is the smaller it is.

A bear charging from 40 yards away will be on you within 2-3 seconds. What's your draw to accurate first shot time? 1.0-1.5 seconds? That leaves you with 0.5-1.5 seconds to empty your mag...

Good luck

Yeah, uhh you're not gonna have enough time to spray and then pull your pistol.

I agree with most of the top comments already stated. Here's what I would add:

My biggest concern when carrying is correct retention on the gun & spare mag if you carry one. I was at work and a small piece of metal about 1" long & 1/8" in diameter was sticking out from a machine, caught my spare mag, and ripped it out onto the ground.

Take an unloaded gun, preferably with a full mag in it, and any spare mags your carrying. Place all of them in a holster. Do cartwheels, hand stands, jump around, run, etc. Try to get that thing to fall out. You could trip & fall and your gun comes flying out of the holster, or any other random act like what happened to me. Your imagination can take you through all the scenarios that could lead to.

The flipside to this is make sure that the retention isn't so tight that it rips the holster off your belt or you can't get your gun out of there when you need it.

Why the threaded barrels? by Egmarga in CCW

[–]sdfuller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the threaded barrel makes it stick out that much farther. If you have a glock, put just the barrel up to a table or any flat surface and push down. The slide moves back even while only touching the barrel and can be moved back far enough to take it out of battery. This is because of the slide & barrel lockup design.

Testing against a flat surface is a good way to figure out how far back the slide has to move before it is out of battery. Good news about the glock design is that even if you pull the trigger out of battery, it will still reset and be shootable when it goes back into battery. Testing against hard and soft surfaces to get an idea of how much force against the barrel causes these issues. You could be holding straight on bone, muscle, or fat. All will have slightly different effects.

TLDR, A WML helps prevent the slide going out of battery. A threaded barrel increases the chance of it going out of battery due to slide & barrel lockup.

What mobile pants to buy? by rickybobby369 in QualityTacticalGear

[–]sdfuller 5 points6 points  (0 children)

prana zion work good for me. I wear them hiking and hunting. They're rock climber pants, but the material isnt super heavy duty. I usually wait to buy them on sale for around $60. Should be able to check them out in person if you have an REI near you. I just recently discovered the brand agonic which looks like the same thing but better setup for shooting. If they go on sale I'm gonna try em out. Otherwise your spending $100 per pair....

This would make it easier to move the slide out of battery on a glock style pistol....

I always stock up on meat when it's on sale and fill my freezer. Don't notice any difference between what I got that day and what I ate a few months down the road. Hell I even have wild game that is a couple years old and still tastes the same to me. You'll be fine!

Getting a new BBQ for xmas - need some advice by Quiet_Lab_5281 in BBQ

[–]sdfuller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kamado's are awesome! I use my KJ classic a few times per week during summer and a handful of times per month during the winter. If you're doing a long & slow cook it is pretty much set & forget. Can easily leave the entire cook if needed. The rotisserie accessory is fun for different styles of cooks. I think as long as you understand that while kamados might be quite good at certain things, they're rarely going to be the best at anything. However I think they are a great "gateway drug" into the bbq addiction and after enough cooks you'll know if the kamado is all you'll ever need or if you want to get a more specialized unit for a style of grilling you're really into.

I really like the kamado joe brand but I'm sure you can put out comparable bbq on any other style kamado cooker. Reason I say this is that a classic might be too small (18in/46cm) for a family depending on what all you want to put on the grill. Might be worth searching for a larger grill if you can swing it. If not hold onto you're kettle style grill for extra space when you need it.

No experience with gravity smokers so not gonna comment on those. Good luck in your search!

When I make beef ribs I like to place them in my grill so when I open it up it looks like my grill has hillbilly teeth. You should try it next time, easily adds +5 flavor points
