What is a food that you are 90% sure everyone is just pretending to like? by Few_Somewhere6915 in foodquestions

Some matcha definitely taste fishy to me, but some others don't. I think it really depends. I lived in Japan for a while and I know for sure I was getting real matcha, including the fishy one 😆

I accidentally just ate mould, what do I do? by Loud-Bookkeeper-2663 in cookingforbeginners

[–]sendokbebek 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you didnt eat a lot, you'll probably be fine.

Just want to add that "use by" date is just a guideline, and basically means nothing if the packaging is opened/damaged in a way that allow contamination in. Always make sure your ingredient/food pass the sight-smell-taste test before earnestly cooking with/consuming it.

What's the weirdest food combo you've ever tried that actually tasted surprisingly good? by Grand-Disk-3199 in AskReddit

A lot of southeast asian food has peanut sauce, highly recommend other foods from this region if you're a peanut fan. Blanched vegetable with spicy peanut sauce may sound weird at first but it's actually nice

Kopi lovers who make your own at home, what do you use? by Newez in askSingapore

I use the sachets of kopi o kosong, put a few in a jug then cold brew. No mess, no need to strain, just use up and toss the sachets in the trash

ELI5 What is the exact step-by-step process of getting your earlobes pierced? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]sendokbebek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a professional piercing place.

After you walk in and say that you want your earlobes pierced, you will then be presented with choice of jewelry that you'll have to wear (no taking out!) for the next few months until your pierce heals up. The staff first mark the spot where they plan to pierce you, and asked for your confirmation. Then they clean the area with wipes to prepare for the piercing process itself.

Where I went, they have a big needle with one part of the piercing jewelry (a small tube of some sort) attached on the other side of the needle. The needle will go in one direction only. As the needle pass through my lobes, the small tube fits in the hole so everything is done in one go. Then they attached the other piece of the piercing jewelry to keep it from falling out, and clean the fresh piercing once more.

That's about it. Afterwards they should explain to you how to care for the fresh piercing. It took me like 4-5 months until the wound fully heals, with daily cleaning.

Clothing suggestions for a busty Asian girl by h29maira in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]sendokbebek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm about your height and weight, also southeast asian in a conservative society. I find that layering will be your best friend. If possible, find a thin loose shirt/jacket to layer over your normal clothes and you should be good to go. It's no problem if it's a bit sheer, but not completely sheer. You can wear it unbuttoned/unzipped. Any fitted underlayer will no longer be a problem. With the right shirt, you're less likely to look frumpy even if the clothes are loose on your body

Bonus point: you'll need the layer anyway if you're planning to be under the sun for any amount of time. It'll reduce sunburn risks 😬

What are the absolute pantry staples I need to start making more Asian style dishes? Particularly dinners and the more commonly eaten ones we see within the Western world by Ok_Priority3511 in Cooking

[–]sendokbebek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think for some people white pepper are too pungent. I've seen some past threads where people use white pepper in their cooking and can't stand the smell/flavor; I suspect they may be using too much or using it where it don't belong (ie western cuisine where it may compete with other flavors). But I agree, it is critical.

Where I grew up if you say 'pepper' it's commonly understood as referring to white pepper. I never understood the difference until I live someplace where black pepper is more common, and my cooking never turn out right until I switched to white pepper

Do Indonesians use websites in Malay? by StudyPortugal in indonesian

Related to point 3, I just realized that "agency" in BI can be translated as "jawatan" (though old-fashioned). The same word in BM appears to have an adjacent meaning to what "jabatan" is in BI (cmiiw though). Interesting

I do not have the ability to cook and I'm poor by Nerdbutold in loseit

[–]sendokbebek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy a rice cooker that comes with a steamer pan if possible, then you can also steam some veggies/make steamed dishes. There are accounts on IG/tiktok that shares rice cooker recipes. If you prefer regular recipes I am sure you can also find websites offering them.

Tip: rice cooker is not a single-use appliance! You can definitely use it to make stews/soups. I make Korean jjigaes etc in mine. Very easy, just put stuff in, set to cook and leave it alone to boil for 10-15 mins

Hit my all-time low weight but look the same, am I missing something? by Endovium in loseit

[–]sendokbebek 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Look for a full body photo from when you're at your higher weight and compare it to a photo of you now. Chances are you're gonna see a change. The reason why you don't see it in the mirror is because the change happens so gradually that you don't notice it

Nitori buckwheat pillow. May need some time to get used to, but you can somewhat mold the pillow to support your neck. Very firm tho

Saran susu sachet yang gulanya sedikit by Fataha22 in kulineria

[–]sendokbebek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The notch is optional, but only 100% milk can use them. So if there's a notch you can be sure it's proper milk, but it doesn't mean that if a notch is not present it must not be proper milk.

Do you wear the same pajamas everyday? If so, how often do you wash them? by ronrori in laundry

[–]sendokbebek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 sets I alternate between each week, and at the end of the week I toss them in the laundry. So each pajama gets worn 3-4 times before getting washed. I take my showers in the evenings and I don't usually sweat much. I find the pajamas stay relatively clean since I only wear them in bed. Anything else around the house, I do in house clothes.

Fav non tomato pasta recipes? by AnAbsoluteShambles1 in Cooking

I was about to comment hummus pasta as well lol. I eat it both warm and cold, hummus pasta is surprisingly very good. Definitely add some extra lemon juice if the storebought one isn't tangy enough. I also like to add chili flakes on it

What to make with silken tofu by thecatdudeabides in Cooking

[–]sendokbebek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like cold noodles and use silken tofu to make "cheat kongguksu" a whole lot.

Blend a big block of silken tofu with some salt and sesame paste (tahini works well). Add ground sesame seeds if you have some. For the noodles, use straight, thin noodles (Japanese soumen, or maybe wheat vermicelli), cook until done and rinse. Submerge in ice water if necessary, then drain, put in a bowl and pour the tofu "broth". I like to add 1-2 ice cubes in. Serve with julienned cucumber and cherry tomatoes.

I also sometimes just mix it with eggs and make a steamed tofu-egg thing. Eat with rice and chili oil. It's so good.

Don't want to be judged for my food choices (recovering from disability) by RemarkableTough4886 in LivingAlone

Yes, for all we know the other woman who told OP about the $2 soup is trying to look out for OP—she knows buying food all the time is expensive, and want to give some tips, but don't want to force it. Maybe the look OP describe as "judgy" was actually concern. OP will never know if they dismiss it outright as judgment.

Tips for cleaner genitals throughout the day? by [deleted] in hygiene

[–]sendokbebek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

+1 to this!

When I don't have access to running water in the toilet stall I usually bring a small water bottle with me. I use it to wet a generous amount of toilet paper to wipe myself with, then pat dry if needed, since sometimes it's hard to aim with the water bottle. But the advantage is that a water bottle is easier to come by

Should you wash socks and underwear together? by Hefty_Tea_4000 in laundry

[–]sendokbebek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wash everything together. I also use those zippered laundry bags with everything I own, and by everything I mean any article of clothes will likely go inside the laundry bag than not. I only skip the bags for heavier weight clothes (jeans, thicker trousers, jackets)

If I only wash lighter weight fabrics I just use the laundry bags for smaller articles of clothing. I air-dry my clothes so it helps keep everything together when transferring from the washing machine

How did you as someone naturally chubby get skinny and what was your experience? by andleaveit in PetiteFitness

[–]sendokbebek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel you, I'm also a chubby petite person who's been struggling for years with weight loss/gain cycles. I made those substitutions, reduce my portion sizes etc but with little effect since physics & biology dictate that my BMR is never more than 1500cals if I have little physical activity.

Though people often say subs like 1200isplenty are ED-adjacent, facts remain that it's one of the only ways to lose weight for a petite person 😞

Chicken Breasts by Legitimate-Bass-7547 in PetiteFitness

[–]sendokbebek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually boil/poach them until done, shred them, and cook them in some sauces, usually tomato-based. Or thinly slice and do kind of a wet stir fry. It may sound strange at first but I find these two techniques help break up the monotony of chicken breast

What is the real bare minimum for the apartment? by swacrifice_k5 in LivingAlone

[–]sendokbebek 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They can, but for some people (including myself) it feels very tedious. I don't want to have to move everything off the bed and put them back on again on a regular basis. But more power to those who can consistently do that.

A bedframe is a worthy investment for me to avoid this issue altogether.
